APPLICATION OF ADOMIAN'S APPROXIMATION TO BLOOD FLOW THROUGH ARTERIES IN THE PRESENCE OF A MAGNETIC FIELD

        Haldar, K. 한국전산응용수학회 2003 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.12 No.1

The present investigation deals with the application of Adomian's decomposition method to blood flow through a constricted artery in the presence of an external transverse magnetic field which is applied uniformly. The blood flowing through the tube is assumed to be Newtonian in character. The expressions for the two-term approximation to the solution of stream function, axial velocity component and wall shear stress are obtained in this analysis. The numerical solutions of the wall shear stress for different values of Reynold number and Hartmann number are shown graphically. The solution of this theoretical result for a particular Hart-mann number is compared with the integral method solution of Morgan and Young[17].

A high precision shear flexible element for bending analysis of thick/thin triangular plate

        Haldar, S.,Das, P.,Manna, M.C. Techno-Press 2004 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.18 No.1

A high precision shear deformable triangular element has been proposed for bending analysis of triangular plate. The element has twelve nodes at the three sides and four nodes inside the element. Initially the element has thirty-five degrees of freedom, which has been reduced to thirty by eliminating the degrees of freedom of the internal nodes through static condensation. Plates having different boundary conditions, side ratios (b/a) and thickness ratios (h/a = 0.001, 0.1 and 0.2) have been analyzed using the proposed shear locking free element. Concentrated and uniformly distributed transverse loads have been used for the analysis. The formulation is made based on first order shear deformation theory. For validation of the present element and formulation few results of thin triangular plate have been compared with the analytical solutions. Results for thick plate have been presented as new results.

This is mainly because India suffers from high usage of tobacco, which is one of the main causative agents of oral cancer, and lacks proper health and sexual hygiene in rural areas. Discussion: Non-coding RNAs are reported to be involved in the various mechanism and causality of cancer. Numerous reports have identified viable prospects connecting non-coding RNA (ncRNA) with cancer. Specific ncRNAs like long non-coding RNA or lncRNAs are recently being prioritized as potential associations in the cause of cancer. Conclusion: This review aims at presenting a concise perspective on the basics and the recent advancements of the lncRNA research pertaining specifically to oral cancer, its recurrence, and the future possibilities of knowledge it might possess.

      • BODIPY-Derived Polymeric Chemosensor Appended with Thiosemicarbazone Units for the Simultaneous Detection and Separation of Hg(II) Ions in Pure Aqueous Media

        Haldar, Ujjal,Lee, Hyung-il American Chemical Society 2019 ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES Vol.11 No.14

<P>Developing a simple and cheap analytical method for the selective detection and quantitative separation of toxic ions present in aqueous media is the biggest challenge faced by the chemosensing research community. Here, a 5,5-difluoro-1,3,7,9-tetramethyl-10-phenyl-5<I>H</I>-dipyrrolo-diazaborinine-derived water-soluble polymer integrated with thiosemicarbazone units was rationally designed and synthesized for the simultaneous detection and separation of Hg(II) ions in pure aqueous solution. The water-soluble polymer scaffold poly(<I>N</I>,<I>N</I>′-dimethyl acrylamide-<I>co</I>-5,5-difluoro-1,3,7,9-tetramethyl-10-phenyl-5<I>H</I>-dipyrrolo-diazaborinine-2-carbaldehyde) was synthesized by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization, followed by post-polymerization modification with thiosemicarbazide, leading to the formation of the target probe, P1. The nonemitting P1 exhibited bright yellow emission upon exposure to Hg(II) ions, with a limit of detection as low as 0.37 μM. This turn-on emission behavior triggered by Hg(II) ions might originate from the suppression of isomerization around the C═N bond of the thiosemicarbazone moiety caused by the formation of a coordination complex between P1 and Hg(II) ions. In addition, P1 displayed excellent selectivity toward Hg(II) ions over other metal cations. Finally, the selective removal of Hg(II) ions from an aqueous solution containing various metal ions was achieved by precipitation, which is probably caused by the fact that coordination complexes whereby Hg(II) ions acted as bridgeheads between P1 molecules had formed.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

      • BODIPY-derived multi-channel polymeric chemosensor with pH-tunable sensitivity: selective colorimetric and fluorimetric detection of Hg2+ and HSO4− in aqueous media

Haldar, Ujjal,Lee, Hyung-il The Royal Society of Chemistry 2018 Polymer chemistry Vol.9 No.39

<P>The development of water-soluble polymeric probes capable of recognizing more than one analyte is quite challenging and has attracted significant attention. A water-soluble random copolymer (P1) consisting of hydrophilic <I>N</I>,<I>N</I>′-dimethyl acrylamide (DMA) and aldehyde-terminated difluoroboron dipyrromethene (BODIPY) methacrylate segment was synthesized <I>via</I> the reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization for the detection of Hg2+ and HSO4− ions, respectively. The aldehyde terminal end of P1 was post-functionalized with 4-amino phenol through a Schiff-base condensation reaction, leading to a final polymeric probe (P2). P2 exhibited both colorimetric and fluorimetric responses according to the pH of the aqueous solution or bubbling the solution with CO2, manifesting itself as a pH indicator and CO2 sensor. Upon the addition of Hg2+ ions, P2 showed apparent color changes from pink to light yellow under ambient light and colorless to bright green emission under 365 nm UV light with a very low limit of detection (LOD = 1.10 μM). At low pH, no change in the fluorescence enhancement was observed upon exposure to Hg2+ ions, whereas the fluorescence intensity of P2 increased remarkably at high pH. Similar sensing behavior was observed for HSO4− ions with a LOD of 1.12 μM. P2 was quite selective toward Hg2+ and HSO4− over the other metal cations and anions tested, respectively. The detection of both Hg2+ and HSO4− ions originated from the direct hydrolysis of imine bonds of P2.</P>

