Factors Impacting on the Supply Chain Collaboration of Vietnamese Furniture Industry

The collaborative supply chain (CSC) concept in Vietnam is quite new. Apart from obvious differences of doing business between Western versus and most of developing countries such as Vietnam, the literature suggests that collaboration in the supply chain (SC) of the furniture industry are quite low. The primary reason for such low adoption rates is low awareness of enterprises. Using Explore Factor Analysis method (EFA) and Regression Analysis method (RA) with primary data collected from 276 furniture companies in Vietnam, this paper explores and confirms that there are existed six basic factors affecting the collaboration in supply chain including: (i) Trust; (ii) Power; (iii) Maturity; (iv) Strategy; (v) Culture; and (vi) Frequency. Results of the research show strong evidences for policy makers and enterprises for management the supply chain collaboration in furniture industry as well as its contribution to literature review of supply chain management.

This study evaluates the efficiency of domestic wastewater treatment via Sponge-Based Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (S-MBBR). The laboratory-based treatment plan uses polyurethane sponge with a specific surface area was 260 ㎡/㎥ as a carrier. The treatment plan operated under four different organic load rate: OLR1 = 0.4 ㎏ BOD/㎥.day; OLR2 = 0.6 ㎏ BOD/㎥.day; OLR3 = 0.8 ㎏ BOD/㎥.day; and OLR4 = 1.0 ㎏ BOD/㎥.day. During 80 d of the experiment, the highest treatment efficiency was at the organic load rate of 0.4 ㎏ BOD/㎥.day, with COD, SS, TN and TP were found to be 85.0 ± 12.9%, 85.7 ± 5.3%, 68.9 ± 1.7%, and 40.3 ± 0.2%, respectively. In which, the influent SS concentration were from 117.3 to 126.0 ㎎/L, the effluent concentration were in ranged 18.0 to 34.22 ㎎/L, respectively. The values of influent and effluent COD were 298.8 ± 12.88 and 44.8 ± 3.78 ㎎/L in turn. The OLR1 influent TN, TP concentrations were respectively 47.9 ± 2.11 and 3.6 ± 0.15 ㎎/L; the effluent TN, TP concentration were 14.9 ± 0.18 and 2.2 ± 0.06 ㎎/L, respectively. The study suggests that the effluent is within the allowable limits of National technical regulation on domestic wastewater (Column B1), indicating the applicability of S-MBBR for the domestic wastewater treatment plant.

This study aims to analyze the livelihood resources and income diversification of informal recyclers in the Mekong River Delta (MRD). The multiple linear regression model was applied to determine income diversification and total household income with the sustainable livelihood analysis framework developed by the United Kingdom Department for International Development (2000), including human resources, physical resources, natural resources, financial resources, and social resources. The results indicated that up to 25% of itinerant waste buyers worked on average more than 7.3 hours/day, which was higher than the urban near-poor level regulated by the Vietnam government. The results of the regression model revealed that total households’ income was affected by the factors of health status, gender, urban location type 1, the amount of potential savings, and informal credit participation, while the factors of health status, urban location, the amount of potential savings, and informal credit participation have the effect of diversifying farm household income. Thus, if the informal waste recycling sector is supported and regulated by proper government management, it will not only help poor households diversify their income, but it will also help poor households diversify their income, particularly women’s income, which is vulnerable and lower than male income in the MRD.

Rice plays an important role in the lives of the people of Vietnam and numerous Asian countries. It contributes not only a major food source, but also export value. Brown plant hoppers (BPHs) are one of the sources of harm in the production of rice and make it weaker and poorly developed. In this study, we present a method to transfer a data simulation from GAMA to DIGIPLANT. We simulated the development of rice plants in a case where they were attacked by BPH in DIGIPLANT software. The scope of this work is to study BPH transmitting yellow dwarf disease to the rice plants. The study has applied methods of modeling like agent-based modeling to the growth and propagation of BPH under the impact of various environments in GAMA. An agriculturist can use the output value from simulating and modeling the growth and propagation of a BPH to provide the levels of influence on the height of rice with yellow dwarf disease infection.
Picolyamine Based pH/Temperature Sensitive Hydrogels

pH/temperature-sensitive hydrogels have attracted increasing attention as drug/protein delivery systems. This study reports a new pH sensitive moiety of picolyamine (PCA) and its pentablock copolymer hydrogels made from triblock PCL-PEG-PCL and picolyamine oligomer (OPCA). The picolyamine monomer (PCAM) was synthesized using the picolyamine and methacryloyl chloride coupling reaction. OPCA was synthesized by conventional radical polymerization from PCAM. The pKa of the pH sensitive moiety, OPCA, was found to be 6.65. The moiety was used to couple with PCL-PEG-PCL to produce the pentablock copolymer, OPCA-PCL-PEG-PCL-OPCA. The sol-gel phase transition of the aqueous solution of this material was affected by the pH and temperature change. In addition,the gel phase region could be controlled by the molecular weight of OPCA, the PCL/PEG ratio and chain length of PEG. This material could be used as an injectable hydrogel for drug/protein delivery.
Ischemic Colitis Presented as Pseudomembranous Colitis: An Untypical Case from Vietnam

Ischemic colitis (IC) is an underreported chronic disease characterized by the hypoperfusion of the bowel mucosa. The diagnosis and treatment may be challenging because its clinical course resembles other colitis or even colorectal malignancies. This paper reports an untypical case to underline the diversity of IC manifestation. A 68-year-old man with several comorbidities was admitted because of abdominal pain with a 6-month duration and a mass in the left lower quadrant. Colonoscopy revealed erosive pseudomembranous colitis narrowed colon segments with ulcerated mucosa mimicking colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. The stool cultures and Clostridium difficile toxin tests were negative. After the failure of conservative therapy, the Hartmann procedure with temporary ileostomy was performed uneventfully. The histological results of the surgical specimens revealed IC with focal pseudomembranous areas.
