        Using Carboxylmethylated Cellulose as Water-Borne Binder to Enhance the Electrochemical Properties of Li<sub>4</sub>Ti<sub>5</sub>O<sub>12</sub>-Based Anodes

        The present work reports a systematic study of using carboxymethylated cellulose (CMC) as water-borne binder to produce $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$-based anodes for manufacture of high rate performance lithium ion batteries. When the LTO-to-CB-to-CMC mass ratio is carefully optimized to be 8:1:0.57, the special capacity of the resulting electrodes is $144mAh{\cdot}g^{-1}$ at 10 C and their capacity retention was 97.7% after 1000 cycles at 1 C and 98.5% after 500 cycles at 5 C, respectively. This rate performance is comparable or even better than that of the electrolytes produced using conventional, organic, polyvinylidene fluoride binder.

        Insect-Proof Nets Affect Paddy Field Microclimate Parameters and Grain Quality of Different Japonica Rice Varieties

        Insect-proof nets (IPN) are widely used to protect crops from invertebrate pests. The effects of IPN on the main microclimate parameters of paddy fields, as well as grain quality, were investigated for three japonica Oryza sativa L. varieties (Nanjing 44, Nanjing 45, and Suxiangjing 3) that are widely grown in China. The environmental temperature of IPN-treated fields increased slightly, whereas the maximum value of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), daily cumulative PAR, and daily cumulative global radiation all decreased. However, the ratio of PAR to global radiation increased significantly, from 15.08 to 45.48%. Compared to the no insect-proof net (NIPN) treatment, the head rice percentage increased significantly for all three varieties; however, the chalky grain percentage, area and degree, and the amylose content all decreased significantly. The response of gel consistency, protein concentration, and the main parameters of the rapid visco analyzer (RVA) profile of rice starch to IPN treatment differed between varieties. The peak viscosity and breakdown were increased compared to the NIPN treatment, whereas the final viscosity and setback were decreased. However, no significant differences were found between the IPN and NIPN treatments. Furthermore, statistical analysis indicated no interaction between rice planting pattern (RPP) and rice variety (RV) for the rice grain quality parameters. These results suggest that IPN treatment improved rice grain quality for all japonica rice varieties studied, possibly due to the slight increase in environmental temperature and increased ratio of PAR to global radiation in IPN treated paddy fields.

        In this paper, three-dimensional (3D) Co3O4 °ower-like microspheres have been successfully synthesized via a facile ethylene glycol (EG)-mediated solvothermal method followed by calcination. The as-prepared °ower-like precursors microspheres are formed from the assembly of 2D nanosheets in the presence of hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The °ower-like architectures of the prepared precursors could be tailored by changing the amount of CTAB. Furthermore, when evaluated as a gas sensor, the obtained Co3O4 °ower-like microspheres exhibit a good response and sensitivity toward ethanol gas, suggesting their promising potential for gas sensors application.

        Mechanical Properties and VOC Emission of Hemp Fibre Reinforced Polypropylene Composites: Natural Freezingmechanical Treatment and Interface Modification

        In this study, the effects of natural freezing-mechanical treatment and interface modification on the mechanicalproperties and VOC emissions of hemp fibre-reinforced polypropylene composites were investigated. To evaluate theinfluence of natural freezing-mechanical treatment on fibres and composites, several tests were performed. Natural freezingmechanicaltreatment of HF enhanced the mechanical properties and reduced the VOC emissions of HF/PP compositescompared with untreated composites. After the degumming treatment, HF was treated with urea and KH-550, and themechanical properties of the modified composites were better than those of the unmodified composites. Compared with thetensile strength, flexural strength and impact strength of the unmodified composites, the mechanical properties of the ureamodifiedcomposites were enhanced by 16.45 %, 17.32 % and 13.23 %, respectively; the mechanical properties of thecomposites modified by the coupling agent KH-550 were increased by 19.53 %, 20.40 % and 11.19 %, respectively. The totalVOC emissions of modified HF/PP composites were lower than those of the unmodified composites. The obtained resultsdemonstrated that natural freezing-mechanical treatment is an effective fibre degumming method. Combined with interfacemodification, the composite has the characteristics of low VOC emissions, high strength, and good interface bonding.

