        Porous membranes in pressure-assisted forward osmosis: Flux behavior and potential applications

        In this work, pressured-assisted forward osmosis (PAFO) was performed using porous membranes to achieve higher fluxes. The effects of additional pressure and membrane orientation on membrane performance were investigated. When ultralow additional pressure (0.04 bar) was applied, the water flux at AL-FS orientation (i.e. active layer facing the feed solution) was observed to double. Reverse solute diffusion was also inhibited dramatically at both membrane orientations in PAFO. Filtration tests revealed that porous membranes with ultralow pressure in FO were more applicable than ultrafiltration (UF) because mild condition (i.e., 0.12 bar versus 1.25 bar) is conducive to preserving microalgae cell integrity.

      • Research on the Impact of Information Sharing on the Stone Trade Supply Chain between China and South Korea

        Purpose - Based on the important influence of information, this paper studies the impact of information sharing on the Stone trade supply chain achievements between China and Korea and the influencing factors of information sharing in the stone trade supply chain. Design/Methodology/Approach - Based on the important role of information sharing, this study explored the connotation of information sharing, the categories of influencing, factors and the types of supply chain achievements through theoretical traceability, and empirically analyzed the correlation between various variables through questionnaires and spss.12. Findings - This study believes that the influencing factors of information sharing include information sharing intention, transaction dependence, enterprise reputation, product characteristics, and information reading ability. The stone trade supply chain performances between China and South Korea include price, supply time, quality, flexibility, and stone resource conservation. In addition to product characteristics, other influence factors positively impact information sharing, which positively impacts supply chain performances. Research Implications - This study is of great significance to improve the information sharing level of China’s South Korea stone trade supply chain. It provides constructive suggestions for improving the information-sharing level.

        Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to explore the existing problems of the barrage video website in view of the current situation that the barrage video website greatly impacts people’s video viewing mod. Design/Methodology/Approach - Based on the subversive revolutionary impact of driverless technology on the future of urban intelligent transportation, this paper mainly adopts the method of theoretical analysis. Combined with the current urban intellectual transportation construction status, it conducts theoretical research on future urban thoughtful transportation construction planning. Findings - This study puts forward constructive suggestions on the smart construction of future cities from six aspects: top-level design, technical support, intelligent infrastructure construction, intelligent transportation decisionmaking system, industry and talent construction, and social cooperation. Research Implications - In the management of this paper, This paper is of great significance to the planning and construction of smart transportation in future cities and the coordinated development of driverless and smart transportation.

        Vibration analysis of mountain tunnel lining built with forepoling method

        Nowadays, many tunnels have been commissioned for several decades, which require effective inspection methods to assess their health conditions. The ambient vibration test has been widely adopted for the damage identification of concrete structures. In this study, the vibration characters of tunnel lining shells built with forepoling method was analyzed based on the analytical solutions of the Donnell-Mushtari shell theory. The broken rock, foreploing, rock-concrete contacts between rock mass and concrete lining, was represented by elastic boundaries with normal and shear stiffness. The stiffness of weak contacts has significant effects on the natural frequency of tunnel lining. Numerical simulations were also carried out to compare with the results of the analytical methods, showing that even though the low nature frequency is difficult to distinguish, the presented approach is convenient, effective and accurate to estimate the natural frequency of tunnel linings. Influences of the void, the lining thickness and the concrete type on natural frequencies were evaluated.

        Large eddy simulation of blockage effects in the assessment of wind effects on tall buildings

        The blockage effect on the aerodynamic characteristics of tall buildings is a fundamental issue in wind tunnel test but has rarely been addressed. To evaluate the blockage effects on the aerodynamic forces on a square tall building and flow field peripherally, large eddy simulations (LES) were performed on a 3D square cylinder with an aspect ratio of 6:1 under the uniform smooth inflow and turbulent atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) inflow generated by the narrowband synthesis random flow generator (NSRFG). First, a basic case at a blockage ratio (BR) of 0.8% was conducted to validate the adopted numerical methodology. Subsequently, simulations were systematically performed at 6 different BRs. The simulation results were compared in detail to illustrate the differences induced by the blockage, and the mechanism of the blockage effects under turbulent inflow was emphatically analysed. The results reveal that the pressure coefficients, the aerodynamic forces, and the Strouhal number increase monotonically with BRs. Additionally, the increase of BR leads to more coherence of the turbulent structures and the higher intensity of the vortices in the vicinity of the building. Moreover, the blockage effects on the aerodynamic forces and flow field are more significant under smooth inflow than those under turbulent inflow.

        Compensatory Responses of Nile Tilapia Oreochromis niloticus under Different Feed-Deprivation Regimes

        We investigated compensatory growth of Nile Tilapia Oreochromis niloticus in structural size and live weight in response to different deprivation periods and refeeding. Four treatments were assigned randomly to fish in 12 glass tanks, with each treatment performed in triplicate. The control group was fed to satiation three times a day throughout the experiment. The other three treatment groups were starved for 1 week (S1), 2 weeks (S2), or 4 weeks (S4) and then fed until the end of the experiment. After the experiment, no significant differences were observed among S1, S2, and the control group in average weight or length, whereas the weight and length of S4 were significantly reduced. Relative condition factors of the three starved groups decreased significantly until the end of the restricted period but recovered rapidly after refeeding. The specific growth rate in weight ($SGR_W$) of the three restricted groups recovered quickly upon refeeding and were significantly higher than the control group, but these differences disappeared gradually until the end of the experiment. No significant difference in specific growth rate in length ($SGR_L$) was noted between the control group and the three restricted groups after refeeding. All three groups showed hyperphagia for a short period upon refeeding, and no statistical differences were observed in feeding efficiency among the four groups.

        Effects of pH on Fertilization and the Hatching Rates of Far Eastern Catfish Silurus asotus

        In this experiment, we examined the survival, fertilization, hatching times, and hatching rates of Far Eastern catfish Silurus asotus at pH ranging from 2 to 13 under laboratory conditions. Eggs could be fertilized at pH 3-12. In a hatching experiment, mortality was first observed at pH 13, when all fertilized eggs died within 8 min, followed by pH 2 (30 min), pH 12 (60 min), pH 3 (4 h), and pH 11 (5 h). Hatching only occurred at pH 4-10, with the highest hatching rate at pH 7 (52%) and the lowest at pH 10 (24%). Hatching rates in acid solutions were higher than in alkaline solutions, although the difference was not significant. Hatching was first observed at pH 10, beginning 27 h after fertilization and ending at the 31 h. A clear difference was observed between hatching times, ranging from 31 to 64 h and increasing in order with descending pH.

        The refined theory of 2D quasicrystal deep beams based on elasticity of quasicrystals

        Based on linear elastic theory of quasicrystals, various equations and solutions for quasicrystal beams are deduced systematically and directly from plane problem of two-dimensional quasicrystals. Without employing ad hoc stress or deformation assumptions, the refined theory of beams is explicitly established from the general solution of quasicrystals and the Lur’e symbolic method. In the case of homogeneous boundary conditions, the exact equations and exact solutions for beams are derived, which consist of the fourth-order part and transcendental part. In the case of non-homogeneous boundary conditions, the exact governing differential equations and solutions under normal loadings only and shear loadings only are derived directly from the refined beam theory, respectively. In two illustrative examples of quasicrystal beams, it is shown that the exact or accurate analytical solutions can be obtained in use of the refined theory.
