Pathological Status of Pyricularia angulata Causing Blast and Pitting Disease of Banana in Eastern India

Ganesan, Sangeetha,Singh, Hari Shankar,Petikam, Srinivas,Biswal, Debasish The Korean Society of Plant Pathology 2017 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.33 No.1

Incidence of leaf blast on nursery plants and pitting disease on maturing banana bunches has been recorded in banana plantations during rainy season in Eastern India during 2014 to 2015. Taxonomical identification as well as DNA sequence analysis of the internal transcribed spacer region of fungus isolated from affected tissue culture derived plantlets and fruits confirmed the pathogen to be Pyricularia angulata Hashioka "in both the cases". Koch's postulates were proved on young plantlets as well as on maturing fruits of cv. Grand Naine under simulated conditions. Evolutionary history was inferred and presented for our P. angulata strain PG9001 with GenBank accession no. KU984740. The analysis indicated that the P. angulata is phylogenitically distinct from other related species related to both Pyricularia and Magnaporthe. Detailed symptoms of blast lesions on young leaves, transition leaves, mid rib, petioles, peduncle, maturing bunches, bunch stalks and cushions were documented. Notably, the distinct small pitting spots on maturing bunches reduced the visual appeal of mature fruits. Appearance of pitting symptoms on fruits in relation with age of fruits and their distribution pattern on bunch and fingers was also documented in detail. Further, the roles of transitory leaves, weed hosts, seasonality on disease occurrence have also been documented.

A FORMAL ASPECT OF THE PROCESS OF PRODUCTION AND COMPREHENSION OF A DISCOURSE

        Ganesan, N. 서울대학교 어학연구소 1986 語學硏究 Vol.22 No.4

During the moment of production of a discourse 'D', there are creation of classes of notions and evaluations of certain relations between those classes. Neither thoses classes nor those relations which bind them are permanent. They result from the conditions of the production of a discourse 'D'. Most of the contemporary language researchers share one common factor : "the conditions of production have an influence upon the selection of the combination of terms and the form of 'D' itself ; but the formal criteria to lay down a general Condition which could be applicable in all situations are not formally discussed in most of the systems, particularly, in those that we have evoked below. In this paper we have tried to analyse and extract some formal properties to represent thase conditions which constitute the process of production and comprehension of a discourse 'D', on the lights of enunciativo-predicative approach. We have focused mainly on how the two poles "I"(¢_0) and "you"(¢_1) are coprojected to constitute the enunciative process. The selection and combination of terms are carried, not by ¢_0 alone like in most of the formal systems (cf. Fillmore, Rouault, Descles but by the couple (¢_0,¢_1). To encounter the virtual participation of "you"(¢_1) in the process of production charged initially by "I"(¢_0) we have introduced a notion : "coprocess". The participants of the act are not keeping the same identity and referential coordinates in the course of the process. It is subject to change. This theoretical precaution will allow us to configurate better the problems of pragmactic level and to control at evety instant state whether t_1∈V(τ_0) and its adjacents t_(1-1)∈V(τ_0) and t_(1+1)∈V(τ_0) have the same coordinates or not ; and afterwards the same referential values.

Designing Knowledge and Expert System Engineering

        Ganesan, N. 서울대학교 어학연구소 1988 語學硏究 Vol.24 No.4

The communication consists of two parts. The first one deals with the Representation of Knowledge and the second one deals with its processing. Here below, I describe the first part by laying down some hypothesis for basic activities of representation of knowledge. It is an integrated view of how a propositional and interpropositional account of knowledge can be represented considering the proposition as a minimal unit of observation. It is a fragment of methodology related to semantic networks which claims that the information stored in the network, in most cases, is intensional. It is an experimental approach for the representation and the interpretation of knowledge articulated on a finite set of primitive operators (=, ≠, ω) and based on a finite set of cognitive and language invariants which I postulate as existing primitives of any domain.

      • Hierarchical Ni3.5Co5.5S8 nanosheet-assembled hollow nanocages: Superior electrocatalyst towards oxygen evolution reaction

        Ganesan, Vinoth,Ramasamy, Parthiban,Kim, Jinkwon Elsevier 2017 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF HYDROGEN ENERGY - Vol.42 No.9

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Developing highly efficient and cost-effective electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is crucial for renewable energy storage technologies. Here, we synthesized hierarchical Co-based bimetallic sulfide nanostructures as an efficient electrocatalyst for OER. Ni3.5Co5.5S8 nanostructures were synthesized by solvothermal sulfurization and thermal annealing of pre-synthesized homogenous bimetallic metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). • Inexpensive electrochemical synthesis of nickel iron sulphides on nickel foam: super active and ultra-durable electrocatalysts for alkaline electrolyte membrane water electrolysis

        Ganesan, P.,Sivanantham, A.,Shanmugam, S. Royal Society of Chemistry 2016 Journal of materials chemistry. A, Materials for e Vol.4 No.42

<P>Efficient and durable electrocatalysts for water splitting (both the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER)) are required for the replacement of expensive noble metal-based catalysts used in water electrolysis devices. Herein, we describe the inexpensive synthesis of electrochemically deposited nickel iron sulphides on nickel foam (NiFeS/NF) and their use as highly efficient bi-functional water splitting catalysts that can meet the current energy demands. The NiFeS/NF electrocatalysts exhibited low overpotentials of approximately 231 mV for the OER and 180 mV for the HER in 1 M KOH. Moreover, the NiFeS/NF electrocatalysts exhibited a turnover frequency of one order of magnitude higher than those of state-of-the-art noble metal catalysts (RuO2 and Pt/C) for the OER and HER. In addition to this excellent activity, the bi-functional catalyst also exhibited an outstanding OER and HER electrode stability for over 200 h with minimal loss in activity. Further, it can be directly used in the practical application of alkaline electrolyte membrane water electrolysis. The high performance, prolonged electrode stability, and facile synthesis as an adherent coating on nickel foam suggest that NiFeS/NF electrocatalysts might be suitable for use as alternative commercially viable catalysts.</P>

