<P>The emergence of a triple phase point in a two-dimensional parameter space (such as pressure and temperature) can offer unforeseen opportunities for the coupling of two seemingly independent order parameters. On the basis of this, we demonstrate the electric control of magnetic order by manipulating chemical pressure: lanthanum substitution in the antiferromagnetic ferroelectric BiFeO3. Our demonstration relies on the finding that a multiferroic triple phase point of a single spin-disordered phase and two spin-ordered phases emerges near room temperature in Bi0.9La0.1FeO3 ferroelectric thin films. By using spatially resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy, we provide direct evidence that the electric poling of a particular region of the compound near the triple phase point results in an antiferromagnetic phase while adjacent unpoled regions remain magnetically disordered, opening a promising avenue for magnetoelectric applications at room temperature.</P>

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic and highly pruritic disease with a high socioeconomic burden, various aggravating factors let the patients be suffered from disease flair. Skin barrier enforcement, infection control and anti-inflammatory agents are the basics of atopic dermatitis treatment. Increased skin surface pH due to abnormal soap usage can induce various negative effects on skin barrier of atopic dermatitis patient functions such as intact epidermal permeability barrier, SC integrity/ cohesion and antimicrobial barrier function. In addition to barrier reinforcement using epidermal lipid containing barrier cream to compensate these disrupted skin barrier, less barrier breaking cleanses could help to maintain skin surface optimal pH4.5-5.5. Many educational guideline book for atopic patient`s bathing methods recommend the liquid cleanser or cleansing foam instead of classic bar soap. We compared the effects of cleansing foam and classic soap on the disrupted skin barrier of healthy 20 adult. After barrier disruption using rubbing methods and application of cleansing foam and classic soap on the forearms, the results showed the better barrier recovery at 3hr on the group of cleansing foam as 80% compared to the bar soap as 63.4%. The skin surface pH also more increased in the group of bar soap than cleansing foam. We suggested the evidence based guidelines for atopic dermatitis as using the cleansing foam than classic bar for better barrier recovery and maintenance acidic skin surface to barrier disrupted atopic skin.

Dyslipidemia, mainly characterized by high triglyceride (TG) and low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels, is an important etiological factor in the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Considering the relationship between childhood obesity and CVD risk, it would be worthwhile to evaluate whether previously identified lipid-related variants in adult subjects are associated with lipid variations in a childhood obesity study (n = 482). In an association analysis for 16 genome-wide association study (GWAS)-based candidate loci, we confirmed significant associations of a genetic predisposition to lipoprotein concentrations in a childhood obesity study. Having two loci (rs10503669 at LPL and rs16940212 at LIPC) that showed the strongest association with blood levels of TG and HDL-C, we calculated a genetic risk score (GRS), representing the sum of the risk alleles. It has been observed that increasing GRS is significantly associated with decreased HDL-C (effect size, $-1.13{\pm}0.07$) compared to single nucleotide polymorphism combinations without two risk variants. In addition, a positive correlation was observed between allelic dosage score and risk allele (rs10503669 at LPL) on high TG levels (effect size, $10.89{\pm}0.84$). These two loci yielded consistent associations in our previous meta-analysis. Taken together, our findings demonstrate that the genetic architecture of circulating lipid levels (TG and HDL-C) overlap to a large extent in childhood as well as in adulthood. Post-GWAS functional characterization of these variants is further required to elucidate their pathophysiological roles and biological mechanisms.

Nowadays, most people carry a smart device that is a smart phone or a smart pad. Usually with a smart phone, we can use it as a phone, a calculator, a scheduler and even as a navigator. There are 2 types of smart device, one is an Android(http://developer.android.com/) platform and the other is as IOS(http://developer.apple.com/) platform. Application developing language is different from each other. Programmer for android has to use Javatm and one for IOS has to us Objective-C language. We make applications(App) for smart device, especially for IOS such as iPhone and iPad. One of the applications is in the form of ICT(Information and Communications Technology). With the program, we can monitor an electric power consumption of building. We can check current electric power usage, today electricity charge, electric usage pattern and so on. Another is for technical calculation applications, such as calculation for boiler efficiency, calculation for fuel heating value, boiler operation monitoring and so on.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a leading cause of liver disease and a key safety factor during drug development. In addition to the initiation events of drug-specific hepatotoxicity, dysregulated immune responses have been proposed as major pathological events of DILI. Thus, there is a need for a reliable cell culture model with which to assess drug-induced immune reactions to predict hepatotoxicity for drug development. To this end, stem cell-derived hepatocytes have shown great potentials. Here we report that hepatocyte-like cells derived from human embryonic stem cells (hES-HLCs) can be used to evaluate drug-induced hepatotoxic immunological events. Treatment with acetaminophen significantly elevated the levels of inflammatory cytokines by hES-HLCs. Moreover, three human immune cell lines, Jurkat, THP-1, and NK92MI, were activated when cultured in conditioned medium obtained from acetaminophen-treated hES-HLCs. To further validate, we tested thiazolidinedione (TZD) class, antidiabetic drugs, including troglitazone withdrawn from the market because of severe idiosyncratic drug hepatotoxicity. We found that TZD drug treatment to hES-HLCs resulted in the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and eventually associated immune cell activation. In summary, our study demonstrates for the first time the potential of hES-HLCs as an <I>in vitro</I> model system for assessment of drug-induced as well as immune-mediated hepatotoxicity.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Generation and characterization of hES-HLCs for evaluation of drug-induced immune cell-mediated hepatotoxicity. </LI> <LI> The secretion of inflammatory cytokines is highly enhanced from APAP-treated hES-HLCs. </LI> <LI> Immune cells are activated and produce pro-inflammatory cytokines by conditioned medium from hES-HLCs cultured with APAP. </LI> <LI> Hepatotoxic results in hES-HLCs are consistent with those of primary human hepatocytes. </LI> <LI> Hepatotoxic drugs such as TZD, and non-hepatotoxic drugs such as aspirin and metformin, are also validated with our drug screening system. </LI> </UL> </P>

Filamentous fungi colonizing rice straw were collected from 11 different sites in Korea and were identified based on characterization of their morphology and molecular properties. The fungi were divided into 25 species belonging to 16 genera, including 14 ascomycetes, one zygomycete, and one basidiomycete. Fungal cellulolytic and xylanolytic enzymes were assessed through a two-step process, wherein highly active cellulase- and/or hemicellulaseproducing fungi were selected in a first screening step followed by a second step to isolate the best enzymeproducer. Twenty-five fungal species were first screened for the production of total cellulase (TC), endo-β-1,4 glucanase (EG), and endo-β-1,4 xylanase (XYL) using solid-state fermentation with rice straw as substrate. From this screening, six species, namely, Aspergillus niger KUC5183, A. ochraceus KUC5204, A. versicolor KUC5201, Mucor circinelloides KUC6014, Trichoderma harzianum 1 KUC5182, and an unknown basidiomycete species, KUC8721, were selected. These six species were then incubated in liquid Mandels` media containing cellulose, glucose, rice straw, or xylan as the sole carbon source and the activities of six different enzymes were measured. Enzyme production was highly influenced by media conditions and in some cases significantly increased. Through this screening process, Trichoderma harzianum 1 KUC5182 was selected as the best enzyme producer. Rice straw and xylan were good carbon sources for the screening of cellulolytic and xylanolytic enzymes.
