<P>As a magnetic material, carbonyl iron (CI) has been extensively used for magnetorheological (MR) fluids. However, MR fluids based on CI particles possess severe shortcomings of sedimentation and uniform dispersion due to the density difference between CI particles and carrier liquid. To overcome these problems, we prepared CI/polystyrene (PS) composites via a solvent casting method. The density of the synthesized CI/PS particles was much lower than that of the pristine CI particles. We further dispersed the composite particles in lubricant oil and investigated their MR properties using a rotational rheometer in parallel plate geometry with the magneto-rheological device. 9,10-Bis(bromomethyl)phenanthrene reacted with fullerenes via a Diels-Alder reaction to give phenanthrene-substituted fullerene mono-adducts (PCMA) and bis-adducts (PCBA) as electron acceptors for organic photovoltaic cells (OPVs). The syntheses of the fullerene derivatives were confirmed by $^1H$ $^{13}C$ NMR spectroscopy and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. PCMA and PCBA showed better light absorption in the UV-visible region than $PC_{61}BM$. Their electrochemical properties were measured using cyclic voltammetry. Accordingly, the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels of PCMA and PCBA were -3.66 and -3.57 eV, respectively. Photovoltaic cells were fabricated with a ITO/PEDOT:PSS/poly(3-hexylthiophene)(P3HT):acceptor/LiF/Al configuration, where P3HT and PCBA are the electron donors and acceptors, respectively. The polymer solar cell fabricated using the P3HT:PCBA active layer showed a maximum power conversion efficiency of 0.71%.

A series of fluorene-carbazole copolymers containing the pendant phosphor chromophore Ir(absn)2(acac) (absn: 2-(1-naphthyl)benzothiazole; acac: acetylacetone) were designed and synthesized via Yamamoto coupling. In the film state, these copolymers exhibited absorption and emission peaks at approximately 389 and 426 nm, respectively, which originated from the fluorene backbone. However, in electroluminescent (EL) devices, a significantly red-shifted emission at approximately 611 nm was observed, which was attributed to the pendant iridium(III) complex. Using these copolymers as a single emission layer, polymer light-emitting devices with ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer:DNTPD/TmPyPb/LiF/Al configurations exhibited a saturated red emission at 611 nm. The attached iridium(III) complex had a significant effect on the EL performance. A maximum luminous efficiency of 0.85 cd/A, maximum external quantum efficiency of 0.77, maximum power efficiency of 0.48 lm/W, and maximum luminance of 883 cd/m2 were achieved from a device fabricated with the copolymer containing the iridium(III) complex in a 2% molar ratio.
CircCEP85 upregulates IGF1 expression to promote breast cancer progression via sponging miR‑1193

Background: Increasing evidence has suggested that circular RNAs (circRNAs) play critical roles in breast cancer (BC) progression. However, the expression level and potential functional role of circRNA centrosomal protein 85 (circ- CEP85) in BC remains largely unknown. Here, we aimed to explore the role of circCEP85 in BC. Methods: The levels of circCEP85, insuline-like growth factor I (IGF1) mRNA and microRNA-1193 (miR-1193) were examined by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. The protein level was measured by Western blot. Cell proliferation, migration, apoptosis, angiogenesis and stemness were assessed by cell counting kit-8, 5-ethynyl- 2’-deoxyuridine assay, transwell assay, flow cytometry, tube formation and sphere formation assays. Xenograft mouse models were conducted to evaluate the effect of circCEP85 in BC in vivo. Moreover, dual-luciferase reporter, RNA pulldown, and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assays were preformed to confirm the interaction between miR-1193 and circCEP85 or IGF1. Results: CircCEP85 was upregulated in BC tissues and cells. Silencing of circCEP85 inhibited proliferation, invasion, angiogenesis and stemness, but promoted apoptosis in BC cells in vitro. In addition, circCEP85 silencing inhibited tumor growth in vivo. Mechanistically, circCEP85 elevated IGF1 expression via sponging miR-1193 to promote breast cancer progression. Conclusion: The circCEP85-miR-1193-IGF1 axis regulated BC progression via the competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) mechanism. CircCEP85 might be a prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for BC.
Preparation and Characterization of Tributyrin Sub-micron Emulsion as Carrier for Paclitaxel

