        As the number of individuals over the age of 60 years continues to rise, determining age-related declines in sensorimotor performance is of increasing importance. This review examines the specific contribution of proprioceptive feedback to sensorimotor performance in older adults. First, a global perspective of proprioceptive acuity is provided on proprioceptive function (e.g. sense of position, motion or dynamic position), and frequently-used-assessment-tool was quantified. Second, the consequences of proprioceptive deficits are established with particular emphasis placed on postural control. Lastly, the potential for plastic changes in the aging proprioceptive system is highlighted, including studies which relate physical activity to enhanced proprioceptive abilities in older adults. 60세 이상 인구의 지속적인 증가로 인해, 노화와 관련된 감각-운동 수행의 변화에 관한 관심이 확대되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 자기수용감각을 중심으로 노화에 따른 감각-운동 수행의 변화에 관하여 살펴보았다. 우선 선행연구에서 제시하고 있는 결과들을 중심으로 노화에 따른 자기수용감각 정밀성의 저하현상을 위치 감각, 운동 감각, 동적위치 감각으로 구분하여 살펴보았으며, 대표적으로 사용되고 있는 연구방법을 살펴보았다. 다음으로 이러한 자기수용감각의 저하현상이 노인의 운동수행에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았으며, 이러한 변화가 나타나게 되는 신경생리적 메카니즘을 고찰하였다. 마지막으로 신체활동 참여를 통해 노인의 자기수용감각 능력을 유지 또는 향상시킬 수 있는 가능성을 탐색하였다.

      • 발달장애아동을 위한 원격 손협응기술 중재의 효과: 단일사례연구

        Purpose: This study aimed to find out the effect of remote intervention using a hand function training application on the hand coordination skills of children with developmental disabilities. Methods: Two children with developmental disabilities were participated in tele-intervention through training application for hand coordination skills. In the remote intervention sessions, the application was applied to be used once a day for 20 minutes. The single case study with ABA’B design was conducted, and it consisted of three phases of tele-intervention and the followed three phases of non-intervention. To confirm the effectiveness of the intervention, a pre and a post evaluation was conducted. In addition, they were instructed to visit the institution every week in order to participate in each 7 evaluations. Results: As a result of a single case study, case 1 showed that the shortened duration of flip and total duration and the increased number of correct answers as remote intervention sessions were repeated in the one-handed task and the two-handed task. In Case 2, the duration of flip, total duration and number of correct answers increased in the one-handed task, and the duration of flip, total duration and number of correct answers decreased in the two-handed task. Comparing the pre- and post-intervention results, Case 1 showed improved movement speed and accuracy in the one-handed task and the two-handed task. Case 2 slowed the movement speed and increased accuracy in the one-handed task. In the two-handed task, the speed of movement increased and accuracy decreased. Conclusion: This study is meaningful in that it developed a hand coordination training program that can be conducted remotely at home using ICT technology and applied it to children with developmental disabilities, and it is expected that it will be used in clinical practice as a remote delivery model in the future.

        Fermented Laminaria japonica improves working memory and antioxidant defense mechanism in healthy adults: a randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled clinical study

        A randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled clinical study was used to determine the cognitive functions related to working memory (WM) and antioxidant properties of fermented Laminaria japonica (FLJ) on healthy volunteers. Eighty participants were divided into a placebo group (n = 40) and FLJ group (n = 40) that received FLJ (1.5 g/day) for 6 weeks. Memory-related blood indices (brain-derived neurotrophic factor, BDNF; angiotensin-converting enzyme; human growth hormone, HGH; insulin-like growth factor-1, IGF-1) and antioxidant function-related indices (catalase, CAT; malondialdehyde, MDA; 8-oxo-2’-deoxyguanosine, 8-oxo-dG; thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, TBARS) were determined before and after the trial. In addition, standardized cognitive tests were conducted using the Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Batteries. Furthermore, the Korean Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (K-WAIS)-IV, and the Korean version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (Mo- CA-K) were used to assess the pre and post intake changes on WM-related properties. According to the results, FLJ significantly increased the level of CAT, BDNF, HGH, and IGF-1. FLJ reduced the level of TBARS, MDA, and 8-oxo-dG in serum. Furthermore, FLJ improved physical activities related to cognitive functions such as K-WAIS-IV, MoCA-K, Paired Associates Learning, and Spatial Working Memory compared to the placebo group. Our results suggest that FLJ is a potential candidate to develop functional materials reflecting its capability to induce antioxidant mechanisms together with WM-related indices.

        Background : A definition of granuloma is a focal chronic inflammatory response to tissue injury evolved by a poorly soluble substwice characterized by the accumulation and proliferation of the mono-nuclear histiocytic cells. The accuracy with which rnononuclear cells may be identified in skir. is much improved by the use of both heteroantisera and monoclonal antibodies directed against selected cellular antigens, Objective : Our purpose was to examine the staining patterns of anti-lysozyme, anti-a-1-antitrypsin, anti-S-100 protein antibodies, and MAC-387 monoclonal anibody in granulomatous skin diseases. Method : We performed imminoperoxidase staining(the labelled str prvidin-biotin peroxidase complex method on the formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue specimens of granulomatous skin diseases. Results : S-100 protein positive dendritic cells were demonstrated in the granulomatous infiltrates as scattered pattern and MAC-387 positive cells were predominantly found in the center of granulomas, The staining pattern and percentage of positively stained cells of a--antitrypsin were similar to those of lysozyme. A1Pha-1-antitrypsin and lysozyme positive cells w re present in the center as well as lymphohistiocytic infiltrates of granulomas. Conclusion : These data sugget that histiocytes are composed of heter igeneous groups of cells such as the mononuclear-phagocyte system and dendritic cell system. (Kor J Dermatol 1993;31(5):702-712)

