A Decline Cause Analysis of Korean Tourist Areas Depending on Stage in the Life Cycle

Since Taejongdae Resort Park’s designation as the first tourist area in 1969, a total of 230 domestic tourist areas have been designated, constructed, and operated thus far. Forty-seven years after the first tourist area designation, 38.8% of domestic tourist areas are now in a stage of stagnation/decline. As these declining domestic tourist areas only play their role as normal tourist areas during peak season, this study examined the causes of decline in tourist areas in general and of each tourist area in particular, so that the analysis could be used as basic data for the regeneration/revitalization of tourist areas. In order to understand the causes of decline, an index of cause of decline in tourist areas was drawn up. Data were collected based on this index, with tourist areas in the stagnation/decline stage as the target, which was drawn from previous research. Based on the results, factor analysis was conducted on both decline cause and discriminant analysis to understand the causes of decline in each tourist area. The results demonstrate that the diverse uses for tourists, sustainability, and preservation of tourism resources have a huge influence as internal factors, while the external capital investment and competitiveness of tourism resources have a huge influence as external factors. As this study only analyzed the quantitative index in accordance with physical characteristics, it is necessary to conduct additional research based on qualitative indices. In this case, this study could be used as basic data. This study is expected to be applied as basic research to seek solutions for each cause of stagnation/ decline in tourist areas, and also to establish measures to regenerate/revitalize those areas.
Video identification based on common features in a scene segmented by CNN

Video fingerprinting is an important issue in the copyright protection field as digital environment enables the copyright infringement to get easier and easier. Copyright owners want to identify contents on the net and to block infringed contents. In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm to identify video contents even if we only have a video frame. The algorithm divides a video content into scenes using deep learning network and then extracts common feature from a scene. We use deep learning with convolution neural network for video scene segmentation. It can be more precise than traditional method that use histogram. The feature database contains only a set of common features per a scene. The proposed algorithm can reduce the size of the database by a factor of a hundred, which can reduce the database comparison time by a factor of a few.

The recent trend of local tourism is moving toward the discovery of hidden resources, breaking from the concept of utilizing the existing resources, and of creating various stories based upon discovered resources. Accordingly, this research is about establishing master plans for a tourist destination named Jeongeupsa, a ballad made during Baekje Kingdom, which is a literary resource representing Jeongeup-si. These plans will be established by applying a research process of spatial storytelling. This research contains theoretical consideration through advanced research on spatial storytelling and Jeongeupsa. The spatial storytelling research process that is suggested shall include an analysis of the context of texts, understanding of sense of place, application of a theme and a story, construction of a space, and sharing of a story. The space composition is as follows: First, district of Jeongeupsa based on the story resources of Jeongeupsa, a ballad made during Baekje Kingdom; second, Beakje Jeongchonhyun based on the story resources of the Keunsaeam wells; finally, it was composed of Jeonghae village district through story resources of Jeonghae village. The spatial storytelling system has applied while establishing master plans for the tourist destination in order to turn a tourist destination into a space where visitors can easily be aware of various story resources that a space has and stories and visitors can interact and communicate each other, breaking from the old unified planning system. The purpose of this research is to find a new method of tourist spot planning. I hope the method suggested by this research can be of help to a process of realizing various tourism resources.
Impact of White Matter Lesions on Depression in the Patients with Alzheimer’s Disease

