Sargassum horneri is inedible and invasive species of brown macroalgae that expands and drifts in Spring and Summer, causing damages to the ecosystem of the south coast of Korea, especially Jeju island. Korean government is preventively collecting large amounts of S. horneri biomass before reaching to the coast, but there is no other way to dispose or utilize the biomass but landfill and incineration. In the present study, S. honeri biomass was tested as a raw material for biological production of lactic acid, a type of commodity chemicals for polymer synthesis. Using commercial cellulases and lactic acid-producing engineered yeast, simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) conditions were optimized and lactic acid production was demonstrated. Finally, lactic acid was produced at a yield of 0.24 g lactic acid/g dried biomass and at a productivity of 0.73 g lactic acid/L-h, suggesting an industrial potential to biologically utilize S. honeri coastal waste.
Fabrication of Highly Ordered Nanopillar Array Electrode for High-Performance Humidity Sensors

Humidity sensors are used in various applications to provide suitable environmental conditions. High-performance humid- ity sensors require highly sensitive active sites to detect water molecules. In this study, a nanopillar-array-based electrode (NAE) was developed, which has a large specifi c surface area and is applicable to various humidity-sensing materials. The NAE, which was fabricated via photo-lithography and soft lithography, exhibited superior electrochemical capacitance and diff usion behavior compared to fl at electrodes. The NAE-based humidity sensor exhibited a high sensitivity and linearity, low hysteresis error, and long-term stability for a duration of 25 days. Moreover, the humidity sensor maintained a consistent impedance signal in a mechanically bent state. Furthermore, the real-time monitoring performance of the humidity sensor was demonstrated by measuring humidity changes during plant transpiration.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify factors influencing nursing professionalism among outpatient nurses. Methods: Data were collected through a self-evaluation survey of 157 nurses from general and tertiary hospitals in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, Korea. Data were analyzed using independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Importance-Performance Analysis, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The mean scores were as follows: importance, 3.29 out of 5; performance, 2.50 out of 4; role conflict, 3.23 out of 5; and nursing professionalism, 3.23 out of 5. There were statistically significant positive correlations between the importance (r=.32, p<.001) and performance (r=.38, p<.001) of nursing activities and professionalism. There were statistically significant negative correlations between role conflict and nursing professionalism (r=-.20, p=.014). Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that the importance of nursing activities, performance of nursing activities, role conflict, working department, and sex explained 33.0% of outpatient nurses’ professionalism (F=8.66, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings indicate educational system about important and highly accomplished tasks would be useful to improve nursing professionalism of outpatient nurses. Furthermore, reducing role conflicts by clearly distinguishing tasks is necessary to increase nursing professionalism.

대학생의 거부민감성이 SNS 중독 경향성에 미치는 영향: 경험회피와 사회불안의 매개효과

목적 본 연구의 목적은 대학생의 SNS 중독 경향성에 영향을 미치는 변인을 확인하는 것이다. 이를 위해 거부민감성이 SNS 중독 경향성으로 가는 경로에서 경험회피와 사회불안을 매개로 하는 모형을 설정하여 모형의 적합성과 각 변인의 관련성을 확인하였다. 방법 연구를 위하여 서울, 경기, 충남 소재의 4년제 대학 재학생 182명의 자료를 수집하였으며, 변인들 간 관계를 추정하기 위해 SPSS 22.0을 사용하여 빈도분석 및 상관분석을 하고, 이중매개효과를 알아보기 위해 Process Macro Model 6를 사용하였다. 결과 본 연구의 주요결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 남녀 대학생의 거부민감성, 경험회피, 사회불안, SNS 중독 경향성은 모두 유의미한 관계를 보였다. 둘째, 남녀 대학생 모두 거부민감성이 SNS 중독 경향성에 직접적인 영향을 끼치지 않았으나 경험회피에는 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 남녀 대학생 모두 거부민감성이 SNS 중독 경향성에 직접적인 영향을 끼치지 않았으나 사회불안에는 유의미한 영향을 미쳤으며 경험회피 또한 사회불안에 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 넷째, 거부민감성과 SNS 중독 경향성의 관계에서 여학생의 경우 경험회피와 사회불안의 순차적 매개효과가 유의하게 나타났으나 남학생에게서는 발견되지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 결론 본 연구는 거부민감성이 높을수록 SNS 중독 경향성이 높으며 두 변인의 관계는 경험회피 및 사회불안이 설명할 수 있다. 또한 거부민감성과 SNS 중독 경향성의 관계에서 사회불안의 매개효과가 남녀 대학생 간 성차가 나타나는 것을 확인할 수 있으며, SNS 중독 경향성을 치료할 때 성별에 따른 다양한 치료계획과 상담적 개입이 필요하다는 것을 시사한다. Objectives The purpose of this study is to identify the variables that influence SNS addiction tendency among college students. To this end, we established a model in which rejection sensitivity mediates experience avoidance and social anxiety in the path to SNS addiction tendency, and checked the model's fit and the relevance of each variable. Methods For the study, These data were collected from 182 students going to four-year universities in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Chungnam, and frequency analysis and correlation analysis were conducted using SPSS 22.0 to estimate the relationship between variables, and Process Macro Model 6 was used to examine the dual mediation effect. Results The main findings of this study are as follows. First, rejection sensitivity, experience avoidance, social anxiety, and SNS addiction tendencies of male and female college students all showed significant relationships. Second, rejection sensitivity did not directly affect SNS addiction tendencies of both male and female college students, but it affected experience avoidance. Third, for both male and female college students, rejection sensitivity did not have a direct effect on SNS addiction tendency, but it had a significant effect on social anxiety, and experience avoidance also had a significant effect on social anxiety. Fourth, the sequential mediation effects of experience avoidance and social anxiety were found significant in the relationship between rejection sensitivity and SNS addiction tendency for female students, but not for male students. Conclusions This study found the higher rejection sensitive is, the higher SNS addiction tendency is, and the relationship between the two variables can be explained by experience avoidance and social anxiety. In addition, the mediating effect of social anxiety in the relationship between rejection sensitivity and SNS addiction tendency shows gender differences between male and female college students, suggesting that different treatment plans and counseling interventions according to gender are needed to treat SNS addiction tendency.
Development of Clarification Methods for Apple Cider Production from Fresh Apples

The apple is one of the antioxidant-rich crops which is widely grown up in the temperate climates, so many processed foods/beverages using apples have been developed. Among beverages the cider and apple-fermented alcoholic beverage, are commonly consumed beverages in Europe and Northern America. However, in the apple extract producing process of apple juice and cider, there is a low extract yield problem because of high pectin and glucan contents in apples. In this study, we made apple hydrolysates by treated pectinase and glucanase and filtrated the hydrolysate of apple extracts through centrifuge and syringe. As a result, through enzyme pre-treatment and treatment time optimizing, we improved the clarification process in apple cider manufacture. In a sensory test, apple cider which is made by the improved process has advantages than old one. In this study, we present optimized clarification process conditions in apple cider production.
