Ji-Lin Dong,Wen-Li Zhang,Juan Lin,Rui-Ling Shen,Jun-Ling Si,Ying Wang 한국식품과학회 2014 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.23 No.3
Most physiologicalstudies studies of oat beta(β)-glucan have shown positive effects on regulation ofblood glucose and lipid metabolism related to β-glucanmetabolism in the gastrointestinal tract. The effects of oatβ-glucan (OG), oat bran (OB), oat flour (OF), and oatmeal(OM) containing different levels of β-glucan on digestibilityand degradation were investigated in normal mice. Chymeviscosity, the gastric emptying rate, the gastrointestinaltransit rate, the activities of intestinal digestive enzymes, the levels of plasma cholecystokinin (CCK) and motlin(MOT), and degradation of β-glucan in oat products weredetermined. β-glucans from different oat products increasedintestinal chyme viscosity, delayed gastric emptying, promoted enterokinesia, decreased amylase, trypsin, lipase, and Na+, K+-ATPase activities, and promoted secretion ofCCK and MOT, especially for oat derived β-glucan.

A barrier planar waveguide was fabricated in z-cut LiNbdO3 crystals by 4.5-MeV lithium ion implantation at a dose of 3 £ 1014 ions/cm2 at room temperature. Dark modes were observed by the prism-coupling method with wavelengths of both 633 nm and 1539 nm. The refractive index pro¯les were reconstructed by using the re°ectivity calculation method. There were about 1.1 % and 0.7 % decreases at the optical barriers of the ordinary and extraordinary refractive index at the wavelength at 633 nm, and the positions of the optical barriers were close to those of the damage peaks calculated by the TRIM098 (Transport of Ions in Matter) code. It is found that the refractive index change may be partly due to the damage induced by nuclear collision.

Zhang, Lin-Lin,Sun, Liang,Zhu, Xiao-Quan,Xu, Yong,Yang, Kuo,Yang, Fan,Yang, Yi-Ge,Chen, Guo-Qiang,Fu, Ji-Cheng,Zheng, Chen-Guang,Li, Ying,Mu, Xiao-Qiu,Shi, Xiao-Hong,Zhao, Fan,Wang, Fei,Yang, Ze,Wang, Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.7
Aims: Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified several risk variants for prostate cancer (pCa) mainly in Europeans, which need to be further verified in other racial groups. We selected six previously identified variants as candidates and to define the association with PCa in Northern Han Chinese. Methods: 749 subjects from Beijing and Tianjin in Northern China were included. Six variants (rs10505474, rs7837328, rs4242384, rs7813, rs486907 and rs1058205) were genotyped by high resolution melting (HRM) assays. The individual and cumulative contribution for of the risk of PCa and clinical covariates were analyzed. Results: Among the six candidate variants, onlyrs10505474, and rs7837328, both locating at 8q24 region, were associated with PCa in our population.rs10505474 (A) was associated with PCa ($OR_{recessive}=1.56$, p=0.006); and rs7837328 (A) was associated with PCa ($OR_{dominant}=1.38$, p=0.042/$OR_{recessive}=1.99$, p=0.003). Moreover, we observed a cumulative effects between them ($p_{trend}=2.58{\times}10^{-5}$). The joint population attributable risk showed the two variants might account for 71.85% of PCa risk. In addition, we found the homozygotes of rs10505474 (A) and rs7837328 (A) were associated with PCa clinical covariants (age at onset, tumor stage, respectively) ($p_{age}=0.046$, $P_{tumorstage}=0.048$). Conclusion: rs10505474 (A) and rs7387328 (A) at 8q24 are associated with PCa and cumulatively confer risk, suggesting the two variations could determine susceptibility to PCa in the Northern Chinese Han population.

Recently, there has been a growing body of evidence showing that cellular microRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in virus-host interactions. Numerous studies have focused on analyses of the expression profiles of cellular miRNAs, but the expression patterns of Dicer, which is responsible for the generation of miRNAs, have only rarely been explored in Gallus gallus. We developed a duplex realtime reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RTPCR) assay for the relative quantification of the mRNAs of Dicer and β-actin in G. gallus. To apply this method, the expression of Dicer in avian cells after infection with avian leukosis virus subgroup J (ALV-J) was detected using our established duplex real-time RT-PCR. The duplex realtime RT-PCR assay is sufficiently sensitive, specific, accurate, reproducible, and cost-effective for the detection of Dicer in G. gallus. Furthermore, this study, for the first time, demonstrated that ALV-J can induce differential expression of Dicer mRNA in the ALV-J-infected cells.
Anisotropic Characteristic of Irregular Columnar-jointed Rock Mass Based on Physical Model Test
Zhinan Lin,Weiya Xu,Huanling Wang,Jiuchang Zhang,Wang Wei,Rubin Wang,Hua Ji 대한토목학회 2017 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.21 No.5
Columnar joint is a special geological structure with self-organized joint network which separates the rock into an assemblage of blocks. The mechanic characteristics of irregular columnar-jointed rock mass (ICJRM) are dependent not only on the intact rock material but also on unique types of columnar joints. In effort to understand the anisotropic mechanic characteristics of ICJRM by the inherent anisotropic nature of the jointed structure, we conducted a series of uniaxial compression tests. Experiments were performed on an artificial ICJRM of 50 mm in diameter and 100 mm high. The “intact material” consisted of cement mortar and the columnar joints of photosensitive resins. The columnar joint in the specimen was made into six different orientations: 0°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75°, and 90°, respectively, so observe the deformation behavior and failure modes of ICJRM with different various angles between the loading orientation and columnar joint were observed. Based on the analysis of the test results, the uniaxial compression strength and elastic modulus of ICJRM showed strong anisotropic behavior along with a special “U” shape in response to the angle between the loading orientation and columnar joint. Furthermore, the failure modes of ICJRM was observed.

