Root coverage using a coronally advanced flap with or without acellular dermal matrix: a meta-analysis

        Guan, Wei,Liao, Haiqing,Guo, Li,Wang, Changning,Cao, Zhengguo Korean Academy of Periodontology 2016 Journal of Periodontal & Implant Science Vol.46 No.1

Purpose: Gingival recession is a major esthetic concern and may lead to root sensitivity during periodontal treatment. Coronally advanced flaps (CAFs) with and without acellular dermal matrix (ADM) are widely used in root coverage procedures. The aim of this study was to analyze the efficacy of CAF in combination with ADM in the treatment of gingival recession. Methods: PubMed, The Cochrane Library, and Embase were used to identify relevant articles. The articles were screened, data were extracted, and the quality of the studies was assessed by three reviewers with expertise in clinical practice, trials, statistics, and biomedical editing. The clinical endpoints of interest included changes in recession, probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and keratinized tissue (KT). Results: Ten randomized controlled trials were identified, including six studies that compared CAFs with ADM and CAFs using connective tissue grafting (CTG) and four studies that compared CAFs with or without ADM. No statistically significant differences were found between the use of ADM and CTG, whereas statistically significant differences were found between groups in which ADM and CAF were combined and groups that underwent CAF alone with regard to recession coverage, CAL, and KT. The combination of CAF with an ADM allograft achieved more favorable recession coverage and recovery of CAL and KT than CAF alone. Conclusions: The results from the ADM and CTG groups suggest that both procedures may be equally effective in clinical practice. Given the limitations of this study, further investigation is needed to clarify the effectiveness of ADM and CAF in clinical practice.

A Relaxed Observer-based Control for LPV Stochastic Systems Subject to H∞ Performance

        Guan-Wei Chen,Cheung-Chieh Ku 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2020 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.18 No.4

A relaxed observer-based control problem of the disturbed Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) stochastic systems is addressed in this paper. For the control problem, some sufficient conditions are derived via a Lyapunov function whose positive definite matrix is not required as the diagonal case. Besides, a general H∞ performance index is proposed to constrain the effect of external disturbance on the state and estimation error. Furthermore, a lemma is proposed to eliminate the oscillation caused by determining performance level of state and estimation error. Another lemma is developed via extending projection lemma to convert the derived conditions into strict Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) form. By using convex optimization algorithm, all feasible solutions can be obtained by a single-step calculation to establish an observer-based Gain-Scheduled (GS) controller. Based on the designed controller, the asymptotical stability and H∞ performance of the LPV stochastic systems can be guaranteed in the sense of mean square. Finally, two examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed method.

Development of Parallel Plate Avalanche Counter for heavy ion collision in radioactive ion beam

        Wei, Xianglun,Guan, Fenhai,Yang, Herun,Wang, Yijie,Zhang, Junwei,Ma, Peng,Diao, Xinyue,Lu, Chengui,Li, Meng,Guan, Yuanfan,Duan, Limin,Hu, Rongjiang,Zhang, Xiuling,Xiao, Zhigang Korean Nuclear Society 2020 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.52 No.3

We have developed a position-sensitive Parallel Plate Avalanche Counter (PPAC) to detect the fission fragments and reconstruct the fission reaction plane in the experiment of studying nuclear equation of state (nEOS) by means of heavy ion collision (HIC). This experiment put forward high requirements for the performances of PPAC, such as the time resolution, efficiency and position resolution. According to these requirements we designed the PPAC with an active area of 240 mm × 280 mm working at low gas pressure. The results show that time resolution could be less than 300 ps. Position resolution is consistent with the theoretical calculation about 1.35 mm. Detection efficiency could be approaching 100% gradually with the voltage increasing in different gas pressures. The performances of PPAC have also been verified in beam experiment. Each set of anode wires can be accurately separated in the position spectrum. In the beam experiment, we also got the back-to-back correlation of fission fragments which is one of the direct signals characterizing binary decay.

The dynamic transcriptome of waxy maize (Zea mays L. sinensis Kulesh) during seed development

        Wei Gu,Diansi Yu,Yuan Guan,Hui Wang,Tao Qin,Pingdong Sun,Yingxiong Hu,Jihui Wei,Hongjian Zheng 한국유전학회 2020 Genes & Genomics Vol.42 No.9

