Role of Ag doping on microstructure and properties of Y-Ba-Cu-Ag-O(YBCO) superconductors has been studied. The solubility limit of Ag for Cu sites in YBa_2Cu_3- xAgxO_7-δ superconductors was evaluated to be x = 0.06. Part of the Ag was observed to be segregated on the YBCO grain boundaries. These segregated Ag particles are believed to pin YBCO grains, resulting in fine-grain microstructures. For low nominal Ag content, Xn < 0.2, critical current density(Jc) and critical temperature(Tc) increased as a function of increasing Ag content, probably due to increased oxygen content and associated microstructural changes in the YBCO. For higher nominal Ag content, Xn > 0.2, however, both jc and Tc decreased with increasing Ag content because of precipitation of nonsuperconducting phases and possible lower oxygen content in YBCO due to Ag particles.

인삼(panax ginseng)은 한국의 주요 농산물 중 하나이며, 국내에서는 인삼경작지에서 매년 2천만 파운드 이상의 건삼을 생산하고 있다. 이들 대부분은 중국, 일본, 그 외 여러 나라에 수출되고 있다. 인삼은 다른 작물에 비해 낮은 생산성을 보이는데 이는 주로 병해로 인한 피해 때문이다. 이에 천연물과 VOC처리로 인한 항균 효과와 뿌리썩음병 억제형 토양을 위한 Siderophore에 관한 내용을 보고하고자 한다. 0.1%의 Rosemary essential oil처리로 Sclerotinia nivalis를 완전히 저해하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 생강(Zingiber officinale Rose.) 에쎈셜오일의 항곰팡이 효과를 평가하였는데 0.3%의 에쎈셜오일로서 Altcmaria panax, Botrytis cinerea, Cylindrocarpon destructans, Fusarium oxysporum, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, and Sclerotinia nivalis을 완전히 저해하는 것으로 나타났다. 주요 화학적 조성은 citral (2, 6-octadienal, 3,7-dimethyl) (76.94%), verbenyl ethyl ether (3.98 %), geranic acid (2.57%), artemiseole (1.12%)인 것으로 분석되었다. 씨더포어 생산능이 가장 높은 균주는 Pseudomonas putida KNU9와 KNU3으로서 85, 84%의 생산능을 나타냈다. Pyoverdine은 토양 내 철 결핍 시 Pseudomonads에 의해 생성되는 Siderophore이다. 근권에서 분주한 균주 중 P. putida속이 가장 높은 Siderophore 생성을 나타냈으며, DNA 분리, PCR, E. coli DH 5a transformation을 통하여 pyoverdine 대사에 주요하게 관여하는 7개의 gene(pA, PvdA, pD, PvdD, pH, PvdH, pL, PvdL)으로 나타났다. 씨더포어화합물은 철 결핍토양에서 주로 생합성 되지만 이 화합물은 다른 금속이온들과도 결합한다. 따라서 다양한 근권 진균을 이용하여 Zn<sup>2+</sup> 농도를 달리하여 씨더포어화합물의 생성을 알아보았다. 이 균주들은 Panax Ginseng의 근권으로부터 분리하였으며, 이 균주의 씨더포어 생성능은 Chrome azurol S(CAS) assay를 통하여 확인하였다. 철 결핍 환경에서 Zn<sup>2+</sup> 농도 증가시 씨더포어 생성이 증가하는 것으로 나타났으며, 최대 씨더포어 생성은 200ug/mL인 것으로 나타났다. Zn<sup>2+</sup> 농도에 영향을 많이 받는 균주는 Penicilliiim sp. JJHO로서 이는 P. commune와 18s-rRNA 서열분석결과 100% 상동성을 나타냈다. 정제된 Penicillium sp. JJHO는 UV, FTIR, MALDI-TOF-MS spectra를 통하여 화학적으로 구조를 확인하였다.

The role of Ag additions on the resistance to thermal shock of YBCO superconductor wires has been studied. It was observed that addition of Ag to YBCO improved mechanical properties such as strength and fracture toughness. In addition, composite YBCO-Ag wires show a slower decrease in critical current density (J_c) than does monolithic YBCO as the number of thermal cycles increases. The improved resistance to thermal shock is believed to be due to improvement in mechanical properties and thermal conductivity of YBCO as a result of Ag addition.

<P>In pursuit of the elusive mechanism of high-<I>T</I><SUB><I>C</I></SUB> superconductors (HTSC), spectroscopic imaging scanning tunneling microscopy (SI-STM) is an indispensable tool for surveying local properties of HTSC. Since a conventional STM utilizes metal tips, which allow the examination of only quasiparticles and not superconducting (SC) pairs, Josephson tunneling using STM has been demonstrated by many authors in the past. An atomically resolved scanning Josephson tunneling microscopy (SJTM), however, was realized only recently on Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Sr<SUB>2</SUB>CaCu<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>8+<I>x</I></SUB> (Bi-2212) below 50 mK and on the Pb(110) surface at 20 mK. Here we report the atomically resolved SJTM on Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Sr<SUB>2</SUB>CaCu<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>8+<I>x</I></SUB> at 4.2 K using Bi-2212 tips created <I>in situ</I>. The <I>I</I>-<I>V</I> characteristics show clear zero bias conductance peaks following Ambegaokar-Baratoff (AB) theory. A gap map was produced for the first time using an atomically resolved Josephson critical current map <I>I</I><SUB><I>C</I></SUB>(<I>r</I>) and AB theory. Surprisingly, we found that this new gap map is anticorrelated to the gap map produced by a conventional method relying on the coherence peaks. Quasiparticle resonance due to a single isolated zinc atom impurity was also observed by SJTM, indicating that atomically resolved SJTM was achieved at 4.2 K. Our result provides a starting point for realizing SJTM at even higher temperatures, rendering possible investigation of the existence of SC pairs in HTSC above the <I>T</I><SUB><I>C</I></SUB>.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
The Effect of Inorganic Nitrate Supplementation on Muscle Fatigue in Healthy Adults; A Meta-Analysis

Abstract: The positive effects of dietary supplementation with beetroot juice have been reported on diverse aspects of sports performance, but its impact on muscle fatigue remains unclear. Purpose: The purpose of this meta-analysis is to investigate the effect of beetroot juice supplement on muscle fatigue assessed by changes in strength or power outputs. Methods: Through the comprehensive search using major databases, 215 relevant studies were identified. Three search terms were used to identify potentially relevant articles; “Beetroot” AND “Exercise” AND “Fatigue.” Several moderator analyses were conducted to examine the effect of dosage, timing of supplementation, type of measure, gender, and participation on the overall effect size. Results: The results showed a significant positive effect of beetroot juice supplementation on muscle fatigue: the overall strength of ESs (Hedges’ g) was .334 (95% CI = .149, .520, p < .001; moderate effects; cf., Cohen’s criteria). The prediction interval was -.925 to 1.593, indicating that there are some populations for which the impact of beetroot juice on fatigue would be negative. There was no significant effect of moderators (participation (athletes vs. non-athletes), duration of supplement consumption, NO3 − concentration, gender, and type of measurement (power vs. strength) on the size of the effect. Conclusion: This study shows that dietary beetroot juice supplementation significantly reduces fatigue indicated by a decline in strength and power outputs.
