Stratospheric Platform Deployment Strategy for Avoiding Satellite Signal Blockage

A stratospheric platform is a very large unmanned airship which will be an ideal base station for any kind of wireless system. But there will be a disadvantage of blocking satellite broadcasting and communication links. We have calculated the receiving level degradation and shadowed area on the ground that is dependent on the position stability of the platform and on the configuration of satellite link and platform position. And we will show an eminent reduction of the shadowing effect by choosing and adjusting the nominal platform position. Also the number of houses that remain shadowed and its unavailability due to shadowing are also shown.
Effect of Skew Angle on Seismic Response of Irregular Concrete Bridges with Horizontal Curve

This article is a parametric study of 315 reinforced concrete bridges including 45 straight and 270 curved bridges for different geometrical conditions in different layouts, which were stimulated by earthquake near-field records. Past experiences show that irregular bridges with skew angles exhibit more critical behavior when exposed to near-field records. For this reason, in current research the effect of parameters such as skew angle (α), degree of the curvature (β) and irregularity obtained for different ratios of the height of the middle columns of the bridge in three different layouts on the seismic performance of the bridge has been investigated by performing non-linear time history analysis. Bridges in all modeling types are designed according to AASHTO standard criteria. The results of different modeling types are compared with the base model (regular bridge without curvature and zero skew angle). The results show that the seismic behavior of the bridge is strongly influenced by the skew angle of the bridge deck and bridge curvature. It was also observed that the rate of impact of changes in the skew angle of the bridge compared to the changes in the curvature of the bridge and irregularity is more noticeable to change the seismic responses of the bridge. If it is necessary to build curved bridges, in order to avoid the occurrence of torsional breakage in the bridge columns, it is recommended that the curvature angle should be considered equal to 40 degrees at most, and even if possible, it is recommended to avoid building bridges with skew angle of more than 30 degrees.
Magnetism of SrM3P4O14 (M2+ = 3d Ions) Investigated Using Neutron-scattering Measurements

The substances SrM3P4O14 (M = Mn, Fe, Co or Ni) have the same crystal structure. However,the magnetism of SrMn3P4O14 differs qualitatively from that of the other substances. We determinedthe magnetic structures of SrM3P4O14 (M = Mn or Co) by using neutron powder diffractionmeasurements. The spin system in SrMn3P4O14 can be regarded as a trimerized spin chain, whichis consistent with the spin system inferred from the crystal structure and the appearance of the 1/3quantum magnetization plateau. The spin system in SrCo3P4O14 is not a trimerized spin chain.
Reformation of mistuned blade profile with a novel device offering multiple point loads

Propeller blade manufacturing and operation becomes challenging due to unavoidable casting failures and operational errors. The existing developed patented devices are found to be inefficient in performing reformation of defected blades. Thus, the motive of this research is to develop an innovative approach to overcome the flaws associated with production and operation. Inspired by pin-art boards to form 3-dimensional (3D) shapes, a new model for blade reformation is proposed and examined in this paper. More specifically, the presented innovative device relates to method for reshaping the blade profile to achieve the desired pitch by implementing multiple point loadings over the propeller blades. Along with the device, a hybrid theoretical model was developed, validated and compared with experimental measurements and numerical finite element analyses (FEA). The results have demonstrated its capability in achieving the optimum results under given conditions, signifying its feasibility in smart and advanced manufacturing of blade reformation.
Gut microbiota–generated metabolites in animal health and disease

Gut microbiota is found in virtually any metazoan, from invertebrates to vertebrates. It has long been believed that gut microbiota, more specifically, the activity of the microbiome and its metabolic products, directly influence a variety of aspects in metazoan physiology. However, the exact molecular relationship among microbe-derived gut metabolites, host signaling pathways, and host physiology remains to be elucidated. Here we review recent discoveries regarding the molecular links between gut metabolites and host physiology in different invertebrate and vertebrate animal models. We describe the different roles of gut microbiome activity and their metabolites in regulating distinct host physiology and the molecular mechanisms by which gut metabolites cause physiological homeostasis via regulating specific host signaling pathways. Future studies in this direction using different animal models will provide the key concepts to understanding the evolutionarily conserved chemical dialogues between gut microbiota and metazoan cells and also human diseases associated with gut microbiota and metabolites.
