Polyphenol-rich blackcurrant extract prevents inflammation in diet-induced obese mice

Obesity is closely associated with chronic, low-grade inflammation. We investigated if polyphenol-rich blackcurrant extract (BCE) can prevent inflammation in vivo. Male C57BL/6J mice were fed a modified AIN-93M control diet containing high fat/high cholesterol (16% fat, 0.25% cholesterol by weight) or the control diet supplemented with 0.1% BCE (wt/wt) for 12 weeks. In BCE-fed mice, the percentage of body weight and adipocyte size of the epididymal fat were significantly lower than those of control mice. There were fewer crown-like structures (CLS) with concomitant decreases in F4/80, cluster of differentiation 68 and inhibitor of nuclear factor κB kinase ε (IKKε) mRNA in the epididymal adipose of BCE-fed mice. F4/80 and IKKε mRNA levels were positively correlated with CLS number. In the skeletal muscle of mice fed with BCE, mRNA expression of genes involved in energy expenditure and mitochondrial biogenesis, including PPARα, PPARδ, UCP-2, UCP-3 and mitochondrial transcription factor A, were significantly increased. When splenocytes from BCE-fed mice were stimulated by lipopolysaccharides, tumor necrosis factor α and interleukin-1β mRNA were significantly lower than control splenocytes. Together, the results suggest that BCE supplementation decreases obesity-induced inflammation in adipose tissue and splenocytes, at least in part, by modulating energy metabolism in skeletal muscle.

<P><B>Summary</B></P><P>Genomic stability is critical for the clinical use of human embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells. We performed high-resolution SNP (single-nucleotide polymorphism) analysis on 186 pluripotent and 119 nonpluripotent samples. We report a higher frequency of subchromosomal copy number variations in pluripotent samples compared to nonpluripotent samples, with variations enriched in specific genomic regions. The distribution of these variations differed between hESCs and hiPSCs, characterized by large numbers of duplications found in a few hESC samples and moderate numbers of deletions distributed across many hiPSC samples. For hiPSCs, the reprogramming process was associated with deletions of tumor-suppressor genes, whereas time in culture was associated with duplications of oncogenic genes. We also observed duplications that arose during a differentiation protocol. Our results illustrate the dynamic nature of genomic abnormalities in pluripotent stem cells and the need for frequent genomic monitoring to assure phenotypic stability and clinical safety.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P><P>► hESCs and hiPSCs show more gene copy number variation than somatic cells ► Degree of abnormality differs more between hESC lines than hiPSC lines ► Deletions common in hiPSCs after reprogramming, duplications appear over time ► Recurrent duplications occur at specific genomic loci in pluripotent cells</P>
Assessment of neutron-induced activation of irradiated samples in a research reactor

The combination of MCNP6 and the FISPACT codes was used to predict inventories of radioisotopes produced by neutron exposure of a sample in a research reactor. The detailed MCNP6 model of the Budapest Research Reactor and the specific irradiation geometry of the NAA channel was established, while realistic material cards were specified based on concentrations measured by PGAA and NAA, considering the precursor elements of all significant radioisotopes. The energy- and spatial distributions of the neutron field calculated by MCNP6 were transferred to FISPACT, and the resulting activities were validated against those measured using neutron-irradiated small and bulky targets. This approach is general enough to handle different target materials, shapes, and irradiation conditions. A general agreement within 10% has been achieved. Moreover, the method can also be made applicable to predict the activation properties of the near-vessel concrete of existing nuclear installations or assist in the optimal construction of new nuclear power plant units.
웹 기반 환경을 통한 대학 사진 교육 개선에 관한 연구

Photography has been educated in University for last 40 years. It is the time to improve educating photography in university. Recently, Web become wide-spread. So, many teachers begin to consider Web as a good educational environment. On this research, we describe method, which is using web for educating photography, as a point of educational engineering. At first, we try to define character of photographic education in Korean university by Analyzing curriculum. Some problems are appeared that reducing educational efficiency. This problems can be complement by Web Based Instruction including Shared Understanding Supporting Tools. Such as Announcement, Activity board, Extra opinion etc. We construct web site that organized into My room, Group room and Class room. Then, it applied to Scientific photography class in Chung-Ang University. As a result, Web will be effective educational Environment. Also, the effect of collaborative learning can be maximized by using shred understanding supporting tools.

Especially like today which we call the information age, we are investing our time and effort to learn something new and sometimes force to do it to survive in jungle. New theories, new techniques, and new ways of living are tend to help us living better than before, however sometimes those are imposing a heavy burden on a person who are not familiar with them. Without a doubt, there is a huge revolution is going on in photography area without exception. Since it was first invented in 1839, the basic formality of producing a photography has not been changed until the digital concept was introduced. The transition from analog information to digital one can fulfill the purpose of photography in many application area especially when it uses with Internet and telecommunication. This thesis is emphasized on 'output' in digital imaging process because it is the one that most of photographers are paying great attention to. We tried to compare the digital outputs with traditional photographic output methods to anticipate the possibilities of 'Digital Darkroom'- the upcoming revolution !

We are at the starting point of the third stage of Human Society which is represented by Information Technology. It depends on one's effort and decision to survive in the storm of new technologies and navigate into the new continent. The way of Humanbeing's living is changing because of different coummunication ways and reconstruction of society classes than the one we used to be. Commnication network and Internet make an overture new concept of time and space and it eventually accelate the globalization. There is a notible development in area of Art and Photography. Computer is considered as a tool to create photographs and since photography become the part of multimedia, it is really hard to distinguish it from animation, virtual reality and so on. As a result of that, not only people in photography industry but also photographic education are confused to choose right way to go. No one can prospect the future of photography with confidence but if we anaylize the tendency of industry related with photography, that might be the one way to get an answer. This thesis is divided into three parts : Comparison of film and CCD, Future of Digital Imaging, and An example of future digital camera. There might be a different progress than the suggestion in this thesis. Again, no one can tell about future of photography since a few genius can change everything. However as I mentioned early, it is depend on one's will to survive in this revolution.