Objective-Comorbid depression is common in patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). An increase in white matter lesions (WMLs) has been associated with depression in both elderly individuals with normal cognition and patients with Alzheimer’s disease. We investigated whether the severity and location of WMLs influence the association between WMLs and comorbid depression in AD. Methods-We enrolled 93 AD patients from Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. We administered both the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Inventory (MINI) and the Korean version of the Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer’s Disease Assessment Packet (CERAD-K) clinical and neuropsychological battery. Subjects also underwent brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We diagnosed AD according to the criteria of the National Institute of Neurological and Communicative Disorders and Stroke and the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association. We diagnosed depressive disorders according to the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria, and evaluated the severity of depressive symptoms using the Korean version of the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-K). We quantified the WML volumes from the brain MRI using a fully automated segmentation algorithm. Results-The log of the WML volume in the frontal lobe was significantly associated with depressive disorders (odds ratio=1.905, 95% CI=1.027–3.533, p=0.041), but not with the severity of depressive symptoms as measured by the GDS-K. Conclusion-The WML volume in the frontal lobe conferred a risk of comorbid depressive disorders in AD, which implies that comorbid depression in AD may be attributed to vascular causes.
Development of a Nanoprecision 3-DOF Vertical Positioning System With a Flexure Hinge

<P>This paper describes the conceptual design of an ultraprecision 3-DOF (Z, Ox, Oy) vertical positioning system with nanometer precision. The vertical out-of-plane positioning system can be used for various nanoalignment applications, such as optical instrument alignment. The proposed vertical positioning system is driven by three piezoelectric (PZT) actuators and is guided by three rotationally symmetric hinges. Because the displacement generated by a PZT actuator is very small, the proposed system also includes an amplification hinge mechanism. Because the relationships between the variables of the hinge parameters and system performance levels are complicated, an optimization procedure to obtain optimal design parameters, which maximize the system bandwidth, is developed. Based on the solution to the optimization problem, the design of a vertical positioning system and finite-element-method simulation results are presented. Finally, the stage is manufactured and tested for verification. The stroke of the translational movement is 190 mm, and the stroke of the rotational movement is 0.5 mrad, whereas their in-position stability levels are ±2 nm and ±20 nrad and resolutions are 5 nm and 80 nrad, respectively. The settling time is less than 45 ms.</P>

During a cold start, engine consumes more fuels compared with in hot operating condition. Because high viscosity of engine oil at low temperature increases mechanical frictions and thermal losses. Therefore, many warm up devices were researched about shortening its heat-up time to reduce mechanical frictions and fuel consumptions for decades. An exhaust gas with high temperature and volumetric flow rate can provide a possibility of high thermal potential to an engine. In this paper, heat exchanger system was consisted of engine oil circuit and heating components installation using EGR. The oil heater stand on CFD and engine numerical optimization applied to real engine test. And it is analyzed the effects of engine oil heater about the warm-up characteristics of engine variables and the fuel consumption in WLTP cycle. The results were compared with analytical modeling and engine bench test results in WLTP cycle.

최근에 메모리 용량이 확대된 태그가 개발되면서 다양한 제품식별코드체계를 사용할 수 있게 되었다. 여기서는 새로 개발된 ISO태그 용량을 수용하면서 ISO의 식별표준을 수용하는 국가물품식별코드 체계를 새롭게 제안하였다. 우선, 물품관리에 필요한 식별코드체계로서 ISO/IEC 15459와 EPC 코드체계를 비교 분석한다. 그리고 ISO/IEC 18000-6C와 EPC 태그 메모리 구조를 비교 분석한다. 이러한 분석을 기반으로 기존에 개발된 RFID기반의 국가물품식별코드를 분석하며 표준화 관점에서 문제점을 제시한다. 그리고 지적된 문제점을 극복하기 위해 ISO/IEC 15459 표준에 적합한 새로운 식별코드체계를 제시한다. 마지막으로 태그 인코딩을 위하여 식별코드체계 관련 데이터를 설계한다. As memory-extended RFID tags are recently developed, various types of item identification structures can be stored in the tags. In this paper, we propose a new national product identifier(NPI) which accepts not only ISO item identification standards but also the memory capacity of ISO tags. First of all, item identification structures of ISO/IEC 15459 and EPC, and memory structures of ISO/IEC 18000-6C and EPC tags are analyzed. Based on these analyses, the NPI currently used is analyzed and its problems are described from the viewpoint of standardization. To overcome the problems, a new NPI structure suitable for ISO/IEC 15459 is proposed. Finally, data related to the NPI is designed for encoding to tags.
