        This paper describes the weight reduction technology of brushless DC (BLDC) motor with both advanced magnetic powder core instead of Si sheet steel core and copper cladding aluminum (CCA) instead of copper winding. In order to apply the high-density magnetic core for BLDC motor, the warm compaction process with die wall lubrication was used in this work. In general, the density of magnetic core is strongly associated with the core loss. The motor efficiency was improved as the magnetic core density was increased. Results showed that the oil pump motor using the advanced magnetic powder core was decreased about 10% in size and reduced about 10% in weight comparing to the convention motor with Si sheet steel core. Consequently, the motor and oil pump system containing the advanced powder core was satisfied the requirements during the performance and durability test.

      • Grain Boundary Diffusion of La Based Low-melting Alloy to Nd-Fe-B Sintered Magnets

        The high-performance Nd-Fe-B magnets have been widely used in many different applications, such as motors, generators, actuators, hard disk drives, and communication devices, since their discovery in 1894. In order to improve the performance of Nd-Fe-B magnets, grain boundary diffusion process is carried out by using heavy rare-earth element (HRE) such as Dy or Tb. Many efforts have been made to prepare high-performance Dy/Tb diffused Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets. However, these heavy rare-earth elements (Dy, Tb) have a problem that prices and supply are unstable. In this study, we have investigated the magnetic properties of Light rare-earth element (LRE) diffused Nd–Fe–B magnets. The alloys containing less expensive rare-earth element and low-melting metals work effectively as diffusion sources. Metals or compounds with low melting points can modify boundary structure by improving the wettability between intergranular phases and matrix phases. La based alloys effectively diffused along grain boundary phases and formed non-ferromagnetic phases, improving exchange decoupling and enhancing the coercivity. In order to analyze the microstructures, we use scanning electron microscopy. It is expected to provide solutions for cost reduction of GBDP and NdFeB magnets production by saving rare-earth resource. (See text for figure)

        Intravitreal Tanibirumab, a Fully Human Monoclonal Antibody Against Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor 2, Partially Suppresses and Regresses Laser-Induced Choroidal Neovascularization in a Rat Model

        <P>Purpose: The study investigated the effect of intravitreally administered tanibirumab, a fully human monoclonal antibody against vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2, in a rat model of laser-induced choroidal neovascularization (CNV). Methods: CNV was induced by laser photocoagulation on day 0 in the eyes of Brown Norway rats. Intravitreal injection of tanibirumab or phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) was done on day 0 (prevention arm) or day 7 (treatment arm). Seven days after injection, the eyes were enucleated and retinal pigment epithelium-choroid-sclera flat mounts were prepared. Areas of CNV were determined in the flat mounts using tetramethylrhodamine isothiocyanate Bandeiraea simplicifolia (BS) isolectin labeling and intravenously administered fluorescein isothiocyanate-dextran and quantified using an image analysis program. Results: In the prevention arm, the mean area of CNV measured by BS isolectin labeling was reduced by 28.2% and 53.9% in tanibirumab-treated eyes (20 and 60 mu g, respectively) compared with PBS-treated control eyes on day 7 (P=0.038 and P<0.001, respectively). In the treatment arm, the mean area of CNV measured by BS isolectin labeling was reduced by 28.7% and 46.0% in tanibirumab-treated eyes (20 and 60 mu g, respectively) compared with PBS-treated control eyes on day 14 (P=0.048 and P<0.001, respectively). Conclusions: Intravitreally administered tanibirumab partially suppressed the formation of new CNV and partially regressed preformed laser-induced CNV in the rat model. Tanibirumab may be a feasible treatment for CNV associated with age-related macular degeneration or other causes.</P>

