Narayanan Janakiraman,Marimuthu Johnson 사단법인약침학회 2016 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.9 No.3
Cancer is the cause of more than 6 million deaths worldwide every year. For centuries, medicinal plants have been used in the treatment of cancer. Chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery and acupuncture point stimulation are also used to treat cancer. The present study was intended to reveal the cytotoxic and anticancer potential of selected Cyathea species and to highlight their importance in the pharmaceutical industry for the development of cost-effective drugs. Cytotoxic studies using brine shrimp lethality bioassays and MCF 7 cell line cultures were carried out. Compared to petroleum ether, chloroform and acetone extracts, the ethanol extracts of selected Cyathea species were found to be more effective against brine shrimps. The ethanol extracts were further subjected to 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) cell proliferation assays. A decrease in cell viability and an increase in growth inhibition were observed for the MCF 7 cell line. The maximum percentage of cell inhibition was observed in Cyathea crinit, followed by Cyathea nilgirensis and Cyathea gigantea. The results of the present study suggest that Cyathea species are an effective source of cytotoxic compounds.
Analytical model of shape memory alloy embedded smart beam, under actuated condition
Jagadeesh Veeraragu,Yuvaraja Mani,Janakiraman M. 국제구조공학회 2021 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.27 No.6
Vibration characteristics of actuated Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) embedded smart composite beam are studied and it is extended to reduce the impact of resonance in cantilever beams. Smart composite beam with SMA embedded at neutral layer is studied for its vibrational characteristics under martensite and austenite conditions. The smart beam is developed as a analytical model incorporating the change in Young's modulus and damping factor under martensite and austenite conditions of SMA. The variation of natural frequency and damping are evaluated and verified with experimentation at different volume fraction of SMA. The thermo elastic nature of SMA and GFRP incorporated in the numerical model depicts the shift in natural frequency of 10% and reduction in magnification factor of 50% under actuation conditions. The frequency response of the smart beam depicts the capability of SMA in active vibration control and improvement of the structural health of composite beam. The thermo mechanical analytical model derived can be utilized to optimize the volume fraction of SMA to be embedded. The study can be extended to optimize actuation current to minimize the effect of resonance.
Autotransplantation: A biological treatment alternative for a patient after traumatic dental injury
Meenakshi Vishwanath,Nandakumar Janakiraman,Hamed Vaziri,Ravindra Nanda,Flavio Uribe 대한치과교정학회 2018 대한치과교정학회지 Vol.48 No.2
Traumatic dental injury is considered a public dental health problem because of a high childhood incidence, high treatment costs, and prolonged treatment time. Although management guidelines for traumatized teeth have been outlined, tooth loss following trauma is occasionally unavoidable. Here, we describe the successful interdisciplinary management of a traumatized central incisor in an 11-year old boy that was extracted because of a poor prognosis and restored by the autotransplantation of an immature donor tooth into the site. The patient underwent orthodontic treatment in order to close the donor site space and bring the autotransplanted tooth to an ideal position. Postorthodontic treatment radiographs and photographs revealed an esthetic and functional natural tooth replacing the lost tooth. The findings from this case suggest that autotransplantation offers unique advantages as a treatment modality for the restoration of missing teeth, particularly in growing children.

Hyaluronic acid finds its complete application in areas such as therapeutics, cosmetics, and as a health supplement. In the present investigation, standardization for the production of hyaluronic acid by Streptococcus equisimilus MK156140 in complex media was performed. Some of the selected physicochemical parameters such as pH, temperature, speed, incubation time, sucrose, yeast extract, and beef extract were screened using Plackett-Burman foldover design. Further, the screened parameters interaction was investigated using central composite design (CCD) and closely compared with OVAT studies. At a pH of 7.38, with beef extract, 12.15%, and yeast extract 7.64%, the observed yield was 7.16 g/L, which was in close line with the predicted value of 7.21 g/L.
Mitigation of Voltage Sag and Swell Using Direct Converters with Minimum Switch Count
Abdul Rahman Syed Abuthahir,Somasundaram Periasamy,Janakiraman Panapakkam Arumuga 전력전자학회 2014 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.14 No.6
A new simplified topology for a dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) based on direct converter with a reduced number of switches is presented. The direct converter is fabricated using only three bi-directional controlled switches. The direct converter is connected between the grid and center-tapped series transformer. The center-tapped series transformer is used to inject the compensating voltage synthesized by the direct converter. The DVR can properly compensate for long-duration, balanced, and unbalanced voltage sag and swell by taking power from the grid. The switches are driven by ordinary pulse width modulation signals. Simulation and hardware results validate the idea that the proposed topology can mitigate sag of 50% and swell of unlimited quantity.
