Transcatheter Arterial Embolization for Palliation of Uterine Body Cancer Bleeding
Jaeyeon Choi,Ji Hoon Shin,Hee Ho Chu 대한영상의학회 2023 대한영상의학회지 Vol.84 No.3
Purpose This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) for bleeding due to uterine body cancer. Materials and Methods In this retrospective study, six patients with varying types of uterine body cancer who underwent TAE for bleeding control were investigated. Angiographic findings, cross-sectional images, TAE details, and clinical outcomes were studied. Technical and clinical success rates were calculated. Results The identified patients had endometrioid adenocarcinoma, sarcoma, and gestational trophoblastic neoplasia, and most were patients with advanced-stage cancer. In four patients, tumor bleeding presented as vaginal bleeding. Technical success was achieved in all seven TAE procedures in six patients. Two patients with recurrent masses who had undergone hysterectomy presented with hematochezia, and TAE was able to provide technical success in these patients as well. The clinical success rate was 50%, indicating bleeding control for > 1 week. Rebleeding was directly associated with death in one patient. On the following day, mild fever was observed in one patient. Conclusion TAE can be considered an effective and safe method of bleeding control for uterine body cancer, especially during critical periods throughout the disease course of patients with inoperable, advanced-stage cancer.

Short alpha/beta-peptides that consist of alternating L-a-amino acids and trans-2-aminocyclopentanecarboxylic acid are known to adopt both 11- and 14/15-helical conformations in solution. We report short alpha/beta-depsipeptides containing (S)-lactic acid as the third residue from the N-terminus. The alpha/beta-depsipeptide pentamers and heptamers adopt 14/15-helical conformations analogous to the a-helix in the crystal state and display 14/15-helical conformations predominantly in solution.

Purpose: In this study, the defect quantification of thin metal plate was evaluated by using lock-in infrared thermography. Methods: A STS304 standard specimens, which had the artificial-defects of different size, were used. The focal distance between the infrared camera and the specimen was set to 500mm, and the distance between the lump and the specimen was set to 200mm. One halogen lamp with a maximum capacity of 1kW was used, and phase-lock infrared thermal images with a frequency of 1Hz were captured and analyzed. Result: Objectively quantified data values were obtained by analyzing the contrast ratio and signal-to-noise ratio. Conclusion: The possibility of defect diagnosis for thin metal plate was confirmed by using the lock-in infrared thermography technique.
Temporal changes of Korean cicada in relation to meteorological factors
Jaeyeon Kang,Heejo Lee,Youngdon Ju,Bosun Park,Noori Choi,Pureum Noh,Eunok lee,Gilsang Jeong 한국응용곤충학회 2016 한국응용곤충학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2016 No.04
In every summer, cicadas emerge and become numerically and ecologically dominant in Korean penninsula. Especially, cicada emergence is affected by the environmental factors. In order to evaluate the effect of environmental factors in cicada species, we analyzed the temporal changes in cicada exuviae based on meteorological and non-meteorological factors such as artificial light intensity and habitat characters on urban park area surrounded by residential houses. Combined multivariate analyses with a cluster analysis and a principal component analysis (PCA) were conducted. Samples were classified into 3 different cluster based on differences of meteorological factors such as temperature and humidity. Moreover, Random Forest model (RF) showed a high predictability of daily mean temperature on species peak abundance. These results provide a strong evidence that meteorological factors have significant effects on cicada emergences. Regarding the non-meteorological factors, we found no relationship in cicada emergence.

Preoperative evaluations of the tumor size in breast cancer are essential for obtaining negative margins and performing oncoplastic surgery. Here, the tumor sizes measured using ultrasonography (USG), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and pathology were compared. Patients with a single mass observed using USG who underwent surgery between March 2016 and February 2019 were reviewed. Patients with multiple lesions, positive surgical margins, or had undergone neoadjuvant chemotherapy were excluded. The largest tumor diameter was measured during each examination. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used for statistical analysis to compare concordance in tumor size. Nine hundred and ninety-six patients were analyzed and divided into subgroups according to their menopausal status, MRI features, pathological subtypes, and intrinsic subtypes. In all patients, MRI has higher concordance with the pathological findings than USG. In subgroup analysis, there was a significant difference between the ICC of USG and MRI for the premenopausal, non-mass enhancement (NME), and lobular types. According to the intrinsic subtype analysis, in luminal A and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2) breast cancer, MRI revealed higher ICC values than USG. In triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), USG showed a higher ICC, but the difference between USG and MRI was small. MRI may be more helpful in predicting the tumor size for patients who are premenopausal, have NME, and have lobular cancer. On the other hand, USG is considered more helpful in luminal A and HER-2. Concordance differs depending on the clinicopathological characteristics and should be considered in the surgical plan.