        유휴산업시설의 장소자산화를 통한 도시브랜딩 전략

        (Background and purpose) Amid contemporary rapid globalization, the city’s economic competition has led to an expansion of the tourism industry, making the “place” a center of consumption, and in terms of the city’s competitiveness, it has become an asset component of the attractive urban brand. In particular, idle industrial facilities used in the previous era have emerged as urban problems in the era of environmental degradation and climate change, which have been required to be transformed into competitive place assets. To become a meaningful urban brand, as a place asset, it must be built on the basis of the value understanding of urban customers living and experiencing the city and be branded as a continuous management. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to present a strategic urban branding study centered on urban customers through place assetization by extracting value factors for place assetization of idle industrial facilities. (Method) This study extracted the value factors of place assetization of idle industrial facilities through prior studies, and derived the strategic urban branding directions of urban customer-centeredness through theoretical consideration. Based on this, the analysis model (proposal) was presented and quantitative and qualitative analysis was conducted. Further, expert evaluation was conducted to verify the analysis. Six of the representative sites that have been regenerated within past 20 years were analyzed for each type of idle industrial facilities, including in London, New York, and Paris, which are the top countries in the global urban competitiveness rankings, Copenhagen, which is ranked in the middle, and Seoul and Busan, the nation’s largest cities. (Results) The main value factors of the assetization of idle industrial facilities were contextuality, positivity, novelty, and topics from a constructive perspective, and the strategic urban branding characteristics centered on the needs of urban customers were analyzed in three aspects: formation of residential affection value, management of tourist experience value, and enhancement of business investment value. As a result, it was analyzed that the degree of reflection of the constructive and managerial value factors of the place assetization of idle industrial facilities affects urban branding. (Conclusions) Idle industrial facilities have potential as urban brands with unique context and accumulated human activities, and through place assetization, can be converted into sufficient resources for urban competitiveness. The study intended to clarify that the place assetization of idle industrial facilities would be a means to establish an exclusive brand and induce pride and loyalty from urban customers. Through this study, we hope that the location assetization of idle industrial facilities will be recognized as an important strategy to improve urban competitiveness and serve as basic data for the active attempt of urban branding plans in the future.

        국내 유휴공간재생관련 연구 비교분석을 통한 지속가능한 재생 방향 연구 -2000년 이후의 연구를 중심으로-

        (Background and Purpose) Recently, changes in industrial structure have created the problem of idle space in cities, which has been addressed by cultural regeneration, applying the concept of culturenomics (creative convergence of culture and industry). These plans aim to create differentiated value-addition, which not only improves the quality of life of citizens but also revitalizes the region; however, some cases have failed to attract visitors, raising the issue of sustainability. Therefore, this study attempts to understand the direction of sustainable regeneration, which is necessary for idle space regeneration, by quantitatively and qualitatively analyzing the subject, timing, field, contents, and characteristics of domestic papers on idle space regeneration. (method) First, we identify the concept and flow of idle space regeneration through theoretical considerations, and use master's and doctorate papers and various academic journals published in Korea from 2000 to 2019 for quantitative and qualitative comparative analysis. The keywords of the theoretical considerations were 'Idle' (meaning deactivation) and 'Regeneration' (meaning of conversion value). Using this, it selects Flight 169 as the subject of research (using search services such as RISS and Nuri Media DBpia, Korean Academic Information KISS) and conducts quantitative analysis to extract characteristics by topic, field, and time. Second, in the previous quantitative analysis, 57 post-2014, degree papers that show characteristic changes in a particular field are qualitative analyses, which derive the details and characteristics of each type of study. Third, through these quantitative and qualitative comparative analyses, we identify trends in research as the times change and derive key elements for each type of research to understand the direction of future idle space regeneration. (Results) First, domestic research on idle space regeneration over the past 20 years has accounted for more than 70% of the architecture and design sectors, with the number of studies in the design and architecture sectors reversed since 2014, with the most frequent topics being culture and industrial facilities. Second, four types of research, “Operation and Program Studies,” “Spatial Composition Studies,” “Assessment Indicators Studies,” and “Business Studies,” which derive their respective detailed characteristics. Third, empirical research through on-site surveys and statistics of visitors and operators is increasing, breaking away from conceptual research such as literature research and case data analysis. (Conclusions) Currently, the focus of idle space regeneration is on securing sustainability to prevent it from reversion. Therefore, this study reveals the need for a strategic approach based on the user value of renewable space that varies with the times and uses it as basic data for establishing empirical idle space regeneration strategies in the future.

        The Effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on Depressive Symptoms in North Korean Refugees

        Objective Despite the growing need for psychological programs for North Korean refugees, most psychological interventions for these people lack a verification study that tests their effectiveness. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in North Korean refugees.Methods Participants included 38 North Korean refugees, of whom 23 participated in simple relaxation and 15 participated in CBT. The Korean version of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-State (STAI-S), and Impact of Event Scale-Revised were used to evaluate symptoms pre- and post-intervention.Results Participants had a significant decrease in CES-D scores after treatment (p=0.037). The decrease in CES-D was larger in those who participated in the CBT compared to those in simple relaxation (p=0.023). The superior effects that CBT had on depressive symptoms over simple relaxation were particularly more prominent in those with severe depression (p=0.035). Participants with high levels of anxiety also showed significant decreases in STAI-S scores after treatment, regardless of which type of program they participated in (p=0.023).Conclusion This preliminary findings suggests that CBT is an effective psychiatric approach in treating depressive symptoms in North Korean refugees, especially for those with a higher degree of depressive symptom.
