A combined search for the standard model Higgs boson at s=1.96 TeV

We present new results of the search for WH->@?νbb@? production in pp@? collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s=1.96 TeV, based on a dataset with integrated luminosity of 0.44 fb<SUP>-1</SUP>. We combine these new results with previously published searches by the D0 collaboration, for WH and ZH production analyzed in the E@?<SUB>T</SUB>bb@? final state, for ZH (->@?<SUP>+</SUP>@?<SUP>-</SUP>bb@?) production, for WH (->WWW) production, and for H (->WW) direct production. No signal-like excess is observed either in the WH analysis or in the combination of all D0 Higgs boson analyses. We set 95% C.L. (expected) upper limits on σ(pp@?->WH)xB(H->bb@?) ranging from 1.6 (2.2) pb to 1.9 (3.3) pb for Higgs boson masses between 105 and 145 GeV, to be compared to the theoretical prediction of 0.13 pb for a Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson with mass m<SUB>H</SUB>=115 GeV. After combination with the other D0 Higgs boson searches, we obtain for m<SUB>H</SUB>=115 GeV an observed (expected) limit 8.5 (12.1) times higher than the SM predicted Higgs boson production cross section. For m<SUB>H</SUB>=160 GeV, the corresponding observed (expected) ratio is 10.2 (9.0).

This study examined the anti-tumor effects of AGM130, a novel indirubin-3'-oxime derivative in A549 human non-small cell lung cancer cells. AGM130 significantly inhibited the proliferation and arrested the cell cycle of G2/M phase. Induction of apoptosis was detected in AGM130-treated A549 cells. The protein levels of Cytochrome c release, Bax, cleaved caspases and PARP were increased in AGM130 treated cells, whereas Bcl-2 levels were decreased. AGM130 inhibited Insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF1R), AKT/mTOR signaling and inactivated mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK). AGM130 also induced slight autophagy as pro-survival function and autophagy inhibition by chloroquine (CQ) induced necrosis. In vivo tumor xenograft model, AGM130 dose-dependently suppressed transplanted A549 cell tumor growth and induced the expression of proliferative cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). AGM130 also increased TUNEL positive apoptotic cell populations and the induction of glandular differentiation with mucin pool compared with vehicle-treated control in tumor tissue. These results suggest that AGM130 is an effective novel indirubin-3'-oxime derivative of anti-cancer drug and may be an attractive candidate for non-small cell lung cancer therapy.
Master packaging system for sweet persimmon applicable to produce supply chains

Modified-atmosphere-packaged sweet persimmons experience significant quality loss due to temperature fluctuations in the food supply chain, which cause an imbalance between respiration and package gas permeation. This imbalance results in the package atmosphere deviating from the tolerable range. In this study, a master packaging system was designed to maintain a suitable modified atmosphere around the fruit during pre-sale chilled storage and during retail display to preserve freshness. A 50-μm-thick low-density polyethylene (LDPE) outer liner bag containing 46 individual fruit packages (30-μm-thick oriented polypropylene (OPP) film bag with a micro-perforation of about 60μm) was placed within a corrugated paperboard box. Master packaging systems with and without the absorbent sachets were stored for 122d at 0<SUP>o</SUP>C and were periodically opened to remove and store the individual primary package units for 10d at 10<SUP>o</SUP>C to simulate retail display conditions. The master packaging systems were compared to 10-kg bulk packages containing individual fruit inside a 50-μm-thick LDPE film bag in terms of package atmosphere and fruit quality. Individual fruit packages consisting only of 30-μm-thick, micro-perforated OPP films without an outer liner bag were subjected to the pre-sale 0<SUP>o</SUP>C storage for comparison. The master packaging systems maintained an atmosphere with O<SUB>2</SUB> concentrations of 0.8-3.9% and CO<SUB>2</SUB> concentrations of 8.4-15.0% around the fruit during storage at 0<SUP>o</SUP>C and during display at 10<SUP>o</SUP>C. The high-temperature retail display, after chilled storage at 0<SUP>o</SUP>C, resulted in a drastic decline in quality, even with some alleviation offered by the master packaging system. The overall benefits were reduced weight loss, reduced physiological deterioration (e.g., flesh softening and surface blackening) and better retention of firmness and ascorbic acid during the chilled storage and/or the display conditions.

Nano Ni particle embedded Ni<SUB>3</SUB>S<SUB>2</SUB> powders (Ni-Ni<SUB>3</SUB>S<SUB>2</SUB>) are prepared by means of melt spinning and 10h-ball milling processes. The Ni particles with 10-20nm size are dispersed over all the Ni<SUB>3</SUB>S<SUB>2</SUB> powders with 3.28μm. Reversibility and rate capability of the Ni-Ni<SUB>3</SUB>S<SUB>2</SUB> electrode are investigated at various current densities from 0.1C to 5C by comparing with a conventional Ni<SUB>3</SUB>S<SUB>2</SUB> electrode. The Ni-Ni<SUB>3</SUB>S<SUB>2</SUB> electrode exhibits the remarkably improved reversibility of the redox reactions under high current density and 40% of discharge capacity retention at the current density of 2310mAg<SUP>-1</SUP>, corresponding to 5C-rate. The improved electrochemical performances are mainly ascribed to ultra fine Ni particles that supplement the loss of Ni and promote the recovery of Ni<SUB>3</SUB>S<SUB>2</SUB> during charge process.

