The dependencies of the stack number N on perpendicular exchange-biasing (H<SUB>ex</SUB>) and coercivity H<SUB>c</SUB>) in [Pd/Co]<SUB>N</SUB> and [Pd/Co (or CoFe)]<SUB>N</SUB>/FeMn multilayers were investigated. With the help of the careful designs of layer structures, a series of samples whose surface anisotropies have the linear function N was prepared with constant bulk anisotropies. From the experimental data obtained, it was found that H<SUB>ex</SUB> does not depend on the surface anisotropy, while H<SUB>c</SUB> shows a strong dependence. Therefore, it is possible to tailor wide ranges of H<SUB>c</SUB> (300-600 Oe) without varying H<SUB>ex</SUB>(∼200 Oe) through the single control parameter stack number N.

Let E(B(A)) denote the elliptic curve E(B(A)) y2=x3+A(x)+B. In this paper, we calculate the number of points on elliptic curves E0A: y2=x3+A(x) over Fp mod 24. For example, if p=1(mod 24) is a prime, 3t2=1 (mod p) and A(-1 + 2t) is a quartic residue modulo p, then the number of points in E0A: y2=x3 + Ax is congruent to 0 modulo 24.
A statistical approach to radar rainfall estimates using polarimetric variables

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>To improve the accuracy of radar rainfall estimates, this study examines rainfall relationships derived from polarimetric variables calculated from Drop Size Distributions (DSDs) measured by POSS (Precipitation Occurrence Sensor System) and PARSIVEL (PARticle Size and VELocity) disdrometers for eight different rainfall events in Korea associated with the Changma front, low pressure systems, typhoons, or the indirect effects of typhoons.</P> <P>Analysis of the correlation coefficients between polarimetric variables as independent parameters shows that multicollinearity is expected for Z–K<SUB>DP</SUB>, Z–A<SUB>H</SUB>, and K<SUB>DP</SUB>–A<SUB>H</SUB>. Of these, R(Z, K<SUB>DP</SUB>) is the only relationship that had too low an accuracy for application to radar rainfall estimation. R(Z, Z<SUB>DR</SUB>, K<SUB>DP</SUB>) and R(Z, K<SUB>DP</SUB>, A<SUB>H</SUB>) were also omitted from this analysis because their intercept coefficients were too large.</P> <P>Analysis of the sensitivity of radar rainfall estimation to DSDs variation shows that the latest observed DSDs perform well, as much as 2.4 mm h<SUP>−1</SUP> for RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) and 0.23 for NE (Normalized Error) in maximum. The statistical scores of each radar rainfall estimator vary between different rainfall events. This paper examines a new approach to radar rainfall estimation that is similar to the ensemble technique widely used in numerical prediction models. The ensemble members were chosen based on the average and standard deviation of their RMSE and NE for eight rainfall events. Two different weighting schemes were applied to each ensemble and the members were weighted equally or, alternatively, weighted based on their statistical scores. The performance of eight ensemble sets was examined using four independent rainfall events. There is little difference in the accuracy of each ensemble with respect to the weighting scheme applied. An ensemble composed of R(Z,Z<SUB>DR</SUB>), R(Z), and R(K<SUB>DP</SUB>), all given an equal weighting, was the most accurate.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Calculating all possible rainfall relation using drop size distributions by disdrometer </LI> <LI> Variations of the radar rainfall estimation accuracy with time </LI> <LI> Proposal of the ensemble mean as a new approach on radar rainfall estimation </LI> </UL> </P>

Amorphous CoSiB/Pt multilayer is a perpendicular magnetic anisotropy material to achieve high squareness, low coercivity, strong anisotropy, and smooth domain wall (DW) motion, because of the smoother interface compared with crystalline multilayers. For [CoSiB(6 angstrom)/Pt (14 angstrom)](N) multilayers with N = 3, 6, and 9, we studied the field-induced DW dynamics. The effective anisotropy constant K-1(eff) is 1.5 x 10(6) erg/cm(3) for all the N values, and the linear increment of coercive field H-c with N gives constant exchange coupling J. By analyzing the field dependence of DW images at room temperature, a clear creep motion with the exponent mu = 1/4 could be observed. Even though the pinning field H-dep slightly increases with N, the pinning potential energy U-c is constant (=35 k(B)T) for all the N values. These results imply that the amorphous [CoSiB/Pt](N) multilayers are inherently homogeneous compared to crystalline multilayers. For N <= 6, the pinning site density rho(pin) is less than 1000/mu m(2), which is about 1 pinning site per the typical device junction size of 30 x 30 nm(2). Also, the exchange stiffness constant A(ex) is obtained to be 0.48 x 10(-6) erg/cm, and the domain wall width is expected to be smaller than 5.5 nm. These results may be applicable for spin-transfer-torque magnetic random access memory and DW logic device applications. (C) 2014 AIP Publishing LLC.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the osteoporosis knowledge, self-efficacy, and preventive health promoting behaviors of the elderly who reside in urban and rural areas. Methods: Convenience sampling was used (urban elderly=127, rural elderly=112). The Osteoporosis Quiz, Osteoporosis Self-Efficacy scale, and Health Promotion Inventory for the Prevention of Osteoporosis were used to collect data. Data were analyzed using chi-square, t-tests, two-way ANOVAs, and multiple linear regression. Results: Elders residing in rural areas had significantly less knowledge of osteoporosis (t=-4.884, p<.001), self-efficacy (t=-6.153, p<.001), and preventive health-promoting behaviors (t=-5.710, p<.001). Multiple-regression analysis showed osteoporosis self-efficacy (p=.002) and chronic disease (p=.027) were significant predictors of preventive health-promoting behaviors for elders in urban areas. In rural areas, osteoporosis knowledge (p=.002), osteoporosis self-efficacy (p<.001), and regular medical examinations (p=.014) were significant predictors of preventive health-promoting behaviors. Conclusion: Promoting osteoporosis knowledge and self-efficacy may be significant in improving preventive health-promoting behaviors. Also, nursing interventions suitable for rural elders should be developed to increase their level of preventive health-promoting behaviors.
p21-Activated kinase 4 promotes prostate cancer progression through CREB

