<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this study, we use the all-electron full-potential linearized augmented plane wave method to investigate the magnetocrystalline anisotropies of pure magnetic MnGeP<SUB>2</SUB> and MnGeAs<SUB>2</SUB> semiconductors. Both MnGeP<SUB>2</SUB> and MnGeAs<SUB>2</SUB> have been calculated to be more stable in their antiferromagnetic (AFM) states than in their ferromagnetic (FM) states, with energy differences of about 230 and 190meV/Mn, respectively. MnGeP<SUB>2</SUB> and MnGeAs<SUB>2</SUB> exhibit a positive <I>E</I> <SUB>MCA</SUB> (magnetization along the <I>z</I> axis) of +52.3 and +122.6μeV/Mn in their AFM magnetic ground states with a negative <I>E</I> <SUB>MCA</SUB> (magnetization on the <I>xy</I> plane) of −71.1 and −177.8μeV/Mn in their FM states. The <I>E</I> <SUB>MCA</SUB> behaviors are analyzed in terms of the electronic structure.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Magnetisms of MnGeP<SUB>2</SUB> and MnGeAs<SUB>2</SUB> are investigated using the FLAPW method. </LI> <LI> An antiferromagnetic state is ground for each of MnGeP<SUB>2</SUB> and MnGeAs<SUB>2</SUB>. </LI> <LI> MnGeP<SUB>2</SUB> and MnGeAs<SUB>2</SUB> exhibit magnetization along the <I>z</I> axis in their antiferromagnetic states. </LI> <LI> MnGeP<SUB>2</SUB> and MnGeAs<SUB>2</SUB> exhibit magnetization on the <I>xy</I> plane in their ferromagnetic states. </LI> </UL> </P>

Purpose: The purpose of study is to evaluate the clinical results of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction using the quadruple hamstring tendon with preservation of the PCL remnant. Subjects and Methods: Twenty PCL reconstructions have been performed by one surgeon. The average follow-up period were at 31 months. There were 11 isolated injuries and 9 associated injuries. The clinical outcome was assessed by preoperative and postoperative posterior displacement at stress radiograph, Lysholm knee score and complications. Results: At last follow up Lysholm knee scores improved from 60 preoperatively to 92 postoperatively. The average preoperative posterior displacement at stress radiograph was 14 mm and postoperatively it was 3.2 mm. The average postoperative posterior displacement at stress radiograph was 2.6 mm in isolate injury and 3.7 mm in associated injury. The average postoperative posterior displacement at stress radiograph was 2.6 mm in case of reconstruction within three weeks and 3.7 mm in case of reconstruction after three weeks. Conclusion: Good stability and function of knee could be obtained by PCL reconstruction using hamstring tendon with preserving the PCL remnant and non-aggressive rehabilitation.

Purpose: Nuclear Factor-κB p65 (NF-κB p65) and nuclear Factor-κB1 p50 (NF-κB p65) have been shown to play roles in cell proliferation, apoptosis, cytokine production and oncogenesis. This study was designed to investigate the expressions of NF-κB p65 and NF-κB p50 proteins in premalignant lesions and colorectal adenocarcinoma. Methods: Paraffin sections of 20 normal mucosa specimens, 20 low grade tubular adenoma specimens, 20 high grade tubular adenoma specimens and 64 adenocarcinoma specimens were analyzed immunohistochemically for the expressions of NF-κB p65 and NF-κB p50 proteins. Results: The expressions of NF-κB p65 and NF-κB p50 proteins were significantly higher in the adenocarcinoma tissue compared with that in the normal mucosa, the low grade tubular adenoma and the high grade tubular adenoma tissues. The frequency of a NF-κB p50 expression was higher in the poorly differentiated histologic grade specimens, in the presence of nodal metastasis and in the high stage specimens. There were significant correlations between the NF-κB p65 and NF-κB p50 proteins. Conclusion: The expressions of NF-κB p65 and NF-κB p50 proteins may play a role in the pathogenesis of colorectal carcinoma.
음이온 교환수지에 의한 고순도 희토류산화물의 분리 및 정량에 관한 연구