Paclitaxel is a well known anticancer agent and has been a pharmaceutical challenge because of its extremely poor water-solubility and susceptibility to the p-glycoprotein (p-gp)-mediated efflux in multi-drug resistant (MDR) cancer cells. Tributyrin (TB), a triglyceride with relatively short fatty acid chains, was chosen as solubilizing vehicle for paclitaxel based on the solubility study (26.6 mg/mL). Tributyrin (10%) o/w emulsion containing paclitaxel (5%), egg phosphatidylcholine (5%) and pegylated phospholipid (0.5%) was prepared by high pressure homogenization to obtain submicron- sized emulsion. The mean particle size of the resultant TB emulsion was 395.5 nm. Paclitaxel in TB emulsion showed higher anticancer activity against human breast cancer cell line, MCF-7, than free form delivered in DMSO solution. On the other hand, its anticancer activity was significantly reduced in MCF-7/ADR, a MDR variant cancer cell line of MCF- 7, and recovered by the presence of verapamil, suggesting of the susceptibility to the p-gp mediated efflux even though paclitaxel was encapsulated into emulsion. The TB emulsion showed great potential as a promising vehicle for water-insoluble anticancer agent, paclitaxel.
MiR-30c facilitates natural killer cell cytotoxicity to lung cancer through targeting GALNT7

Background MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been reported to play important roles in regulating natural killer (NK) cell cytotoxicity to cancer cells. Objective This study aimed to investigate the effects and potential mechanism of miR-30c in regulating NK cell cytotoxicity to lung cancer cells. Methods Primary NK cells were derived from the peripheral blood of lung cancer and normal participants. Exosomes were isolated and validated via transmission electron microscopy and nanoparticle tracking analysis. The levels of miR-30c, polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 7 (GALNT7) and proteins in PI3K/AKT pathway were determined using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction or western blot. Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interferon-γ (IFN-γ) levels and the cytotoxicity of effector NK cells to target lung cancer cells were measured via enzyme linked immunosorbent assay, cell apoptosis or xenograft experiments. The relationship between miR-30c and GALNT7 was analyzed by luciferase activity, RNA pull-down and RNA immunoprecipitation assays. And a xenograft mice model was established to verify the effect of miR-30c in regulating NK cell cytotoxicity to lung cancer cells in vivo. Results NK cell-derived exosomes carrying miR-30c, and miR-30c level was significantly downregulated in primary NK cells of lung cancer patients. MiR-30c overexpression promoted TNF-α and IFN-γ secretion and enhanced the cytotoxicity of interleukin 2 (IL-2)-treated NK cells to lung cancer cells, while knockdown of miR-30c played an opposite effect in regulating the cytotoxicity of NK cells to lung cancer cells. GALNT7 was a target of miR-30c and was negatively regulated by miR-30c. Besides, miR-30c targeted GALNT7 to exert its function in regulating NK cell cytotoxicity. Furthermore, GALNT7 prompted the activation of PI3K/AKT pathway in NK cells. Additionally, miR-30c overexpression enhanced NK cell cytotoxicity to lung cancer cells and inhibited tumor growth in vivo. Conclusion miR-30c enhanced NK cell cytotoxicity to lung cancer cells via decreasing GALNT7 and inactivating the PI3K/AKT pathway, suggesting that regulating miR-30c expression maybe a promising approach for enhancing NK cell-based antitumor therapies.
Synthesis and Characterization of Iridium-Containing Green Phosphorescent Polymers for PLEDs

Two series of new green phosphorescent polymers bearing a bis(2-phenyl-pyridine)iridium(III)(dibenzoylmethane) [$(ppy)_2Irdbm$] complex were designed and synthesized. Poly-carbazole (PCbz) derivative or polyfluorene with pendant carbazole groups (PFCbz) were employed as host polymers for the iridium complex. The iridium complex monomer was copolymerized with the host monomers using varying monomer ratios via a Yamamoto coupling reaction. Efficient energy transfer from host to dopant unit was observed by increasing the ratio of the iridium guest in the copolymers. Electroluminescent devices with the configuration ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/BmPyPB/LiF/Al were fabricated and characterized. The phosphorescent polymers composed of the iridium complex guest and polyfluorene with carbazole pendants as a host performed better than the polymers composed of the same guest and the main chain polycarbazole host. A maximum external quantum efficiency of 0.73%, a luminous efficiency of 1.21 cd/A, and a maximum luminance of 372 $cd/m^2$ were obtained from a device fabricated using one of the synthesized copolymers.