Prostate cancer is initially androgen-dependent but, over time, usually develops hormone- and chemo-resistance. The present study investigated a role for p21-activated kinase 4 (PAK4) in prostate cancer progression. PAK4 activation was markedly inhibited by H89, a specific protein kinase A (PKA) inhibitor, and PAK4 was activated by the elevation of cAMP. The catalytic subunit of PKA interacted with the regulatory domain of PAK4, and directly phosphorylated PAK4 at serine 474 (S474). Catalytically active PAK4 enhanced the transcriptional activity of CREB independent of S133 phosphorylation. Stable knockdown of PAK4 in PC-3 and DU145 prostate cancer cells inhibited tumor formation in nude mice. Decreased tumorigenicity correlated with decreased expression of CREB and its targets, including Bcl-2 and cyclin A1. Additionally, in androgen-dependent LNCap-FGC cells, PAK4 regulated cAMP-induced neuroendocrine differentiation, which is known to promote tumor progression. Finally, PAK4 enhanced survival and decreased apoptosis following chemotherapy. These results suggested that PAK4 regulates progression toward hormone- and chemo-resistance in prostate cancer, and this study identified both a novel activation mechanism and potential downstream effector pathways. Therefore, PAK4 may be a promising therapeutic target in prostate cancer.

Several Pt-based oxidation catalyst were prepared with different methods of preparing the metal precursor solution and characterized its Pt metal size with H2 chemisorption and TEM. To evaluate the catalytic activity, the model-gas tests were performed using micro-reactor system and on-line analyzer. In addition, a prototype of diesel oxidation catalyst were made for light-duty diesel passenger car, and tested the emission reduction performance with Korean regulation test mode (CVS-75 mode) using Chassis dynamometer.<br/>

Chemical bath deposition 방법으로 다결정 CdSe 박막을 세라믹 기판 위에 성장시킨 다음 온도를 변화시켜 열처리하고 X-선 회절무늬를 측정하여 결정구조를 밝혔다. 450℃로 열처리한 시료가 X-선 회절무늬로 부터 외삽법에 의해 a_o와 c_o 는 각각 4.302 Å과 7.014 Å인 육방정계임을 알았다. 이 때 낱알크기는 약 0.3㎛이었다. Van der Pauw 방법으로 Hall 효과를 측정하여 운반자 농도와 이동도의 온도의존성을 연구하였다. 이동도는 33 K 에서 200 K 까지는 압전산란에 의하여, 200 k 에서 293 K 까지는 극성광학산란에 의하여 감소하는 경향이 나타냈다. 광전도 셀의 특성으로 스텍트럼 응답, 감도(γ), 최대허용소비전력 및 응답 시간을 측정하였다. Polycrystalline CdSe thin films were grown on creamic substrate using a chemical bath deposition (CBD) method. They were annealed at various temperature and X-ray diffraction patterns were measured by X-ray diffractometer in order to study CdSe polycrystal structure. Using extrapolation method of X-ray diffraction patterns for the CdSe samples annealed in N_2 gas at 450℃ it was found hexagonal structure whose lattice parameters a_o and c_o were 4.302 Å and 7.014 Å, respectively. It grain size was about 0.3 ㎛. Hall effect on this sample was measured by Van der Pauw method and studied on carrier density and mobility depending on temperature. From Hall data, the mobility was likely to be decreased by piezo electric scattering at temperature range of 33 K and 200 K, and by polar optical potical scattering at temperature range of 200 K and 293 K. We measured also spectral response, sensitivily (γ), maximum allowable power dissipation and response time on these samples.
