Nanocomposites (NCs) based on Soluplus (SP) were fabricated by an electrohydrodynamic (EHD) method for the oral delivery of Angelica gigas Nakai (AGN). Nano-sized particles were obtained after dispersing the resultant, produced by the EHD technique, in the aqueous environment. AGN/SP2 (AGN:SP=1:2, w/w) NC dispersion in aqueous media exhibited a 130nm mean diameter, narrow size distribution, and robust stability in the tested concentration range of the ethanol extract of AGN (AGN EtOH ext) and at pH 1.2 and 6.8. Amorphization of the components of AGN and their interactions with SP in the AGN/SP2 NC formulation were demonstrated by X-ray diffractometry (XRD) analysis. The released amounts of decursin (D) and decursinol angelate (DA), major components of AGN, from NCs were improved compared with those from the AGN EtOH ext group at both pH 1.2 and 6.8. As D and DA can be metabolized into decursinol (DOH) in the liver after oral administration, the DOH concentrations in plasma were quantitatively determined to evaluate the oral absorption of AGN. In a pharmacokinetic study in rats, higher oral absorption and the maximum concentration in plasma (C<SUB>max</SUB>) were presented in the AGN/SP2 NC group compared with the AGN EtOH ext and AGN NC groups. These findings indicate the successful application of developed SP-based NCs for the oral delivery of AGN.
Probiotic properties of Weissella strains isolated from human faeces

Three Weissella confusa and five Weissella cibaria strains were previously isolated from human faeces and their potential as probiotics was examined in this work. Resistance to low pHs (pH 2.0 and 3.0) and 0.3% bile salt were examined. Enzyme activities, susceptibilities to heat treatment and various antibiotics, and adhesion capacities to Caco-2 cells were also examined. All Weissella strains were killed when exposed to pH 2.0 for 2 h but survived at pH 3.0 with different survival ratios. W. confusa 31 survived best (20.2%) and W. confusa 31 was also quite resistant against 0.3% bile salt (128.8%). All strains except one grew well at temperature between 15 and 45 <SUP>o</SUP>C and all strains grew in the presence of 6.5% NaCl. W. confusa 20 showed the highest β-galactosidase activity (527.3 +/- 23.66 unit/mg protein) and W. cibaria 31 had the highest β-glucosidase activity (115.12 +/- 5.3 unit/mg protein) in MRS broth. All strains adhered to Caco-2 cells better than Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG and W. confusa 20 was the best adhesive strain (85 CFU/cell). These results show that some strains such as W. confusa 31 and W. confusa 20 are fully qualified as probiotics and deserve further application studies.

글로브 밸브(Globe valve)는 유체수송을 위한 각종 배관망에 널리 사용되고 있는 유체 기계의 일종으로 유로부에 대해서 디스크가 수직으로 개폐가 되는 특징을 가지는 특성으로 인해서 압력강하가 많이 발생하는 특징을 가진다. 글로브 밸브에 대한 수치해석적인 연구가 활발하게 이루어지고 있으며 특히 LNG나 수소와 같은 극저온기체의 사용량이 늘어남에 따라 이에 대한 연구도 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 글로브 밸브에 대한 수치해석적인 연구에서 있어 컴퓨터 계산 자원의 한계로 인한 symmetric 경계조건의 사용 여부가 유동해석에 미치는 영향을 분석하여 사용여부의 타당성을 분석하여 향후 밸브 내부 유동에 대한 연구에 기초자료로 활용하고자 한다.
( O / W ) / O 에멀젼형 액막을 이용한 탄화수소 혼합물의 분리

(O/W)/O 에멀젼형 액막을 이용하여 비점이 비슷한 벤젠-싸이클로헥산 혼합물을 분리하였다. 액막 제조 조건이 선택도, 회수율 및 에멀젼 액적의 크기에 주는 영향을 고찰하였으며, 다단 맥동 추출탑을 이용한 연속 추출 실험을 통하여 비정상상태와 정상상태에서의 추출거동을 검토하였다. 추출실험결과 유화 교반 속도 4000rpm, Tween 80 농도 0.4 %, 내유상에 대한 막상의 부피비 0.75, 연속상에 대한 분산상의 부피비 0.5, 투과시간 10 분에서 선택도 및 벤젠의 회수율이 가장 좋았다. 에멀젼 액적의 크기 분포 측정 결과, 교반속도가 커질수록 또는 분산상의 microdrop holdup이 작을수록 분산상 액적의 평균크기가 작았으며, 분산상 microdrop holdup의 영향을 고려한 modified Calabrese의 식을 적용한 결과 turbulence damping constant의 값은 2.28이었다. 연속 추출 실험 결과 탑내 교반속도 300rpm, 맥동 횟수 2times/sec, 연속상 유속 30ml/min, 에먼젼상 유속 12.0ml/min에서 가장 좋은 추출 효과를 얻을 수 있었다. The separation of benzene-cyclohexane mixture using (O/W)/O emulsion liquid membrane was studied. The operating parameters which can affect the selectivity, benzene yield, and emulsion size distribution were examined and determined by the batch type operation. The unsteady state and steady state extraction behavior in continuous pulse stirred reactor(CPSR) were verified. The optimum conditions for benzene selectivity and yield in batch operation were as follows; emulsion mixing intensity 4000 rpm, Tween 80 concentration 0.4%, volume ratio of membrane phase to internal phase 0.75, volume ratio of dispersed phase to continuous phase 0.5, and permeation time 10 minutes, As impeller speed increased and the microdrop holdup decreased, the Sauter mean diameter decreased. Turbulence damping parameter of modified Calabrese correlation considering microdrop holdup was 2.28. The optimum conditions of continuous operation were as follows; agitation speed 300 rpm, pulse frequence 2 times/sec, flow rate of continuous phase 30 ml/min, and flow rate of emulsion phase 12.0 ml/min.
