<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We developed a design for a 6MeV X-band linear accelerator for radiation therapy in a dual-head gantry layout. The dual-head gantry has two linacs that can be operated independently. Each X-band linac accelerates electron bunches using high-power RF and generates X-rays for radiation therapy. It requires a versatile RF system and pulse sequence to accomplish various radiation therapy procedures.</P> <P>The RF system consists of 9.3GHz, 2MW X-band magnetron and associated RF transmission components. A test linac was assembled and operated to characterize its RF performance without beam. This paper presents these results along with a description of the gantry linacs and their operational requirements.</P>

One of the most important problems for China is the gaps between the economies of the different regions of China. The purpose of the paper is to investigate the long-run trends of interregional inequality measured by provincial per capita income. The anlysis shows that there is no support for the view tat regional inequality in China fell significantly during periods such as that of the Cultural Revolution or rose as a result of market=oriented reforms. The reality in China in the 1980s is in fact quite in contradiction to the most peole's perceptions. The rich did not grow richer nor did the poor grow poorer.
Effect of main ligands on organic photovoltaic performance of Ir(<small>III</small>) complexes

<P>The photovoltaic performance of devices fabricated using three iridium complexes (1, 2, and 3) containing different main ligands (1-phenylisoquinoline, (4-isoquinolin-1-yl-phenyl)diphenylamine, and 1-pyren-1-yl-isoquinoline for 1, 2, and 3, respectively) was investigated. Two different devices, one fabricated by spin coating and one produced by vacuum deposition, were tested. Among the bulk heterojunction solar cells (BHJCs) fabricated by spin coating, the cell fabricated using 2 had the highest power conversion efficiency (PCE, 0.50%). The PCEs of 1 and 3 were 0.43% and 0.34%, respectively. These results suggested that the superior hole-transport ability of the triphenylamine moiety in 2 was responsible for the high photovoltaic performance of the device fabricated using this complex. This assumption was confirmed by fabricating electron-only devices using the three Ir complexes and comparing the turn-on voltage of each device. The photovoltaic performance of device C fabricated by the vacuum co-deposition of 2 and C<SUB>60</SUB> in a 50 nm-thick active layer was 50% higher than that of device A (bilayer heterojunction solar cell) and device B (fabricated by the co-deposition of 2 and C<SUB>60</SUB> with a 30 nm-thick active layer).</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>This study provides the first example of the use of Ir complexes as donors in the fabrication of organic photovoltaic cells and the power conversion efficiency of 0.60% was obtained for the photovoltaic cell fabricated by a co-deposition method. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c1nj20446g'> </P>

The SKKUCY-10 cyclotron based on 83.2 MHz, 40 kV half-wave RF cavity was developed at Sungkyunkwan University for the production of medical radioisotopes. The resonant frequency fRF of the cyclotron and the RF coupling coefficient βc of the RF cavity system were measured at various vacuum, and temperature conditions. The normalized multi-pacting intensities at four positions in the power coupler were analyzed to predict the multi-pacting power. Differences, ΔfRF and Δβc , caused by the vacuum, and temperature conditions were modified based on the coupler and tuner gap distances. During the RF conditioning, a constant 15 kW pulse mode and a variable 1 to 15 kW continuous wave mode were employed. The values of the reflection coefficient Γ and βc were 1.2% and 0.8, respectively, when the cavity dissipation power was 12.4 kW at 83.2 MHz. Good agreement between the simulation and experimental data was obtained.

<P><I>Pectobacterium carotovorum</I> subsp. <I>carotovorum</I> is a well-known plant pathogen that causes severe soft rot disease in various crops, resulting in considerable economic loss. To identify pathogenicity-related factors, Chinese cabbage was inoculated with 5314 transposon mutants of <I>P. carotovorum</I> subsp. <I>carotovorum</I> Pcc21 derived using Tn5 transposon mutagenesis. A total of 35 reduced-virulence or avirulent mutants were isolated, and 14 loci were identified. The 14 loci could be functionally grouped into nutrient utilization (<I>pyrD</I>, <I>purH</I>, <I>purD</I>, <I>leuA</I> and <I>serB</I>), production of plant cell-wall-degrading enzymes (PCWDEs) (<I>expI</I>, <I>expR</I> and PCC21_023220), motility (<I>flgA, fliA</I> and <I>flhB</I>), biofilm formation (<I>expI</I>, <I>expR</I> and <I>qseC</I>), susceptibility to antibacterial plant chemicals (<I>tolC</I>) and unknown function (ECA2640). Among the 14 genes identified, <I>qseC</I>, <I>tolC</I> and PCC21_023220 are novel pathogenicity factors of <I>P. carotovorum</I> subsp. <I>carotovorum</I> involved in biofilm formation, phytochemical resistance and PCWDE production, respectively.</P>

<P>A new method is presented to obtain arbitrary coupling levels of the branch-line couplers through the simple modification of the 3-dB coupler. It is shown that the coupling of the conventional 3-dB branch-line coupler can be adjusted to arbitrary values by varying the electrical length of the branches without changing the impedances. A very wide range of coupling values can easily be obtained using the same line impedances as the conventional 3-dB couplers based on the proposed method.</P>
