Opioid-induced hyperalgesia is characterized by an increased pain response to noxious stimuli despite increased use of opioid medications. Here, we report the case of a 43-year-old woman diagnosed with post-laminectomy syndrome who presented with an increasing pain score following a morphine infusion via an implanted intrathecal drug delivery device. Her pain improved after reducing opioid doses and the administration of intravenous ketamine infusion therapy. Thus, the early suspicion of opioid-induced hyperalgesia is essential for patients with increasing pain refractory to augmented doses of opioid medications.

Carbohydrates have been known to play biologically important roles such as cell adhension, cell recognition, fertilization and embryogenesis though interactions with proteins. Importantly, these biomolecular interactions are also involved in tumor metastasis and inflammation. In addition, some pathogens infect human though interactions between the pathogenic proteins and human glycans. For example, human influenza virus produce proteins that preferentially adhere to NeuNAcα2,6Gal residues on epithelial cells of the lungs and upper respiratory tract. Some of Helicobacter pyroli which express Leb binding adhesin (BabA) and sialyl Lex-binding adhesin (SabA) recognize the human gastric mucosa expressing these glycans. To detect pathogens as well as mammalian cells, various glycoconjugates, including Lea, Leb, H1, Lex and Ley, were synthesized.

Blood perfusion of skeletal muscle and callus was evaluated using contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) in a canine osteotomy model to determine the applicability of CEUS in the assessment of neovascularization during fracture healing and to compare the vascular signals on CEUS between external skeletal fixation and cast-applied dogs. In 6 Beagle dogs, a simple transverse osteotomy was performed at the left tibial shaft and external skeletal fixation (n = 3) or a cast (n = 3) was applied. Radiography, power Doppler ultrasonography (power Doppler), and CEUS were performed until complete union was achieved. On CEUS, vascular changes were quantitatively evaluated by measuring peak intensity (PI) and time to PI in the soft tissue and callus and by counting the vascular signals. Vascular signals from the soft tissue were detected on power Doppler and CEUS on day 2. Significantly more vascular signals were detected by CEUS than by power Doppler. On CEUS, PI in the surrounding soft tissue was markedly increased after the fracture line appeared indistinctively changed on radiography in all dogs. In the cast-applied dogs, vascular signals from the periosteal and endosteal callus were detected on CEUS before mineralized callus was observed on radiography. CEUS was useful in assessing the vascularity of soft tissue and callus, particularly in indirect fracture healing, and provided indications of a normally healing fracture.

While Webtoons had been considered as the e-Commerce product of comic book, its accessibility and readability elaborate its creativity which enables this industry as the key player for OSMU(One Source Multi Use). The business model of Webtoons industry follows mixed approach between the internet portal business and traditional printing business. The freely provided contents are depending on the advertisement and the contents which had been verified its value try to charge for the subscription. OSMU is the additional source of profit for this business, and the revenue has been generated through reformatting its contents into movies, TV drama, and various performance. The successful reformatted contents also positively influence on the intangible asset of original contents. It could be the chance for the webtoons company to enlarge the subscriber base and sell the advertisement based on the popularity. This study focus on the benefit of original contents provider by suggesting the recommendable OSMU strategy. We build and analyze a three-step model about OSMU (One Source Multi Use) in perspective of webtoon. Results show that profit from advertising increases as the webtoon quality increases and additional profit occurs only if the webtoon quality is optimally selected. Implications based on research results and recommendation for the future research agenda had been added at the end.
