Four compounds containing two 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-yloxyl radicals were synthesized. They are all chemically bonded with squaric moieties. The diradical compounds show fundamentally the paramagnetic behaviors satisfying the theoretical magnetic susceptibility according to Curie's law. A diradical compound of salf-form 4 however shows a relatively strong antiferromagnetic interaction in comparison with other reported organic radicals. The antiferromagnetic interaction of diradical 4 approximates a value of J/k= -50 K by the theoretical analysis of its temperature dependence.

The purpose of this study was to determine which spatiotemporal gait parameters obtained during hemiplegic walking could be a predictive factor for the Timed Up and Go test (TUG). Two hundreds nine subjects who had suffered a stroke were recruited for this study. They were participated in two assessments; the TUG test and gait analysis. The relationship between the TUG test and spatiotemporal parameters was analyzed using Pearson’s correlation coefficients. In addition, to predict the spatiotemporal gait parameters that correlated most with the TUG scores, we used multiple linear regression analyses (stepwise method). The results show that the normalized velocity was strongly correlated with the TUG performance (r=-.72, p<.001). Additionally, single support percentage (SSP), double support percentage (DSP), step time difference (STD), and step length difference (SLD) significantly were correlated with the TUG test. Normalized velocity, STD, DSP of affected side, and SSP of non-affected side explained 53%, 8%, 3%, 2%, of variance in the TUG test respectively. In conclusion, an increase in gait velocity and a decrease in STD would be effective indicators of improvement on the functional mobility in the stroke rehabilitation.

Background: Cafe-au-lait macules (CALMs) are benign cutaneous hyperpigmentary disorders. Usually, laser therapies for cosmetic concerns result in more severe side effects in the people of Asian descent than that of Caucasians. Unfortunately, there is no gold standard for the laser treatment of CALMs in skin of people of Asian descent. Objectives: To investigate the efficacy and safety of a high fluence 1064-nm Q-switched neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser treatment of CALMs in Asian patients. Methods: The medical records of thirty-five Korean patients (age range: 1 to 40 years old, mean age : 18.5 years) diagnosed with isolated CALMs were reviewed retrospectively. The patients were treated with a 1064-nm Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. The parameters were a spot size of 7 mm, a fluence of 2.2-2.4 J/cm2 with a slow single sliding-stacking pass, and a pulse rate of 10Hz with a one-week interval for 20-50 sessions. Results: At the week of the final treatment, all treated CALMs showed considerable pigmentation removal without any permanent side effects, such as scaring, mottled hypopigmentation, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). All treated CALMs showed more than 50% clinical improvement. No recurrence was observed in any of the patients after 12 months of follow up. Conclusion: A high fluence 1064-nm Q-switched Nd:YAG laser treatment of CALMs in Asian patients is a safe and effective method without side effects and recurrence.

Recently, there is a variety of health-care device and mobile phone applications were developed. However, application of health-care service is limited and the lack of reliability is a problem as well. Objectives: We considered the people’s needs of skin-health care mobile application and checked their intentional use of the application. Methods: 87 who were diagnosed as atopic dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis and acne (26:29:32) in the dermatologic clinic were enrolled in the questionnaire survey,including items such as skin health care awareness and recognition, skin care type, and the intention of using skin health care mobile services. Results: 88% of respondent answered that they usually obtain information on skin problem through internet, while only 8% used mobile application. 62% answered that they have interest in the usage of new mobile application. The most common question people have was the cause of skin problem which accounted for 64.4%. Respondents assume the food/dietary habit as the main cause of skin problem (31%). They considered moist and elasticity of skin as top priority for good skin(48.3%). Conclusion: We could gathered data of skin health care mobile service with regards to consumers needs through this survey.Mobile health application might be supportive tool for the patients and dermatologist to prevent and educational purpose.