Background Waxy maize (Zea mays L. sinensis Kulesh) is a mutant of maize (Zea mays L.) with a mutation at Waxy1 (Wx1) gene locus. The seed of waxy maize has higher viscosity compared to regular maize. By now, we know little about the expression patterns of genes that involved in the seed development of waxy maize. Objective By analyzing the transcriptome data during waxy maize seed development, we attempt to dig out the genes that may infuence the seed development of waxy maize. Methods The seeds of waxy maize inbred line SWL01 from six phases after pollination were used to do RNA-seq. Bioinformatics methods were used to analyze the expression patterns of the expressed genes, to identify the genes involved in waxy maize seed development. Results A total of 24,546 genes including 1611 transcription factors (TFs) were detected during waxy maize seed development. Coexpression analysis of expressed genes revealed the dynamic processes of waxy maize seed development. Particularly, 2457 genes including 177 TFs were specially expressed in waxy maize seed, some of which mainly involved in the process of seed dormancy and maturation. In addition, 2681, 5686, 4491, 4386, 3669 and 4624 genes were identifed to be diferential expressed genes (DEGs) at six phases compared to regular maize B73, and 113 DEGs among them may be key genes that lead the diference of seed development between waxy and regular maizes in milk stage. Conclusion In summary, we elucidated the expression patterns of expressed genes during waxy maize seed development globally. A series of genes that associated with seed development were identifed in our research, which may provide an important resource for functional study of waxy maize seed development to help molecular assisted breeding.

Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt for pyrrolidine-alkaloid-induced hepatic sinusoidal obstruction syndrome in a patient with situs inversus totalis and portal vein thrombus

        Yu-Guan Xie,Chen Xu,Hai-Bin Shi,Sheng Liu,Wei Yang,Wei Tian,Wei-Zhong Zhou 소화기인터벤션의학회 2023 International journal of gastrointestinal interven Vol.12 No.1

We here report a rare case of pyrrolidine-alkaloid-induced hepatic sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (PA-HSOS) complicated with situs inversus totalis and portal vein thrombus (PVT). The patient had abdominal distention and ascites, which were not responsive to conservative medical treatment or peritoneal drainage. Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) was successfully performed in the patient via the left internal jugular vein approach. After the procedure, abdominal distension and ascites gradually resolved. The TIPS procedure could be considered as a useful treatment for PA-HSOS patients with PVT.

      • Autophagy in Tumorigenesis and Cancer Treatment

Xu, Dong-Wei,Zhang, Guan-Qing,Wang, Zong-Wei,Xu, Xiao-Yin,Liu, Tong-Xiang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.6

Autophagy is a self-digestion process, wrapping cytoplasmic proteins or organelles to form vesicles for degradation in lysosomes. The process plays an important role in the maintenance of intracellular homostasis. Here we overview articles on autophagy and cancer/tumors in Pubmed and found 327 articles. Autophagy exists in many tumors and is involved in cell malignant transformation and tumor cell growth. In early phases of tumorigenesis, autophagy clears the abnormally folded proteins and dysfunctional organelles such as mitochondria. Autophagy can also inhibit cell stress responses and prevent genetic damage. When a tumor develops, autophagy helps tumor cells survive nutritional deficiencies and hypoxic conditions. Studies of autophagy in the occurrence and progression of tumors should provide new therapeutic strategies for tumors.

      • Silencing of the COPS3 Gene by siRNA Reduces Proliferation of Lung Cancer Cells Most Likely via induction of Cell Cycle Arrest and Apoptosis

        Wang, Xue-Mei,Cui, Jiu-Wei,Li, Wei,Cai, Lu,Song, Wei,Wang, Guan-Jun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.3

The COPS3 gene has stimulating effect on cell proliferation and progression of osteosarcomas and related cells. However, the features of COPS3 and its potential application as a therapeutic target in other cancers has not yet been studied. In this study, therefore, the effect of COPS3 silencing via COPS3 siRNA on lung cancer cell proliferation was examined. Expression levels of COPS3 gene in COPS3 siRNA infected cells and control siRNA infected cells were compared with real time PCR and Western blot analysis. Cell proliferation levels were comprehensively analyzed by MTT, BrdU incorporationy, and colony formation assays. For mechanistic assessment the effects of COPS3 silencing on cell cycle and apoptosis were analyzed using flow cytometry. Results showed that successful silencing of the COPS3 gene at both translational and transcriptional levels significantly reduced the proliferation and colony formation by lung cancer cells (p<0.01). Flow cytometry showed cell cycle arrest in the G0/G1 phase after COPS3 silencing, and more importantly, apoptosis was induced as a result of COPS3 knockdown, which negatively affected cell survival. Therefore, these results provide another piece of important evidence that the COPS3 gene expressed in lung cancer cells may play a critical role in stimulating proliferation. Down-regulation of COPS3 could significantly inhibit lung cancer cell growth, which was most likely mediated via induction of cell cycle arrest in G0/G1 phase and apoptosis.
