On the Flow Characteristics of a Swirl - Jet Diffuser
Jong-Soo Jurng,Chun-Sik Lee 대한설비공학회 1995 International Journal Of Air-Conditioning and Refr Vol.3 No.-
Experiments have been carried out to study the flow characteristics of a swirl-jet diffuser for factory ventilation. Swirl number of the flow through the swirl jet diffuser, defined by the ratio of tangential momentum flux to axial one, depends on the angle of swirl vane. It ranges from a to 0.61 in the experiments. Air velocity profiles have been measured by a hot wire anemometer and three-hole Pitot tube. Pressure drop through the diffuser has also been measured by a manometer.<br/> With a weak swirl, the air velocity profile does not change significantly. But the peak air velocity on the jet axis decreases with increasing swirl number. With the stronger swirl, for example larger than 0.6, the velocity profile does not have a similar shape to that of non-swirl jet. A saddle-like shape of velocity profile is found with the velocity of 0.2㎧ on the axis at the distance of 3 meters from the diffuser exit. The measurements of pressure drop also reveals that pressure drop increases with swirl and is proportional to the square of the swirl number.