      • Flexural strengthening of RCC beams using FRPs and ferrocement - a comparative study

        Ganesan, N.,Bindurania, P.,Indira, P.V. Techno-Press 2020 Advances in concrete construction Vol.10 No.1

This paper deals with a comparative study among three different rehabilitation techniques, namely, (i) carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP), (ii) glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) and (iii) ferrocement on the flexural strengthening of reinforced cement concrete (RCC) beams. As these different techniques have to be compared on a level playing field, tensile coupon tests have been carried out initially for GFRP, CFRP and ferrocement and the number of layers required in each of these composites in terms of the tensile strength. It was found that for the selected constituents of the composites, one layer of CFRP was equivalent to three layers of GFRP and five layers of wiremesh reinforcement in ferrocement. Rehabilitation of RCC beams using these equivalent laminates shows that all the three composites performed in a similar way and are comparable. The parameters selected in this study were (i) the strengthening material and (ii) the level of pre-distress induced to the beams prior to the rehabilitation. It was noticed that, as the levels of pre-distress decreases, the percentage attainment of flexural capacity and flexural stiffness of the rehabilitated beams increases for all the three selected composites used for rehabilitation. Load-deflection behavior, failure modes, energy absorption capacity, displacement ductility and curvature ductility were compared among these composites and at different distress levels for each composite. The results indicate that ferrocement showed a better performance in terms of ductility than other FRPs, and between the FRPs, GFRP exhibited a better ductility than the CFRP counterpart.

Neuroimmunological Aberrations and Cerebral Asymmetry Abnormalities in Schizophrenia: Select Perspectives on Pathogenesis

Ganesan Venkatasubramanian,Monojit Debnath 대한정신약물학회 2014 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.12 No.1

Within the wide-ranging gamut of factors that comprise gene-environment interactions postulated to underlie schizophrenia, the crosstalk between environmental factors and feto-maternal immune components has been put forth as one of the importantmechanisms that increase the risk towards schizophrenia in the offspring. Interestingly, immune factors have been shown tocritically modulate the brain development during the prenatal stages. Moreover the past many decades, influential theoreticalpropositions and evidence base (albeit not unequivocally) have compellingly linked prenatal sex hormonal status to criticallyprovoke long lasting immunological changes and subsequently affect developmental programming of cerebral asymmetry inschizophrenia. In this review, we summarize the select perspectives emphasizing the role of neuroimmunoendocrine pathwaysin anomalous cerebral asymmetry in contemporary understanding of schizophrenia pathogenesis.

      • Recent developments in solid lipid nanoparticle and surface-modified solid lipid nanoparticle delivery systems for oral delivery of phyto-bioactive compounds in various chronic diseases

        Ganesan, Palanivel,Ramalingam, Prakash,Karthivashan, Govindarajan,Ko, Young Tag,Choi, Dong-Kug Dove Medical Press 2018 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF NANOMEDICINE Vol.13 No.-

<P>Solid lipid nanoparticle (SLN) delivery systems have a wide applicability in the delivery of phyto-bioactive compounds to treat various chronic diseases, including diabetes, cancer, obesity and neurodegenerative diseases. The multiple benefits of SLN delivery include improved stability, smaller particle size, leaching prevention and enhanced lymphatic uptake of the bioactive compounds through oral delivery. However, the burst release makes the SLN delivery systems inadequate for the oral delivery of various phyto-bioactive compounds that can treat such chronic diseases. Recently, the surface-modified SLN (SMSLN) was observed to overcome this limitation for oral delivery of phyto-bioactive compounds, and there is growing evidence of an enhanced uptake of curcumin delivered orally via SMSLNs in the brain. This review focuses on different SLN and SMSLN systems that are useful for oral delivery of phyto-bioactive compounds to treat various chronic diseases.</P>

Lemanea manipurensis sp. nov. (Batrachospermales), a freshwater red algal species from North-East India

        Ganesan, E.K.,West, J.A.,Zuccarello, G.C.,de Goer, S. Loiseaux,Rout, J. The Korean Society of Phycology 2015 ALGAE Vol.30 No.1

A new macroscopic riverine red algal species, Lemanea manipurensis sp. nov. (Batrachospermales) is described from Manipur in northeast India. It has a sparsely branched, pseudoparenchymatous thallus with a single, central axial filament that lacks cortical filaments. Spermatangia occur generally in isolated, low and indistinct patches or form an almost continuous ring around the axis. Carposporophytes project into the hollow thallus cavity without an ostiole. The most striking morphological feature is the carposporophyte with very short gonimoblast filaments having cylindrical, narrow and sparsely branched sterile filaments, the terminal cell of each branch with a single, large, elongate carpospore. The widely distributed L. fluviatilis has spherical carpospores in long branched chains. Phylogenetic analysis of rbcL sequence data and comparison with other Batrachospermales clearly show that our specimens do not align with other species of Lemanea and Paralemanea investigated thus far. Five specific names attributed in previous literature (1973-2014) to Lemanea from Manipur, L. australis, L. catenata, L. fluviatilis, L. mamillosa, and L. torulosa are rejected until critical anatomical and molecular evidence is available for specimens from the Manipur river systems. Taxa referable to Paralemanea were not confirmed for India in this study. In view of the high demand for food and medical uses of L. manipurensis in northeast India, conservation measures are needed for its long term survival. The present paper constitutes the first combined morphological / molecular study on a freshwater red alga from India.
