Tamarind (Tamarindus indica L) seed polysaccharide (TSP) is of great important due to its various biological activities. The present investigation was carried out to compare extraction yield, morphological characteristics, average molecular weights and antioxidant activities of TSP from gamma- and electron beam (EB)-irradiated tamarind kernel powder. The tamarind kernel powder was irradiated with 0, 5 and 10kGy by gamma ray (GR) and electron beam, respectively. The extraction yield of TSP was increased significantly by EB and GR irradiation, but there was no significant difference between irradiation types. Morphological studies by scanning electron microscope showed that TSP from GR-irradiated tamarind seed had a fibrous structure, different from that of EB irradiated with a particle structures. The average molecular weight of TSP was decreased by the irradiation, and EB treatment degraded more severely than GR. Superoxide radical scavenging ability and total antioxidant capacity of EB-treated TSP showed higher than those of GR-treated TSP.

The crystal structure of the potential active methyl-3-phenyl-3H-chromeno[4,3-c]isoxazole-3a(4H)- carboxylate (C18H15NO4) has been determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction data. In the title compound crystallizes in the orthorombic space group P212121 with unit cell dimension a=9.8320 (17) Å, b=9.9890 (18) Å and c= 15.588 (3)Å [α=90°, β= 90o and γ= 90o]. In the structure chromene, isoxazole and carboxylate are almost coplanar each other. All geometrical parameters revelled that chromene ring of pyran ring adopt sofa conformation. The crystal packing is stabilized by intermolecular C-H...O and C-H...N hydrogen bond interaction.

초록 The crystal structure of the potential active 3-(4-ethylphenyl)-3H-chromeno[4,3-c] isoxazole-3a(4H)-carbonitrile (C19H16N2O2) has been determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction data. In the title compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with unit cell dimension a=6.6869 (8) Å, b=15.8326 (19) Å and c= 15.237 (2) Å [α=90°, β= 100.663° and γ= 90°]. In the structure chromene, isoxazole and carboxylate are almost coplanar each other. All geometrical parameters revelled that chromene ring of pyran ring adopt sofa conformation. The crystal packing is stabilized by intermolecular C-H...N and C-H...O hydrogen bond interaction.

The crystal structure of the potential active Methyl 8-bromo-3-phenyl-5a,9a-dihydro-3H- chromen [4,3-c][1,2] isoxazole- 3a(4H)- carboxylate (C18H15BrNO4) has been determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction technique. The title compound crystallizes in the triclinic space group Pī with unit cell dimension a=8.3129 (3) Å, b=9.5847 (4) Å and c= 11.1463(4) Å [α= 98.457(3)°, β= 102.806(2)° and γ= 105.033(5)°]. Single crystals suitable for X-ray diffraction were obtained by slow evaporation method, the isoxazole and six membered pyran rings adopts envelope conformation. In the crystal, molecules are linked via pairs of inter molecular C-H…O hydrogen bonds to form dimmers.

The crystal structure of the potential active 6-ethoxy-3-phenyl-5a,9a-dihydro-3H-chromen[4,3 -c][1,2]oxazole-3a(4H)- carbonitrile (C19H15N2O3) has been determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction technique. The title compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c with unit cell dimension a= 29.3026(9) Å, b= 6.7695(2) Å and c= 19.7597(6) Å [α= 90°, β= 125.709 (10)° and γ= 90°]. Single crystals suitable for X-ray diffraction were obtained by slow evaporation method, the isoxazole and six membered pyran rings adopts envelope conformation. The crystal packing of the molecules is stabilized by the weak C-H…N hydrogen bond interaction.

In this article, the tribological properties of aluminum/MWCNTs/Al2O3sf hybrid composites with varying volume fractionof 10 vol%, 15 vol% and 20 vol% was investigated under dry sliding conditions. The experiments were performed accordingto design of experiments approach using Taguchi method to predict the wear properties of composites. The results indicatedthat the composites of 15 vol% had lower wear loss, whereas the coefficient of friction (COF) decreased significantly at 20vol%. Taguchi based ANOVA analysis showed that the sliding distance was found to be the prominent factor controllingthe wear loss; applied load influenced COF most significantly. It could also be noticed that the COF and wear loss increaseswith an increase in sliding load and sliding distance. The decrease in wear loss and the COF can be attributed to the selflubricationeffect of MWCNTs, and the combined effect of reinforcements in the composites. In addition, nanoscratch testwas performed to determine the COF and the effect of the reinforcements on local regions of the composites. The resultsrevealed that higher friction force was obtained near the regions of MWCNTs and Al2O3sfwhile nanoscratching. The COFof composites of 20 vol% was found to slightly higher compared to that of 10 vol% and 15 vol%. This is attributed to thepresence of MWCNTs cluster within the Al2O3sfnetwork results prevent the micro-plastic deformation of Al matrix, and theformation of tribofilms with nanoscaled thickness in the scratch region. These friction and wear results indicate that the presenceof a limited amount and size of MWCNTs clusters are beneficial to the tribological properties of the hybrid composites.
