Application of dual cloud point extraction for the enrichment of zinc in serum samples of psychiatric patients prior to analysis by FAAS

        Mariam S. Arain,Tasneem G. Kazi,Hassan I. Afridi,Muhammad Bilal,Jamshed Ali,Abdul Haseeb 한국공업화학회 2018 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.62 No.-

It is reported in literature that zinc (Zn2+) has antidepressant activity. In present study Zn2+ was analyzed in blood serum of male patients having various psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia, depression, bipolar). As it is usually present in trace levels. Hence a novel, environmental friendly, dual-cloud point extraction (d-CPE) method was developed for the enrichment of its trace levels in acid digested serum samples. In the first step of d-CPE, Zn2+ was complexed with 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol (PAN), and the complex was entrapped in a nonionic surfactant (Triton X-114). After achieving cloud point by heating, the mixture was separated into two layers i.e. aqueous and surfactant-rich by centrifugation. In second step of d-CPE, the analyte complex in the surfactant-rich phase was treated wih acid to extract back the metal analytes in acidic aqueous phase, the mixture was again heated upto cloud point and the whole procedure was repeated. This time the aqueous phase, having the metals, was taken and subjected to FAAS using conventional nebulization. The accuracy of the developed methodologies (conventional and d-CPE), were verified by their application to certified reference material of serum (CRM). Reliability of the method was checked by relative standard deviation (%RSD), which was found to be <5%. The limit of detection and limit of quantification were calculated for the proposed method as 1.09 μg/L, and 3.63 respectively and enhancement factor was found to be 40. The developed procedure was successfully applied to the serum samples of patients (male) having different psychiatric disorders and non-psychiatric control subjects for the determination of Zn2+.

A green microextraction method in a narrow glass column for copper in artificial saliva extract of smokeless tobacco products

        Sadaf S. Arain,Tasneem G. Kazi,Hassan I. Afridi,Naeemullah,Kapil D. Brahman,Muhammad B. Arain,Abdul H. Panhwar,Mariam S. Arain,Shahnawaz Baloch 한국공업화학회 2016 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.34 No.-

A green non-dispersive ionic liquid based microextraction (ND-ILmE) method was proposed for thepreconcentration of trace levels of copper (Cu2+) in artificial saliva extract (ASE) of smokeless tobaccoproducts (SLT). A 100 cm long, narrow glass column containing aqueous solution of Cu/ASE was used toincrease phase transfer ratio by providing more contact area between two medium, which drasticallyimprove the recovery of Cu-PAN complex into ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluor-ophosphate [C4mim][PF6]. At optimum experimental conditions, the detection limit and theenhancement factor were found to be 0.042 mg L 1 and 85, respectively. This method was successfullyapplied to real samples.

Potential anti-acne loaded nanogel formulations of Origanum majorana L. and Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat. essential oils

Kotb Eman A.,El-Shiekh Riham A.,Hassan Mariam,Abd-Elsalam Wessam Hamdy,El Tanbouly Nebal,El Senousy Amira Safwat 한국응용생명화학회 2024 Applied Biological Chemistry (Appl Biol Chem) Vol.67 No.-

Acne is a highly prevalent skin disease with a great psychological impact on patients as self-perception, self-confidence, and depression. This work aimed to develop an anti-acne preparation from active anti-bacterial medicinal plants to circumvent the severe side effects and drug resistance commonly reported with topical erythromycin anti-acne preparations. Essential oils: Salvia officinalis L. (sage), Rosmarinus officinalis L. (rosemary), Commiphora myrrha Nees Engl. (myrrh), Origanum majorana L. (marjoram), Pelargonium zonale L. L’Hér. ex Aiton (geranium) and Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat. (chrysanthemum) were extracted by hydrodistillation and analyzed using gas chromatography/ mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The anti-acne activities of the oils against Cutibacterium acnes ATCC 6919 were evaluated by microdilution methods to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC). The most active essential oils were loaded in a film-forming nanogel prepared with chitosan, pluronic F127 and glycerol in the ratio of 3:1:1, prior to investigation in a murine acne in vivo model. Marjoram and chrysanthemum oils showed the highest antimicrobial activity against C. acnes (MIC = 0.156% v/v and 0.125% v/v, respectively). GC/MS of the actives showed that gamma-terpinene (26.46%) and terpinen-4-ol (22.24%) were the predominant constituents in marjoram, whereas chrysanthenone (32.79%) was the main component in chrysanthemum. The formulated essential oil-loaded film-forming nanogels of both oils exhibited significant anti-acne activity in mice via reducing the bacterial loads, activating the antioxidant nuclear factor erythroid 2–related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway and inhibiting the inflammatory tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) pathway. Further studies should be designed to evaluate the clinical evidence for the use of marjoram and chrysanthemum oil products in acne treatment.

      • SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW: THE FORMULATION ON MALAYSIA HALAL CATERING REGULATION IN MALAYSIA COMMERCIAL VESSEL/CRUISE VESSEL

Madzli Harun,Nor Atiqah Binti Che Udin,Jagan Jeevan,Nurul Haqimin Mohd Salleh,Wan Mariam Wan Abdullah,Azizul Yadi Yaakop,Zuha Rosufila Abu Hassan 국제이네비해양경제학회 2020 International Journal of e-Navigation and Maritime Vol.15 No.1

Systematic literature reviews (SLR) are very important to track the extent to which studies related to the formulation of Halal Catering on board have been previously studied by previous scholars. Therefore, the SLR study requires a clear and detailed understanding concerning the study direction for each selected article by analyzing the scope of the study and its dimensions as the main emphasis whether it has been discussed by any previous scholar or otherwise. Through the basis of the analysis of literature reviews will enable the specific detection of the title of the study. Even SLR analysis is also able to compare in terms of the year the article was published by comparing the differences in scope and dimensions of each article by selected scholars referred to 16 scholars from the year 2012 until 2017. Regards to methodology, SLR emphasised into five stages such as i) Time Frame, ii) Selection of a database, iii) Journal selection, iv) Article selection and v) Literature review analysis. Analysis, discussion, and findings will be focusing on the scope, dimensions, and years of studies by using figures, tables as facilitators of analysis and findings. Hence, the role of Halal institutions will be able to assess its ability to form halal rules with the involvement of stakeholders and the scope that has been affected in detail.

      • HOW IMPORTANCE OF MALAYSIA HALAL CATERING REGULATIONS IN MALAYSIA COMMERCIAL VESSEL

Madzli Harun,Nor Atiqah Binti Che Udin,Jagan Jeevan,Nurul Haqimin Mohd Salleh,Wan Mariam Wan Abdullah,Azizul Yadi Yaakop,Zuha Rosufila Abu Hassan 국제이네비해양경제학회 2020 International Journal of e-Navigation and Maritime Vol.14 No.1

The formulation of Halal and Catering Regulation on board is a new draft proposal in shipping industry in the nation to ensure Muslim seafarers will be protected under social welfare. Currently, there are no regulations in place regarding the formulation of provision of Halal and Catering which have been enforced by several authorities at different sector in the nation. However, Halal JAKIM is an expert and focal point with the right to issue Halal certification not only in this nation but globally. The main objective of the study was to form a Halal committee on board for the co-ordination of responsibilities between the agencies, and the second objective was to establish the Halal and Catering Regulations on the merchant vessel for the Malaysian flag. The problem is that seafarers feel insecure about the preparation of halal food and no regulations have been issued to date. In fact, this study requires Qualitative methods because several actions related to the Halal-Toyibban Policy and food preparation rules should be obtained through closed-ended interviews with Halal regulatory experts, ship-owners, and selected stakeholders. Therefore, the analytical process will refer to the use of transmitted transitions from oral to text through the coding system in facilitate the content analysis process; and further to the level of discussion and findings. Ship-owners should ratify the Halal and Catering Regulations once they are enacted. The results of this study are expected to formulate the framework for the Halal and Catering Committee involving the agency by reference to interdependent theory. The second finding was to formulate a draft of the Halal and Catering Regulations on the Malaysian merchant vessel by reference to the application of benchmarking theory. Finally, this study will benefit the Muslim seafarer with the cooperation of the ship-owner and the relevant government agencies.

Micro-grid Monitoring and Supervision: Web-based SCADA Approach

        Ali Mohamed A.,Barakat Mahmoud M.,Abokhalaf Masoud M.,Fadel Yasmin H.,Kandil Mohamed,Rasmy Mariam W.,Ali Osama N.,Besheer Ahmad H.,Emara Hassan M.,Bahgat Ahmed 대한전기학회 2021 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.16 No.5

Owing to the widespread use of the micro-grid concept to serve many real life applications, the main concern of this paper is to monitor, evaluate and manage the operational performance of an existent, already installed micro-grid that consists of On & Off grid PV systems in addition to the main grid supply. With the aid of customized web based SCADA system fully designed by authors, the performance evaluation of the proposed micro-grid is carried out in terms of energy consumption, power quality indices and energy cost based on Egypt’s energy current tariff . The designed system helps in both micro-grid status monitoring as well as load sharing between the main grid supply and the off grid PV energy system. The data of the on grid PV energy system are accessed and collected online directly from the inverter web server instead of downloading them offl ine from the PV inverter. In this case, data are analyzed with a reasonable refresh rate, which saves time and eff ort. Remote access platform is developed securely through a multi-level security authentication and strong data encryption using the OpenVPN protocol under the Dynamic Domain Name System service. Smart wired and wireless technology—used as integrated sensing devices to the developed SCADA system—enables easy system installation and running cost saving. Finally, to validate the collected data from the newly SCADA designed monitoring system, a performance characterization for the on grid PV system following international standards of yields calculations is carried out for 3 months in 2019.
