Proceedings of International Symposium on East-West Medicine, Seoul. 117-127, 1999.-This study was carried out to investigate the effect of Sojeokbaekchoolsan on immune response and metastasis of B16-Fo melanoma cells. The result were summarized as follows:1. Metastasisi of B16-Fo melanoma cell in C57BL/6 mice were decreased in the Sojeokbaekchoolsan treated group as compared with the control group. 2 Blastic response of lymphocyte to Con A were increased in the Sojeokbaekchoolsan teated group as compared with the control group. 3. Blastic response of lymphocyte to LPS were increased in the Sojeokbaekchoolsan treated group as compared with the control group. 4 Blastic response of lymphocyte to PWM were increased in the Sojeokbaekchoolasn treated group as compared with the control groupl From the above results, It is suggested that Sojeokbaekchoolsan enhanced as well cellula-mediated and humoral immune response as sojeokbaekchoolsan supressed the metastasis of tumor cells as compared with the control group.

The Blade is typical hot gas part of gas turbine. especially 1st blade is operated severe environments which include both above 1300℃ high temperature gas and thermal stress by high speed rotation of 3600 rpm. To obtain high efficiency, thermal barrier coating(TBC) and internal cooling system have been used. In this study, we examined thermal barrier coating and base materials of 1st and 2nd blades to evaluate degree of degradation, and then investigate the type and cause of failure by degradation.
Pulmonary benign metastasizing leiomyoma : A case series

Benign metastasizing leiomyoma (BML) is a rare disease,which has the potential to metastasize to distant sites, such as the lung, lymph nodes, muscular tissue, heart,or retroperitoneum. But the prognosis of BML is excellent. The objective of this study are to see the prognosis of BML (benign metastasizing leiomyoma) in lung, 10 women who diagnosed or treated in our hospital. This is a case series with retrospective review of Samsung medical center in South Korea between 1999 to 2011. Patients diagnosed BML in lung as Wedge biopsy(VATS) or core Biopsy of pulmonary . Data including clinical profiles (patient age, Hx. Of operation, interval (op~lung meta) years) and treatment outcome. The patients were treated in a variety of ways,(progestins, aromatase inhibitor or SERM with or without bilateral salpingo-opherectomy) and follow up as out patientevery 3~6 months to see the prognosis (recurrence and distant metastases) by chest computed tomography (CT) 10 women were diagnosed as BML in lung.The median age of 10 women were 53 (range between 44-65 years) years and mean interval between myoma operation and the development of lung lesions was 10 years (range, 5~19 years). Among them 4 patients dropped because of follow up loss. After tissue confirm,They underwent hysterectomy or open myomectomy. One patient didn`t receive operation. All of the patients are maintain stable state or totally cured. It showed that there is no difference of result between the treated method. Our study also had good prognosis But it has limitation that the study was only 6 patients.And it needs to study long-term follow up to detect recurrence or distant metastases. And because of the limited therapeutic options, new drugs or new therapeutic modalities should be considered. In the future, studies with long-term follow-up may be helpful for their implication in clinical practice.

<P>The effect of the post-annealing on the properties of the La<SUB>0.6</SUB>Sr<SUB>0.4</SUB>CoO<SUB>3-δ</SUB>-Ce<SUB>0.9</SUB>Gd<SUB>0.1</SUB>O<SUB>2-δ</SUB> (LSC-GDC) nano-composite cathode fabricated by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) is investigated. Implementing the post-annealing treatment at a temperature in the range of 800°C ∼ 1000°C enables the control of the grain size in the LSC-GDC over the range of several tens of nanometers to near one-hundred nanometers. Moreover, the post-annealing treatment improves the interconnectivity between the same materials and mitigates the vertical separation between the columnar domains, resulting in the reduction of the lateral conduction loss. In terms of the electrochemical properties, the cathodic activity of the post-annealed cathode appears to be reduced due to the reduction in the number of the surface reaction sites, which is a result of the post-annealing grain-size growth. Although this grain-size growth results less power output of the solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) using a post-annealed LSC-GDC cathode relative to that of the SOFC using the as-deposited LSC-GDC cathode, the lifetime of the former at 650°C is improved.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A previous study showed that small G protein signaling modulator 3 (SGSM3) was highly correlated with Cx43 in heart functions and that high levels of SGSM3 may induce Cx43 turnover through lysosomal degradation in infarcted rat hearts. Here, we investigated the protective effects of kenpaullone on cardiomyocytes following H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>-induced oxidative stress mediated by the interaction of SGSM3 with Cx43. We found that the gap junction protein Cx43 was significantly down-regulated in an H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> concentration-dependent manner, whereas expression of SGSM3 was up-regulated upon H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> exposure in H9c2 cells. The effect of kenpaullone pretreatment on H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>-induced cytotoxicity was evaluated in H9c2 cells. H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> markedly increased the release of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), while kenpaullone pretreatment suppressed LDH release in H9c2 cells. Moreover, kenpaullone pretreatment significantly reduced ROS fluorescence intensity and significantly down-regulated the level of apoptosis-activating genes (cleaved caspase-3, cleaved caspase-9 and cytochrome C), autophagy markers (LC3A/B), and the Cx43-interacting partner SGSM3. These results suggest that kenpaullone plays a role in protecting cardiomyocytes from oxidative stress and that the turnover of Cx43 through SGSM3-induced lysosomal degradation underlies the anti-apoptotic effect of kenpaullone.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Cx43 was down-regulated in an H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> concentration-dependent manner, whereas SGSM3 was up-regulated in H9c2 cells. </LI> <LI> Kenpaullone pretreatment reduced ROS fluorescence intensity and apoptosis-activating gene levels. </LI> <LI> Kenpaullone plays a role in protecting cardiomyocytes from oxidative stress. </LI> </UL> </P>

<▼1><B>Abstract</B><P/></▼1><▼2><P>In a 2.25Cr1.5W heat-resistant alloy, it is shown that the time to intergranular failure under tensile stress <I>t</I> can be expressed by $t_0 \sigma ^{ - n} \exp \left({Q/RT} \right)$, where <I>t</I>0 is the constant of proportionality, <I>n</I> is the stress exponent, and <I>Q</I> is the activation enthalpy. It is shown that the dimples observed at elevated-temperature intergranular fracture surfaces are not the micro-ductile fracture areas but the interfaces between the grain boundary carbides and the neighboring grains. It is also shown that the segregation concentration of solute atoms is much higher at the grain boundary carbide interfaces than at the carbide-free grain boundaries. Under tensile stress, the elevated-temperature intergranular cracking occurs through the decohesion of grain boundary carbide interfaces, which is followed by the eventual carbide-free grain boundary cracking.</P></▼2>