      • 태블릿 기반으로 개발된 시지각 평가도구에 대한 체계적 고찰

        Results: A total of 238 articles were retrieved by keyword searching through the database, and 9 articles were finally selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The subjects were normal adults, typically developing children, children with autism spectrum disorders, dyslexia, literate children and literate adults, and older adults with cognitive impairment and dementia. Four studies were based on a sample size of 100 or more, and 5 were based on a sample size of 100 or less. 3 studies were evaluated by drawing figures on the tablet, and other Three studies were evaluated by touching the tablet with a finger. Two papers were evaluated by writing using a pen on a tablet, and the last paper was evaluated by a mixed method including drawing, writing, and touching. Conclusions: Tablet-based visual perception evaluation has the advantage to obtain and analyze abundant information for visual perception by collecting data on a digital basis. It is expected that a valid and reliable digital-based evaluation will be developed in the future and can be used in clinical practice.

        양측성 재활운동이 만성 뇌졸중 노인의 상지운동기능 회복에 미치는 영향

        본 연구의 목적은 양측성 재활운동프로그램을 통한 상지기능의 향상 정도를 운동기능 평가와 운동학적 측정을 통해 규명하는 것이다. 19명의 만성 뇌졸중 환자가 연구에 참여하였으며, 양측성 재활운동 그룹과 단측성 재활운동 그룹으로 무선할당하여 12주간의 재활운동을 실시하였다. 재활운동 프로토콜은 T-바 밀고 당기기, 손목 들어올리기, 암-컬(arm-curl), 전완 비틀기, 손가락 사다리의 5가지 세부 운동방법으로 구성되며, 양측성 재활운동 그룹은 각각의 운동과제를 수행할 때 환측 상지와 정상측 상지를 동시에 같은 방향으로 움직이도록 하였다. 단측성 재활운동 그룹은 운동과제를 환측 상지만을 사용하여 수행하였다. 훈련그룹에 따른 재활운동참여 효과를 비교하기 위하여, Fugl-Meyer Assessment, Box and Block Test, 그리고 3차원 영상 분석을 사용하였다. FMA와 BBT는 환측 상지의 기능적 움직임을 평가하기 위해 사용되었으며, QUALISYS 3차원 영상분석 시스템은 뻗기 동작 수행시 환측 상지의 운동학적 변인을 측정하기 위해 사용되었다. 연구결과 모든 그룹에서 재활운동참여를 통해 FMA 점수와 BBT 점수가 유의하게 향상되었으며, 운동시간과 저크코스트는 유의하게 감소되었다. 또한 양측성 재활운동 그룹의 경우 단측성 재활운동 그룹에 비해 저크코스트에서 더 큰 감소를 보였다. 이러한 결과를 통해 재활운동참여의 긍정적 효과와 양측성 재활운동프로토콜의 유용성을 확인 할 수 있었다. This study compared the functional and kinematical changes associated with two rehabilitation protocols: unilateral and bilateral movement training. 19 chronic stroke patients were randomly assigned to the two training protocols with 12 weeks training sessions. Each session consisted of 5 sub-training tasks: T-bar sliding, Wrist curl, Arm curl, Forearm twist, and Finger ladder. The tasks were performed with both impaired and unimpaired arm moving synchronously (bilateral training) or with only the impaired arm moving (unilateral training). To compare the changes associated with rehabilitation protocols, we performed functional and kinematical assessments before and after the interventions. The functional states of the patients were measured by Fugl-Meyer Assessment, Box and Block Test, and the kinematic variables were assessed by 3 Dimensional Motion Analysis. Fugl-meyer Assessment and Box and Block Test were used for the assessment of functional abilities of the affected upper limb. Kinematic measurements of the upper limb movements were measured by QUALISYS 3-dimensional motion analysis system during patients were performing reaching-for-targets tasks. The results of this study are as following. First, FMA and BBT scores were significantly improved with movement training protocol, and there was no significant difference between two groups. Second, Kinematic measurement showed that the movement trajectory of affected arm became smoother for the bilateral movement training group. In conclusion, there were behaviorally and kinemamatically positive changes after rehabilitative training in both groups, but the more significant improvement was shown in the bilateral group.

        Associations of Step Volume and Intensity with Metabolic Syndrome among Korean Adults: A Cross-sectional Observational Study

        Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the association between step volume and intensity with the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) in Korean adults. Methods: The study analyzed 2,038 adults from the 2014 to 2017 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, defining MS based on waist circumference, blood pressure, triglycerides, glucose, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterols. Step volume and intensity were calculated using average number of steps per day and peak 30-minute cadence, respectively. Logistic regression analysis was used to calculate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of MS by tertiles of step volume and intensity. A joint analysis was conducted to examine the combined association between step volume and intensity with the prevalence of MS. We divided the participants into nine groups according to their step volume (tertiles) and intensity (tertiles). Results: There were 478 MS cases. Compared to the lowest tertile of volume, the ORs of MS were 1.06 (95% CI, 0.79–1.42) and 0.64 (95% CI, 0.47–0.88) in the middle and highest tertile of volume. Compared to the lowest tertile of intensity, the ORs were 1.02 (95% CI, 0.76–1.36) and 0.74 (95% CI, 0.55–1.01) in the middle and highest tertile of intensity. In the joint analysis, compared to the group with both lowest volume and intensity, the ORs were significantly lower in all groups with the highest volume, except the group with the lowest intensity. Conclusion: Although only greater step volume, not intensity, was independently related to MS, both step volume and intensity appear to be important for preventing MS.