A new selective and sensitive colorimetric chemosensor 1 was developed for the sequential detection of Cu<SUP>2+</SUP> and glutathione (GSH) in aqueous solution. The sensor 1 detected Cu<SUP>2+</SUP> ion by an obvious color change from colorless to pale yellow. Importantly, 1 could be used to detect and quantify Cu<SUP>2+</SUP> ion in water samples, and the detection limit (0.14 μM) of 1 for Cu<SUP>2+</SUP> was much lower than the guideline (31.5 μM) of WHO in drinking water. Also, Cu<SUP>2+</SUP>-2.1 complex can be used as a colorimetric sensor for GSH via naked-eye. The detection limit for GSH was founded to be 2.98 μM. Moreover, the sensing ability of 1 for Cu<SUP>2+</SUP> was supported by theoretical calculations.
Zγ production and limits on anomalous ZZγ and Zγγ couplings in pp@? collisions at s=1.96 TeV

We present a study of eeγ and μμγ events using 1109 (1009) pb<SUP>-1</SUP> of data in the electron (muon) channel, respectively. These data were collected with the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron pp@? collider at s=1.96 TeV. Having observed 453 (515) candidates in the eeγ (μμγ) final state, we measure the Zγ production cross section for a photon with transverse energy E<SUB>T</SUB>>7 GeV, separation between the photon and leptons ΔR<SUB>@</SUB>?<SUB>&</SUB>gamma;>0.7, and invariant mass of the di-lepton pair M<SUB>@</SUB>?<SUB>@</SUB>?>30 GeV/c<SUP>2</SUP>, to be 4.96+/-0.30(stat.+syst.)+/-0.30(lumi.) pb, in agreement with the Standard Model prediction of 4.74+/-0.22 pb. This is the most precise Zγ cross section measurement at a hadron collider. We set limits on anomalous trilinear Zγγ and ZZγ gauge boson couplings of -0.085<h<SUB>30</SUB><SUP>&</SUP>gamma;<0.084, -0.0053<h<SUB>40</SUB><SUP>&</SUP>gamma;<0.0054 and -0.083<h<SUB>30</SUB><SUP>Z</SUP><0.082, -0.0053<h<SUB>40</SUB><SUP>Z</SUP><0.0054 at the 95% C.L. for the form-factor scale Λ=1.2 TeV.

A directionally solidified CM247LC alloy was exposed at 871 °C and 982 °C for 1000 h, 5000 h, and 10000h under free stress in order to study the effect of microstructural degradation on the creep properties. None of the specimens exposed at temperatures up to 10000 h produced any kind of topologically close-packed phases because of the excellent phase stability of CM247LC alloy. The plate-like M6C carbide was formed only at exposure of 982 °C for 10000 h through a decomposition reaction between γ and MC. Moreover, an M23C6 carbide layer was observed between the M6C and the matrix. The exposure at 982°C for 5000 h and 10000 h had a spontaneous rafting of γ′ under free stress, while the exposure at 871 °C for 1000 h, 5000 h,and 10000 h had a non-rafted structure. The spontaneous rafted structure resulted in a drastic decrease in creep life. A 3-dimensional morphology of γ′ in the as-crept specimens, which were pre-exposed at 982 °C for 5000 h and 10000 h, had a non-rafted structure. This microstructural feature proves that the significant decrease in creep life of the specimen resulted from a loss of coherency between γ and γ′.

<P><B>Background:</B></P><P>There has been no previous study on the activity of gemcitabine in combination with oxaliplatin (GemOx) for castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC).</P><P><B>Methods:</B></P><P>The GemOx was preclinically tested for cytotoxic activity in human prostate cancer cell lines. Clinically, patients with CRPC who failed prior docetaxel were treated with gemcitabine 1000 mg m<SUP>−2</SUP> and oxaliplatin 100 mg m<SUP>−2</SUP> intravenously every 2 weeks and prednisolone 5 mg orally twice daily. The primary end point was the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) response rate.</P><P><B>Results:</B></P><P>The GemOx displayed synergistic effects based on Chou and Talalay analysis. In the phase II study, 33 patients were accrued. The median dose of docetaxel exposure was 518 mg m<SUP>−2</SUP>. A total of 270 cycles were administered with a median of eight cycles per patient. A PSA response rate was 55% (95% CI, 38–72) and radiologic response rate was 82% (9 out of 11). With a median follow-up duration of 20.5 months, the median time to PSA progression was 5.8 months (95% CI, 4.4–7.2) and the median overall survival was 17.6 months (95% CI, 12.6–22.6). The most frequently observed grade 3 or 4 toxicities were neutropenia (13%) and thrombocytopenia (13%).</P><P><B>Conclusions:</B></P><P>The GemOx is active and tolerable in patients with metastatic CRPC after docetaxel failure (NCT 01487720).</P>