        STAT3, a Poor Survival Predicator, Is Associated with Lymph Node Metastasis from Breast Cancer

        Purpose: The aim of this study is to explore signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) expression in breast cancer and to analyze the detailed mechanism that STAT3 contributes to the progression of breast cancer. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinicopathologic characteristics and overall survival (OS) of 140 breast cancer patients after curative surgery, and detected STAT3 expression, phosphorylated STAT3 (pSTAT3) expression, Ki-67 expression, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-C and -D expression in breast cancer tissues, and adjacent nontumor tissues. Survival analysis and relationship analysis were adopted for demonstrated the important mechanism of STAT3 contribution to progression of breast cancer. Results: STAT3 expression, pSTAT3 expression, Ki-67 expression, VEGF-C expression, and VEGF-D expression in breast cancer tissues were significantly higher than those in adjacent nontumor tissues, respectively. With survival analysis, only number of lymph node metastasis (N stage) was identified as the independent predictors of the OS of breast cancer patients. Besides, we demonstrated there was the most prominent correlation between STAT3 expression and lymph node metastasis in breast cancer tissues by using the multinominal regression method. Conclusion: STAT3, a poor survival biomarker potential association with lymph node metastasis, was suitable for predication the OS of breast cancer patients after curative resection.

        2D Coordination Polymer Derived Co3O4 Nanocrystals as High Performance Anode Material of Lithium-Ion Batteries

        Co3O4 nanocrystals have been synthesized via an ordinary one-step calcination of a cobalt-based 2D coordination polymer [Co(tfbdc)(4,4'-bpy)(H2O)2]. As an anode material for lithium-ion batteries, the obtained Co3O4 nanocrystals exhibit high reversible capacity, excellent cyclic stability and better rate capability. The reversible capacity of the Co3O4 nanocrystals maintains 713mA h g-1 after 50 cycles at a current density of 50mA g-1. Our results confirm that searching for metal oxides nanomaterials used as anode materials of lithium ion batteries via the calcinations of 2D coordination polymer is a new route.

        The Prognostic Value of CD8+ and CD45RO+ T Cells Infiltration and Beclin1 Expression Levels for Early Postoperative Cholangitis of Biliary Atresia Patients after Kasai Operation

        Background: Postoperative cholangitis is a common but severe complication after Kasai portoenterostomy for biliary atresia (BA). This study aimed to identify its prognostic factors Methods: Two sets of liver paraffin-embedded tissue samples were collected from BA patients who received Kasai portoenterostomy (n = 25 and n = 31, respectively). Patients were divided into non-cholangitis and cholangitis groups. The infiltration of CD4+ , CD8+ , CD45RO+ , CD68+ cells and expression of Beclin1 were quantitatively evaluated in immunohistochemical analysis. Results: Cholangitis group had a significantly lower CD8+ T cell infiltration but a higher CD45RO+ cell infiltration, and a lower Beclin1 level than non-cholangitis group (all P < 0.01). Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that infiltration of CD8+ cells (odds ratio [OR], 0.112; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.022–0.577) and CD45RO+ cells (OR, 3.88; 95% CI, 1.37–11.03), and Beclin1 level (OR, 0.088; 95% CI, 0.018–0.452) were independent influence factors for early postoperative cholangitis. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis showed that area under ROC curve (AUROC) values for CD8+ cells, CD45RO+ cells and Beclin1 were 0.857, 0.738 and 0.900, respectively. Conclusion: Our findings demonstrated the CD8+ cells, CD45RO+ cells and Beclin1 level possessed the prognostic value for early postoperative cholangitis following Kasai operation, which may be helpful to develop new prevention and treatment strategies for postoperative cholangitis.