      • Antisteroidogenic activity of Raphanus sativus seed extract in female albino mice

Haldar, P.K.,Mazumder, U.K.,Bhattacharya, Sanjib,Manikandan, L.,Bhattacharya, Siladitya Kyung Hee Oriental Medicine Research Center 2009 Oriental pharmacy and experimental medicine Vol.9 No.4

The defatted methanol extract of Raphanus sativus Linn. (Cruciferae) seed (MERS) was evaluated for its antisteroidogenic potential in mature female Swiss albino mice. The methanol extract at the doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight significantly elevated the levels of cholesterol and ascorbic acid contents which serve as a precursor for the synthesis of steroid hormones in ovaries. The extract also significantly inhibited glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and ${\Delta}^5-3{\beta}$-hydroxy steroid dehydrogenase, the two key enzymes involved in ovarian steroidogenesis. Hence the extract (MERS) exhibited significant antisteroidogenic activity.

Prolificacy and Its Relationship with Age, Body Weight, Parity, Previous Litter Size and Body Linear Type Traits in Meat-type Goats

        Haldar, Avijit,Pal, Prasenjit,Rajesh, M. Datta,Pal, Saumen K.,Majumdar, Debasis,Biswas, Chanchal K.,Pan, Subhransu Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2014 Animal Bioscience Vol.27 No.5

Data on age and body weight at breeding, parity, previous litter size, days open and some descriptive body linear traits from 389 meat-type, prolific Black Bengal goats in Tripura State of India, were collected for 3 and 1/2 years (2007 to 2010) and analyzed using logistic regression model. The objectives of the study were i) to evaluate the effect of age and body weight at breeding, parity, previous litter size and days open on litter size of does; and ii) to investigate if body linear type traits influenced litter size in meat-type, prolific goats. The incidence of 68.39% multiple births with a prolificacy rate of 175.07% was recorded. Higher age (>2.69 year), higher parity order (>2.31), more body weight at breeding (>20.5 kg) and larger previous litter size (>1.65) showed an increase likelihood of multiple litter size when compared to single litter size. There was a strong, positive relationship between litter size and various body linear type traits like neck length (>22.78 cm), body length (>54.86 cm), withers height (>48.85 cm), croup height (>50.67 cm), distance between tuber coxae bones (>11.38 cm) and distance between tuber ischii bones (>4.56 cm) for discriminating the goats bearing multiple fetuses from those bearing a single fetus.

      • Impacts of Photoperiod and Maternal Pineal Gland on Pre- and Post-natal development of Indian palm Squirrel F. pennanti

Haldar, C.,Bishnupuri, K.S. Korean Society of Photoscience 2002 Journal of Photosciences Vol.9 No.2

Studies till date suggest the existence of a fetal biological clock in suprachiasmatic nuclei entrained by the circadian signal from mother. Melatonin from maternal pineal gland reaches to the fetus by crossing every biological barrier including placenta, hence fetuses were exposed to similar melatonin variation as their mother. Experimental modulations of maternal pineal gland activity of pregnant females either by exposing the them to different photoperiodic schedules or by exogenous melatonin treatments till the date of parturition, regulated the fetal plasma level of melatonin, thereby the prenatal (fetal) growth and development. This clearly suggests the maternal transport of melatonin to their fetus through placenta since fetal retina-hypothalamic tract was incomplete. An extension of experimental schedules till 60 days of post-partum period regulated the neonatal pineal gland activity and gonadal maturation along with their plasma levels of melatonin and sex steroids suggesting clearly the phenomenon of maternal transfer of melatonin to their young ones during the post-natal period, when the neonates were solely dependent on the mother's milk for their nutrition and energetic demands. On the basis of above observations we may suggest that the maternal pineal gland activity regulate the prenatal development by passing its melatonin to fetus via placenta and post-natal growth and sexual maturation by passing maternal melatonin to neonates via milk. Hence, the photoperiod perceived by mother is translated into the maternal plasma level of melatonin which not only regulates the prenatal but also the post-natal growth and sexual maturation of neonates.

Bending analysis of composite skew cylindrical shell panel

Salil Haldar,Aditi Majumder,Kanak Kalita 국제구조공학회 2019 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.70 No.1

A nine node isoparametric plate bending element is used for bending analysis of laminated composite skew cylindrical shell panels. Both thick and thin shell panels are solved. Rotary inertia and shear deformation are incorporated by considering first order shear deformation theory. The analysis is performed considering shallow shell theory. Both shallow and moderately deep skew cylindrical shells are investigated. Skew cylindrical shell panels having different thickness ratios (h/a), radius to length ratios (R/a), ply angle orientations, number of layers, aspect ratio (b/a), boundary conditions and various loading (concentrated, uniformly distributed, linear varying and doubly sinusoidal varying) conditions are analysed. Various new results are presented.
