Pesticides have been an integral part of modern agriculture as their use ensures good harvests. However, excessive use of pesticides in the last few decades has caused significant environmental degradation. Moreover, excessive use of pesticides causes stress on crops and non-target plants and exhibits toxicity to other organisms including mammals, microbes, and insects. Plants employ various morphological, physiological, and biochemical mechanisms to reduce pesticides toxicity. One such mechanism is production of secondary metabolites that improves stress tolerance of plants. In addition, recent studies have also highlighted a potential role of plasma technology in mitigating various abiotic and biotic environmental stresses. Besides, plasma treatment improves seed germination, physiological processes, and seedling establishment during the early growth stages of a plant under adverse and non-adverse conditions and thus can be used an alternate to the pesticide treatment. This review article summarizes recent advancements in understanding the synthesis, accumulation, and transportation of secondary metabolites which have significant relevance to crop improvement programs. We also present an overview of the effects of plasma treatment on phytopathogenic bacterial cell suspensions and plant responses to metabolic activity. In the future, researchers need to develop innovative ideas to reduce the use of chemical pesticides in farming practices.

Flexible gel polymer electrolytes based on polymer polyethylene oxide, salt lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide and ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide are synthesized. Prepared samples show high thermal stability, high ionic conductivity at room temperature and an electrochemical stability window of ∼3.51 V vs. Li/Li+. Lithium deposition-striping voltage profiles show the formation of a stable solid electrolyte interface. A Li/GPE/LiFePO4 cell was assembled by low cost thermal lamination technique. This cell can deliver 143 mAh g−1 capacity at room temperature at C/20 rate with good discharge efficiency. Use of micro grid mesh type Al current collector in cathode exhibits significant improvement in capacity retention.

Adaptive feedback linearizing control schemes are used to suppress limit cycle oscillations in nonlinear systems where the system parameters are either unknown or uncertain. Parameter convergence is desirable in these schemes as it provides a measure of robustness of the scheme and also permits the unknown/uncertain system parameters to be estimated. In recent work, we have shown how using a persistently exciting forcing it is possible to achieve parameter convergence in nonlinear limit cycling systems. In practice, however, limits on the control input to the plant due to saturation must be considered, and the main goal of this work is to analyze the effect of input saturation on parameter convergence in an adaptive feedback linearization framework. In particular, a technique known as control hedging is incorporated and the effectiveness of this method for very severe saturation constraints has been evaluated. Results are presented for a single degree-of-freedom wing rock dynamics model and a multi degree-of-freedom combustion acoustics model showing successful parameter convergence even in the presence of input saturation.
