      • Mini-Array of Multiple Tumor-associated Antigens (TAAs) in the Immunodiagnosis of Esophageal Cancer

        Qin, Jie-Jie,Wang, Xiao-Rui,Wang, Peng,Ren, Peng-Fei,Shi, Jian-Xiang,Zhang, Hong-Fei,Xia, Jun-Fen,Wang, Kai-Juan,Song, Chun-Hua,Dai, Li-Ping,Zhang, Jian-Ying Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.6

Sera of cancer patients may contain antibodies that react with a unique group of autologous cellular antigens called tumor-associated antigens (TAAs). The present study aimed to determine whether a mini-array of multiple TAAs would enhance antibody detection and be a useful approach in esophageal cancer detection and diagnosis. Our mini-array of multiple TAAs consisted of eleven antigens, p53, pl6, Impl, CyclinB1, C-myc, RalA, p62, Survivin, Koc, CyclinD1 and CyclinE full-length recombinant proteins. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) were used to detect autoantibodies against eleven selected TAAs in 174 sera from patients with esophageal cancer, as well as 242 sera from normal individuals. In addition, positive results of ELISA were confirmed by Western blotting. In a parallel screening trial, with the successive addition of antigen to a final total of eleven TAAs, there was a stepwise increase in positive antibody reactions. The eleven TAAs were the best parallel combination, and the sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing esophageal cancer was 75.3% and 81.0%, respectively. The positive and negative predictive values were 74.0% and 82.0%, respectively, indicating that the parallel assay of eleven TAAs raised the diagnostic precision significantly. In addition, the levels of antibodies to seven antigens, comprising p53, Impl, C-myc, RalA, p62, Survivin, and CyclinD1, were significantly different in various stages of esophageal cancer, which showed that autoantibodies may be involved in the pathogenesis and progression of esophageal cancer. All in all, this study further supports our previous hypothesis that a combination of antibodies might acquire higher sensitivity for the diagnosis of certain types of cancer. A customized mini-array of multiple carefully-selected TAAs is able to enhance autoantibody detection in the immunodiagnosis of esophageal cancer and autoantibodies to TAAs might be reference indicators of clinical stage.

Adaptive Neural Dynamic Surface Control for a General Class of Stochastic Nonlinear Systems with Time Delays and Input Dead-zone

        Wen-Jie Si,Xun-De Dong,Fei-Fei Yang 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2017 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.15 No.5

This paper investigates adaptive tracking control for a more general class of stochastic nonlinear timedelaysystems with unknown input dead-zone. For the considered system, the drift and diffusion terms containtime-delay state variables. In control design, Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals are employed to handle unknowntime-delay terms. Then, unknown nonlinear functions are approximated by RBF neural networks, and the dynamicsurface control (DSC) technique is utilized to avoid the problem of explosion of complexity. At last, based onthe Lyapunov stability theory, a robust adaptive controller is designed to guarantee that all closed-loop signals arebounded in probability and the tracking error converges to a small neighborhood of the origin. The simulationexample is presented to further show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

      • Clinical Study of Thalidomide Combined with Dexamethasone for the Treatment of Elderly Patients with Newly Diagnosed Multiple Myeloma

        Chen, Hai-Fei,Li, Zheng-Yang,Tang, Jie-Qing,Shen, Hong-Shi,Cui, Qing-Ya,Ren, Yong-Ya,Qin, Long-Mei,Jin, Ling-Juan,Zhu, Jing-Jing,Wang, Jing,Ding, Jie,Wang, Ke-Yuan,Yu, Zi-Qiang,Wang, Zhao-Yue,Wu, Tian Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.9

Objective: To investigate the relationship between the efficacy and safety of different doses of thalidomide (Thal) plus dexamethasone (Dex) as the initial therapy in elderly patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (MM). Methods: Clinical data of 28 elderly patients with newly diagnosed MM who underwent the TD regimen as the initial therapy were analyzed retrospectively. The patients were divided into two groups according to the maximal sustained dose of Thal: lower dose (group A) and higher dose (group B). The overall response rate (ORR), progression free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and adverse events (AES) were compared between the two groups. Results: A total of 28 patients were followed up with a median of 18 months. The ORR was 60.1%. The median response time and PFS were 2.0 and 17.0 months, respectively. The mean sustained dose of Thal in group B was significantly higher than group A (292.9 mg v 180.4 mg, P=0.01). There was no significantly difference in ORR (57.1% v 64.3%, P=1.00) and PFS (9.63months v 17.66 months, P=0.73) between groups A and B. During the follow up, only five patients died (<40%) and, therefore, median OS values were not available. It is estimated, however, that the mean survival time in the two groups was 35.6 and 33.4 months (P>0.05), respectively. All of the patients tolerated the treatment well. The incidence of AES in patients with a grading above 3 in group B was significantly higher than in group A (P=0.033). Conclusions: The TD regimen results in a high response rate and manageable AES as the initial therapy in elderly patients with MM. TD should be considered as the front line regimen for the treatment of elderly patients with MM in areas with financial constraints. The clinical response can be achieved at a low dose Thal with minimal toxicity.