음이온 교환수지를 이용하여 CeO$_2$, Sm$_2$O$_3$ 및 La$_2$O$_3$에 잔류물로 포함된 미량의 희토류원소들을 분리하였고, MTB(Methyl-Thymol Blue)를 가지고 분리된 원소들의 흡광도를 측정하여 순도를 측정하였다. Y$^{3+}$, Yb$^{3+}$, Eu$^{3+}$, Sm$^{3+}$, Nd$^{3+}$, Pr$^{3+}$, Ce$^{4+}$ 및 La$^{3+}$이 각각 1 mg/ml 들어있는 혼합시료 1ml를 수지 상단에 흡착시키고 여러 가지 조성의 메탄올과 질산의 혼합용액을 용리액으로 사용하여 분리하였다. 그 결과를 이용하여 순도의 CeO$_2$, Sm$_2$O$^{3+}$ 그리고 La$_2$O$^{3+}$에 불순물로 들어있는 미량의 다른 희토류원소를 정량하였다. The purity of CeO$_2$, Sm$_2$O$^{3+}$ and La2O$^{3+}$ have been determinated by separating the impurity of rare earth-elements in those oxides with anion exchange resin and measuring the absorbance of the separated element with MTB. 1 ml of the mixture solution containing each 1 mg/ml of Y$^{3+}$, Yb$^{3+}$, Eu$^{3+}$, Sm$^{3+}$, Nd$^{3+}$, Pr$^{3+}$, Ce$^{4+}$and La$^{3+}$ is loaded in top layer of anion exchange resin column, Amberlite CG400 and separated with the mixture solution of the various concentration of methyl alcohol and nitric acid as an eluent. Using the result, the impure rare earth elements in pure CeO$_2$, Sm$_2$O$^{3+}$ and La$_2$O$^{3+}$ are determinated.

BACKGROUND: Many Down syndrome (DS) patients have an atrial septal defect (ASD) and associated pulmonary hypertension (PH) from early childhood. ASD closure in DS patients with PH is often controversial due to concerns regarding exacerbation of PH. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical outcome following surgical ASD closure in children with DS. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of DS patients who underwent surgical ASD patch closure from January 2000 to December 2016. RESULTS: A total of 15 patients underwent surgery for ASD. Prior to ASD patch closure, nine patients were diagnosed with PH, three of whom took medications for PH. The mean age of patients at ASD patch closure was 17.3 months, and the mean diameter of the ASD was 10.2 mm. Three patients who took medications for severe PH underwent ASD patch closure at ages 7, 12, and 25 months. Two patients continued medication for an additional 13 and 21 months, and one patient remained on medication 52 months after ASD closure. PH did not recur following discontinuation of selective pulmonary vasodilators in two patients. Although a moderate degree of PH remained in one patient due to a chronic lung problem, it was improved compared to before ASD closure. No PH was observed in the remaining 12 patients following ASD closure. CONCLUSIONS: A large ASD can be closed even in DS patients with severe PH during early childhood with the support of multiple selective pulmonary vasodilators.
Magnetism and Magnetocrystalline Anisotropy at fcc Fe (001) Surface

The size and surface effects on the magnetism of a fcc Fe (001) surface was investigated by performing firstprinciples calculations on 3, 5, 7, and 9 monolayers fcc Fe (001) single slabs with two different two-dimensional lattice constants, a = 3.44 A (System Ⅰ) and 3.65 A (System Ⅱ), using the all-electron full-potential linearized augmented plane wave method within a generalized gradient approximation. The surface layers were coupled ferromagnetically to the subsurface layer in both systems. However, the magnetism of the inner layers was quite different from each other. While all the inner layers of System Ⅱ were ferromagnetically coupled in the same way as the surface layer, the inner layers of System I showed a peculiar magnetism, bilayer antiferromagnetism. The calculated spin magnetic moments per Fe atom were approximately 2.7 and 2.9 μB at the surface for Systems Ⅰ and Ⅱ, respectively, due to the almost occupied Fe d-state being in the majority spin state and band narrowing. The spin orientations of System I were out-of-plane regardless of its thickness, whereas the orientation of System Ⅱ changed from out-of-plane to in-plane with increasing thickness.
