        A TBM Cutter Life Prediction Method Based on Rock Mass Classification

        Cutter life is an important economical index for tunnel boring machines (TBM) excavation, and its prediction is widely concerned. This paper introduces a method for predicting cutter life on the basis of statistics and regression. Traditional researches only evaluate the average mileage or time interval of each cutter change. Differently, the proposed method can accurately predict the mileage position of each cutter relatively, on the premise of knowing the installment radius of each cutter and the rock properties along the tunnel. In this procedure, the influence of the rock classification and rock properties of each cutter passing area on their passing distance is obtained by linear regression. For proposing and verifying the prediction method, totally 1,200 records of cutter changing caused by normal cutter wear are collected from the 4th Section of Water Supply Project from Songhua River. Among them, randomly selected 920 samples are used to determine the regression coefficients involved in the method. The method is verified by the rest 280 samples, and a reliable predicted result is obtained (MAPE = 27%, and R2 = 0.69).

      • System Dynamics Modeling of Backup Purchasing Strategies under Supply Disruption Risks

        We model a supply chain using system dynamics involving one retailer and two independent suppliers that are referred to as major supplier and backup supplier, respectively. Furthermore, the chain provides only one product; only the major supplier will experience disruptions, and the buyer uses the backup supplier either as a contingent supplier or a standby supplier. Our paper extends the existing literature and contributes by providing a better understanding of the impacts of supply disruptions on the system performance and shedding deeper insights into the value of a backup supply. Three models are built under supply disruption risks: supply chain without backup supplier, that with a contingent supplier and the one with a stand-by supplier. The retailer’s total profits are also compared to help the decision-makers choose the appropriate backup purchasing strategy.

        Measurement of Intra-Fraction Displacement of the Mediastinal Metastatic Lymph Nodes Using Four-Dimensional CT in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

        Objective: To measure the intra-fraction displacements of the mediastinal metastatic lymph nodes by using four-dimensional CT (4D-CT) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Materials and Methods: Twenty-four patients with NSCLC, who were to be treated by using three dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT), underwent a 4D-CT simulation during free breathing. The mediastinal metastatic lymph nodes were delineated on the CT images of 10 phases of the breath cycle. The lymph nodes were grouped as the upper, middle and lower mediastinal groups depending on the mediastinal regions. The displacements of the center of the lymph node in the left-right (LR), anterior-posterior (AP), and superior-inferior (SI) directions were measured. Results: The mean displacements of the center of the mediastinal lymph node in the LR, AP, and SI directions were 2.24 mm, 1.87 mm, and 3.28 mm, respectively. There were statistically significant differences between the displacements in the SI and LR, and the SI and AP directions (p < 0.05). For the middle and lower mediastinal lymph nodes, the displacement difference between the AP and SI was statistically significant (p = 0.005; p = 0.015), while there was no significant difference between the LR and AP directions (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The metastatic mediastinal lymph node movements are different in the LR, AP, and SI directions in patients with NSCLC, particularly for the middle and lower mediastinal lymph nodes. The spatial non-uniform margins should be considered for the metastatic mediastinal lymph nodes in involved-field radiotherapy.         Thermal-mechanical fully coupled analysis of high-speed angular contact ball bearings

        The thermal and mechanical properties of angular contact ball bearings are critical to their operating accuracy and service life. On the basis of the theory of dynamics and frictional heat generation, this work establishes a thermal-mechanical fully coupled model. The high-speed motion characteristics, temperature, and dynamic stiffness are analyzed, and the simulation results are compared with the theoretical calculation and experimental results. Then, the temperature and axial deformation of the bearings under different rotation speeds are analyzed, and the laws of mechanical and thermal characteristics of the bearings are obtained. Results show that an increase in the rotation speed of the inner ring causes the temperature of each component to increase, with the contact area of the balls showing the greatest increase in temperature. An increase in rotation speed also increases the axial deformation of the inner ring.

      • The Application of Hilbert-Huang Transform in the Abnormal Vibration Analysis for Metro Vehicle

        The time-frequency analysis method Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) is applied in the signal processing for metro vehicle, in order to analyze and research the reason of abnormal vibration of carbody floor. The linear superposition property and the actual physical meaning of marginal spectrum are demonstrated to assess the vibration characteristic of structure. The rail vehicle is a nonlinear system and unsteady process. All kinds of frequency domain analysis method based on Fourier Transform is short to study on the un-linear and unsteady system, cannot use it to search the abnormal vibration reason. HHT is an effective tool to research the nonlinear and unsteady process, describing the vibration amplitude changing process with time and frequency. Compared to the test results and considered that the abnormal vibration frequency come from the two times frequency components about the traction motor rotating speed which is transferred to the floor through the vehicle suspension system. The frequency is close to the natural frequency of local floor and stimulates local elastic vibration of the floor significantly. At last, the paper pointed that the frequency component maybe caused by the misalignment of flexible-coupling.

        Towards Key Issues of Disaster Aid based on Wireless Body Area Networks

        With recent advances in wireless communication and low-power miniaturized biomedical sensor and semiconductor technologies, wireless body area networks (WBAN) has become an integral part of the disaster aid system. Wearable vital sign sensors can track patients` status and location, thus enhancing disaster rescue efficiency. In the past few years, most of the literatures in the area of disaster aid system based on WBAN have focused on issues concerning wireless sensor design, sensor miniaturization, energy efficiency and communication protocols. In this paper, we will give an overview of disaster aid, discuss about the types of network communication as well as outline related issues. We will emphasize on analyzing six key issues in employing the disaster aid system. Finally, we will also highlight some of the challenges that still need to be addressed in the future in order to help the disaster aid system be truly and widely accepted by the public.

        Comparative transcriptome profiling of chilling tolerant rice chromosome segment substitution line in response to early chilling stress

        Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is thermophilic crop and all of its growth stages are affected by low temperature stress. However, some populations of common wild rice in Guangxi Province (China) (GXWR) can tolerate low temperature stress. To understand the molecular mechanisms underlying chilling tolerance in these wild rice resources, transcriptome sequencing was performed to study the differentially expressed genes (hereafter referred to as DEGs) between GXWR-derived chilling-tolerant chromosome segment substitution line (hereafter referred to as CSSL), DC90, and its chilling-sensitive recurrent parent 9311 under early chilling stress. Comparative transcriptomic analysis revealed 659 DEGs exclusively identified in DC90 in response to early chilling stress. Functional clustering by CARMO (comprehensive annotation platform for functional exploration of rice multiomics data) showed that majority of the DEGs were enriched in chloroplasts, suggesting a connection between chilling stress tolerance and photosynthesis regulation exists in rice. KEGG analysis of these DEGs presented a complicated chilling responsive regulatory network, including ‘phytohormone signaling’, ‘photosynthesis pathway’, ‘ribosome translation machinery’, ‘phenylpropanoid biosynthesis’, which is coordinately involved in early chilling response. Here, the identified DEGs and unveiled molecular regulatory network sheds light on deep understanding the mechanisms underlying rice chilling stress tolerance. As well, KEGG term-enriched DEGs, chilling tolerant QTLs (quantitative trait loci), and co-localized DEGs in introgression interval, will be focused for further functional investigation of the molecular mechanisms of chilling stress response in rice.
