Corrosion of Plastics and Composites in Chemical Environments

The degradation of polymeric materials with chemical reaction in which the molecular chains is cut is called corrosion. In this paper the behavior, the forms and mechanisms of corrosion of resins and GFRP (glass fiber reinforced plastics) under several aqueous solutions are reviewed based on our experiments. Three types of corrosion exist: the surface reaction type, the corroded layer forming type and the penetration type. Each form was determined by the chemical structures of` the resin, the reactivity between resins and environments, and also the diffusivity of environmental media into the resins. The concept of the corrosion rate of metals could be applied even in plastics and fiber reinforced plastics for each corrosion form.
Nanostructure Ceramics of Silicon Nitride Produced by Spark Plasma Sintering

The nanostructure control of ceramics can be achieved by using fine starting powder and retardation of grain growth. The spark plasma sintering technique is useful to retard the grain growth by rapid heating. In the present work, the change of microstructure was investigated with emphasis on the particle size of starting powder, the amount of sintering additive and the heating schedule. The rapid heating by spark plasma sintering gave the fine microstructure consisting of equiaxed grains with the same size as starting particles. The spark plasma sintering of fine powder was effective to control the microstrucutre on nano-meter level.
A Design of DC/DC Converter of Photovoltaic Generation System for Streetcars

A great deal of effort has been made on installation of photovoltaic generation systems. As a conventional way, the dc power generated by solar panels is converted to ac by a utility interactive inverter just beside the panel. Authors have developed a new installation strategy of them by a dc power line for a streetcar. First, it can reduce the total installation cost because it does not require a lot of the traditional utility interactive inverters. Secondly, it is suitable for collecting and consuming the solar power at the heart of a city because the streetcar carries passengers in day time and its railway is widely spread in the city. In this paper, a power conversion unit which consists of two dc/dc converters bridged by an Electric Double Layer Capacitor is proposed and designed for a sample city. Its performance is also verified by simulation study.
Electrical and mechanical properties of cubic ZrO2 stabilized with Sc2O3 and Y2O3

It has been reported that Sc2O3- doped ZrO2 has the highest ionic conductivity among zirconia ceramics. The xmol%Sc2O3 ñadded 3YSZ (abbr. xSc3Y; x = 0 to 8) powders were prepared by homogeneous precipitation reaction using urea. A mixture of cubic and tetragonal phases was observed in every xSc3Y sample by XRD, and the amount of cubic phase increased with increasing Sc2O3 content. The ionic conductivity of xSc3Y exhibited a maximum, 0.244 S/cm at x = 6. Although the fracture toughness of xSc3Y decreased with an increase in x, xSc3Y samples were tougher than 8YSZ. The improvement in fracture toughness is due to the fine microstructure compared to 8YSZ and the difference in fracture mode. Sc2O3 -added 3YSZ should be applicable as an electrolyte for high performance solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) replacing 8YSZ.

This study tries to grasp the characteristics of different cultures by analyzing the differences of satisfaction with school life according to Korean, Chinese, and Japanese middle school students` participation in school sports club activities. Furthermore, the purpose of the study is to provide the basic materials and information necessary for revitalizing Korean sports clubs. For this, the survey was conducted targeting 173 Korean persons, 158 Chinese persons, and 198 persons who participated in middle school sports clubs from Jul. 1st, 2012 to Jun. 30th, 2013. As for the sampling method, the total 529 copies were used by using stratified cluster sampling. As for the analytical methods, frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), reliability analysis, and two-way ANOVA were carried out by using SPSS WIN 18.0 Statistical program. And the Duncan method was used for posteriori tests. The research results are as follow: First, it has found that there is difference in satisfaction with school life according to the periods that Korean, Chinese, and Japanese middle school students participated in school sports clubs. Second, it has found that there is difference in satisfaction with school life according to the frequencies that Korean, Chinese, and Japanese middle school students participated in school sports clubs. Third, it has found that there is difference in satisfaction with school life according to the hours that Korean, Chinese, and Japanese middle school students participated in school sports clubs.
Experiments for utilizing GNSS in a shore area Sensor Network

Modernized GNSS such as new GPS signals updated GLONASS and coming Galileo promises higher quality and higher reliability for users. Powerful technologies such as Internet, ubiquitous network technology and sensor network has been used to promote a safe and more secure lifestyle. This report describes experimental trials to combine these technologies namely GPS and Sensor Network into a high-performance system. GPS is used to enlarge the cation range, resolving the service area limitations, as a wider service area s required at shore areas compared to urban area. GPS position datum is also used as primary network routing information to get practical Sensor Network. Another application s e under water Sensor Network. Accurate GPS position and time are used to establish stable and high reliability underwater acoustic sensor Network. This paper describes the background of the project "Harbor area Marine Ubiquitous Sensor Network", preliminary consideration and testing. Radio and acoustic communication is the main focus of this preliminary experiment.
