International Comparison of Perceived Smile Attractiveness and Consciousness

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the smile shapes that are considered attractive as well as smile consciousness, among women in Japan, the U.S.A., and Indonesia. Methods: In total, 262 women completed a survey on attitudes toward smile shapes, based on posed smile photographs. The attractiveness of 12 smile patterns and smile consciousness was compared among participants from the three countries. Results: The smile shapes that Japanese women found attractive had the corners of the mouth higher than the center of the upper lip, with the teeth and gingiva of the maxilla exposed (V shape). However, Americans and Indonesians preferred smiles with mouth corners aligned to the center of the upper lip and higher than the center of the lower lip, with the teeth and gingiva of the maxilla and mandible exposed (cup shape). A significantly higher proportion of respondents in Japan said they covered their mouth with their hand when smiling, and that they lacked confidence in their smiles. The primary reason for the lack of confidence was tooth alignment among Japanese, tooth color among Americans, and both tooth alignment and gingival exposure among Indonesians. Conclusion: Desirable smile shapes and smile consciousness differed significantly among the three countries.

The basic magnetic properties are reported for Eocene andesite and granitic andesite collected from the King Sejong Station and Marsh Runway at King George Island, South Shetland Islands Antarctic Peninsula. Samples A (andesite), B (granitic andesite) and D (granitic andesite) carry stable component of natural remanent magnetization (NRM), but sample C (andesite) unstable URM. These NRM stabilities are consistent with the domain structures estimated by the ratios of $J_R/J_s\;and\;H_{RC}/H_C$ values. On the basis of their Curie temperature, we infer magnetite as the main magnetic carrier for samples A B and C and titanomagnetite for sample D. Our study reveals that samples A and B are suitable for paleomagnetic investigations, whereas sample D is not.
Multiculturalism and social cohesion: A Japanese community’s perceptions of “being Australian”

Based on a large-scale survey conducted with parents from Japanese language schools in Sydney in 2015, this paper aims to review multiple dimensions of social cohesion in the Japanese ethnic community in Australia. Looking at several indices such as economic, political, and cultural integration, the paper describes the social profile of the Japanese ethnic community, questioning the generic perception of the community as a coherent body of middle-class migrants in Australia. This was achieved through a comparative analysis with outcomes of a national survey of the Australian population on social cohesion and draws attention to the ways in which a particular sense of social cohesion with Australian society is constructed by Japanese migrants. The study found a differentiated sense of belonging to the local community, country of residence (Australia), and nation of origin (Japan). It found communal diversity in the Japanese community resulting from there being a majority of women migrants who were part of cross-border marriages and their children living in multicultural family circumstances. It was concluded that this configuration within the community leads to advocacy related to a re-identification as a possible ethnic group of migrants that should be recognized in an inclusive migration settlement policy in Australia.

In this paper, we developed a simple ac/dc converter model for a power system stability analysis with considering the losses in a converter. The stability analysis deal the power system condition in the RMS value, and the developed converter model is arranged to be equivalent to the actual converter in its energy and RMS value. The developed model is consist of an ideal converter and a local load. We became to study the power system stability with more accuracy without increasing the computing burden so much by using this model.

In industry, an unsteady flow rate measurement of gases is becoming important increasingly. Our group has been developed an unsteady flow generator with an isothermal chamber for gases and showed that the calibration of the dynamic characteritics for the tested flow meter was effective. However, not only the measurement of the instantaneous flow rate value but also the evaluation of the time mean value in the unsteady flow becomes important in inustry. And it was difficult to control precisely the time mean value of the generated flow rate using the former unsteady flow generator which we developed. To solve this problem,our group developed an oscillatory gas flow generator with highly preciseinlet flow control system in 2008. In this research, to improve and clarify the precision of the generated flow rate with the oscillatory gas flow generator, we conduct to evaluate the performance of the in let flow rate control system with the sonic nozzle and the high precise pressure regulator. As a result, the highre producible results and stability were shown. Moreover, we perform the experiments and uncertainty analysis and confirm the effective of the suggested method.