The strength behavior and deformation modulus of columnar jointed rock mass have been investigated by conducting a series of uniaxial compressive tests, along with consideration of columnar joint effect. The tests have been performed on the artificial physical model samples, incorporating different angles β (which was the between the loading direction and axial direction of the columns) and heights of specimen. Columnar joint is a special geological structure with self-organized joint network which separates the rock into an assemblage of blocks. Due to the special joint network, the anisotropic characteristics of columnar joint rock mass is very remarkable. The physical model consisted of “intact rock” and “jointed filler”, replaced by cement mortar and white cement, respectively. The angle β were set to 0°, 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75° and 90°, respectively, and the heights of specimen were set to five different values. Through the test, failure strength and failure modes of columnar joint rock mass with different angles β were observed. Based on the analysis of the test results, the uniaxial compression strength and average modulus of columnar joint rock mass showed strong anisotropy, showing a special “U” shape in terms of loading orientation. The size effect of columnar jointed rock mass was very typical, and the failure mode of columnar joint rock mass were analyzed. Furthermore, the relationship between failure strength and joint factor was studied.

Background: Medical staff may have difficulties in using conventional medicine to manage symptoms among terminally ill patients, including adverse effects of the treatment. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is regarded as a complementary or alternative medicine, and has been increasingly used in the field of palliative medicine in recent years. This study aimed to investigate the experiences of and attitudes toward using TCM among palliative care professionals, and to provide preliminary information about its use in palliative care. Methods: This was a cross-sectional survey study conducted in eight inpatient hospice wards in Taiwan between December 2014 and February 2016. The questionnaire was self-administered, and was analyzed with descriptive statistics including Pearson’s Chi-square test and Fisher’s exact test. Results: A total of 251 palliative care professionals responded to the questionnaire, of whom 89.7% and 88.9% believed that the use of TCM could improve the physical symptoms and quality of life in terminally ill patients, respectively. Overall, 59.8%, of respondents suggested that TCM had rare side effects, and 58.2% were worried that TCM could affect the liver and kidney function of patients. In total, 89.7% and 88.0% of professionals agreed there were no suitable clinical practice guidelines and educational programs, respectively, for TCM use in palliative care. Conclusions: Most of the respondents agreed there was insufficient knowledge, skills-training, and continuing education on the use of TCM in terminally ill patients in Taiwan. These results show that to address patient safety considerations, guidelines about use of TCM in palliative care should be established.

<P>We present 10. R-band photometric observations of eight different transits of the hot Jupiter HAT-P-33b, which has been targeted by our Transiting Exoplanet Monitoring Project. The data were obtained by two telescopes at the Xinglong Station of National Astronomical Observatories of China (NAOC) from 2013 December through 2016 January, and exhibit photometric scatter of 1.6-3.0 mmag. After jointly analyzing the previously published photometric data, radial-velocity (RV) measurements, and our new light curves, we revisit the system parameters and orbital ephemeris for the HAT-P-33b system. Our results are consistent with the published values except for the planet to. star radius ratio (RP/R-*), the ingress/egress duration (tau) and the total duration (T-14), which together indicate a slightly shallower and shorter transit shape. Our results are based on more complete light curves, whereas the previously published work had only one complete transit light curve. No significant anomalies in Transit Timing Variations (TTVs) are found, and we place upper mass limits on potential perturbers, largely supplanting the loose constraints provided by the extant RV data. The TTV limits are stronger near mean-motion resonances, especially for the low-order commensurabilities. We can exclude the existence of a perturber with mass larger than 0.6, 0.3, 0.5, 0.5, and 0.3 M-circle plus near the 1: 3, 1: 2, 2: 3, 3: 2, and 2: 1 resonances, respectively.</P>

In this work, pulsed laser cleaning was conducted on 5083 aluminum alloy plates for removing the oxide film and improving the surface quality. The chroma was innovatively introduced to evaluate the surface quality of cleaned samples. Samples with good cleaning quality were successfully achieved by means of process optimization involving single factor and orthogonal laser cleaning tests. The optimum cleaning parameters for desirable effect consisted mainly of average power of 40 W, scanning speed of 2500 mm/s and repetitive frequency of 85 kHz. On this basis, a well-formed welded joint can be obtained because of the removal of the oxide film on the surface of aluminum alloy. It has been found that the maximum stress and strain of joints subjected to laser cleaning were up to 102.5 % and 114.81 % of joints laser welded in the absence of laser cleaning, respectively. Significant improvement in mechanical strength was mainly attributable to effective suppression of porosities in welds on account of the removal of oxides with the assist of pulsed laser cleaning.