      • An Improved Method to Integrate Low-Cost Sensors for the Navigation of Small UAVs

        Fei Liu,Jie Li,Chang Liu,Ji Zhao 제어로봇시스템학회 2012 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2012 No.10

According to the specific application of small low-cost UAVs (Unmanned Air Vehicles), an improved method integrating MEMS gyro, MEMS accelerometer and magnetometers is proposed. Firstly, according to the sensory measurements, navigation information including two sets of Euler angles and the triad of velocity can be acquired. Subsequently, a simplified state space equation without modeling the body angular motion is established and a standard linear observation model is derived to avoid the nonlinear problems. A Correlated Extended Kalman Filter (CEKF) is adopted to improve the performance. Finally, the proposed method is verified using data collected from a flight test. The results show that the proposed method has significantly improved the performance of this integrated system.

SITUATION ASSESSMENT FOR LANE-CHANGING RISK BASED ON DRIVER’S PERCEPTION OF ADJACENT REAR VEHICLES

        Jie Ni,Jinwen Han,Zhiqiang Liu,Fei Dong 한국자동차공학회 2020 International journal of automotive technology Vol.21 No.2

With advancements in sensors and communication technologies, hazardous lane-changing can be readily identified, by analyzing driving behavior and vehicle data. Most traditional approaches to assess hazardous lane-changing depend on surrogate safety measures, such as gap acceptance, minimum safe distance, and time-to-collision (TTC). Unlike these measures, which focus on statistical data or vehicle kinematics analysis, this study proposes a new method for assessing risk when a vehicle changes lane, based on the driver’s perception of adjacent rear vehicles. First, a driver model based on virtual spring theory is used to build a risk perception model. The proposed model realizes comprehensive assessment of risk by car-following parameter amendment when the adjacent vehicle cuts in. Second, model parameters are identified using the recursive maximum likelihood method. Third, the threshold-determining mechanism is established using a first-order grey prediction model, the threshold is adjusted online based on the driver’s braking data, and the information entropy is used to judge the rationality of threshold and search the optimal threshold. Finally, offline simulation of real vehicle test data is adopted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. Results show that the algorithm can adapt to individual differences, and performs better than TTC in evaluating hazardous lane-changing.

An Improved Consistent Subspace Identification Method Using Parity Space for State-space Models

        Jie Hou,Fengwei Chen,Penghua Li,Zhiqin Zhu,Fei Liu 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2019 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.17 No.5

In this paper, an alternative consistent subspace identification method using parity space is proposed. The future/past input data and the past output data are used to construct the instrument variable to eliminate thenoise effect on consistent estimation. The extended observability matrix and the triangular block-Toeplitz matrixare then retrieved from a parity space of the noise-free matrix using a singular value decomposition based method. The system matrices are finally estimated from the above estimated matrices. The consistency of the proposedmethod for estimation of the extended observability matrix and the triangular block-Toeplitz matrix is established. Compared with the classical SIMs using parity space like SIMPCA and SIMPCA-Wc, the proposed method generallyenhances the estimated model efficiency/accuracy thanks to the use of future input data. Two examples arepresented to illustrate the effectiveness and merit of the proposed method.

Identification and expression analysis of four heat shock protein genes associated with thermal stress in rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae

        Fei Hu,Kan Ye,Xiao-Fang Tu,Yu-Jie Lu,Kiran Thakur,Zhao-Jun Wei 한국응용곤충학회 2018 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.21 No.3

In order to explore the function of heat shock proteins during thermal stress in rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae, four heat shock protein genes were cloned and characterized. These heat shock protein genes (hsps) were named as Sohsp70–1, Sohsp70–2, Sohsc70, and Sohsp90, respectively. These hsps showed high sequence conservation with the maximum identity with hsps of Tribolium castaneum and other insects. All the four genes showed the highest mRNA expression in pupal stage and the lowest levels in larval stage. The induced expression of the two Sohsp70s (Sohsp70–1 and Sohsp70–2) were reached to the highest levels (15.59-fold and 12.66-fold) after 2 h of incubation at 37 °C, respectively. Expression of Sohsp90 not only was significantly elevated by heat stress but also by cold stress. Whereas, expression level of Sohsc70 was not induced either by heat or cold stress. Furthermore, for rapid heat hardening, the expression levels of Sohsp70–1, Sohsp70–2, Sohsc70 and Sohsp90 were observed as 2.57, 2.53, 3.33 and 2.33-fold higher than control, respectively; for rapid cold hardening, the expression levels of Sohsp70–1, Sohsp70–2, Sohsc70 and Sohsp90 were reported as 2.27, 3.02, 3.37 and 2.23-fold higher than control, respectively. Hence, our results revealed that the four Sohsps were associated with temperature adaption under rapid heat or cold hardening.
