Indicatory Sign Recognition Using A New Morphological Shape Matching Algorithm

in this paper, a new morphological shape matching algorithm based on binary rank order transform is introduced and its properties are analyzed. And a new scheme of shape recognition using the morphological shape matching algorithm is developed, which is translation and rotation-invariant. As a practical application, 11 indicatory traffic signs on roads are tested to identify themselves by the shape recognition method and then the results show robustness to noise.
Study on Springback Properties of Different Orthodontic Archwires in Archwire Bending Process

The archwire bending is one of processes the most frequently used in the orthodontic treatment. Furthermore, the springback of sheet metal, which is defined as elastic recovery of the part during unloading, should be taken into consideration so as to produce formed archwire within acceptable tolerance limits. In this paper, the springback angle of different alloy archwires (including NiTi alloy wire, Beta-Ti alloy wires, Chinese stainless steel wires, and Australian stainless steel wires) were performed by the theoretical calculation based on large deformation theory and the finite element analysis. A series of numerical simulations has been conducted for the bending test, which physically simulates the actual bending of alloy archwire with a robotic apparatus. The finite element analysis of springback is shown to be very consistent with the theoretical calculation results.
Vision-Based Roadway Sign Recognition

In this paper, a vision-based roadway detection algorithm for an automated vehicle control system, based on roadway sign information on roads, is proposed. First, in order to detect roadway signs, the color scene image is enhanced under hue-invariance. Fuzzy logic is employed to simplify the enhanced color image into a binary image and the binary image is morphologically filtered. Then, an effective algorithm of locating signs based on binary rank order transform (BROT) is utilized to extract signs from the image. This algorithm performs better than those previously presented. Finally, the inner shapes of roadway signs with curving roadway direction information are recognized by neural networks. Experimental results show that the new detection algorithm is simple and robust, and performs well on real sign detection. The results also show that the neural networks used can exactly recognize the inner shapes of signs even for very noisy shapes.

In this paper, a new color morphology for color image processing is proposed as an extension of gray-scale morphology, in which a vector norm is used as a measure of magnitude of a color vector. Some properties of color morphological operations are analyzed and discussed in relation with gray-scale morphology. Experimently compared the performances of noise filterings and edge detections for several color and gray-scale morphological operations. As results of noise filterings. the basic dual color morphological operations of erosion and dilation are slightly better than the corresponding separate gray-scale morphological operations, while the other color morphological filters (CMFs) are very similar to the corresponding separate gray-scale morphological filters (SGMFs) with respect to the peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR). And in edge detection, the CMFs show better performances than both SGMFs and the conventional top hat transform of gray image.
Overexpression and Clinicopathological Contribution of DcR3 in Bladder Urothelial Carcinoma Tissues

Background: To explore the expression of DcR3 protein and its clinicopathological significance in bladder urothelial carcinomas (BUC). Materials and Methods: Immunohistochemistry was performed to detect the expression of DcR3, caspase-3, Bcl-2, VEGF, Ki-67, PCNA and P53 in 166 BUC and 56 normal bladder tissues. Western blotting was used to detect the expression of DcR3 in the supernatants of cultured BUC cells. Results: Overexpression of DcR3 was found in BUC tissues and cell lines, with significant elevation as compared to normal bladder tissues (p<0.0001). Higher DcR3 expression was related to the status of invasion, lymph node metastasis and recurrence. Furthermore, DcR3 expression was negatively correlated with caspase-3 and positively associated with Bcl-2, VEGF, Ki-67 labeling index (LI), PCNA LI and P53 (all p<0.0001), respectively. Conclusions: DcR3 may play a crucial role as an oncogene in tumorigenesis, deterioration and progress of BUC via influencing related pathways of apoptosis, proliferation and angiogenesis. The detection of DcR3 protein in the formalinfixed and paraffin-embedded samples could assist to predict in prognosis of BUC patients.
