In this study we explored the possibility of performing nuclear transfer in the domestic cat and assessed the ability of different culture media to support in vitro development of reconstructed cat embryos. Donor somatic cells were derived from cultured cumulus cells or explants of oviduct tissue, and recipient cytoplasts from in vitro matured oocytes. A higher percentage of cleavage (84.6% and 86.5%) and development to the morula stage (35.9% and 44.2%) was found when reconstructed embryos receiving cumulus or oviduct cells were cultured in MK1 medium, compared with those cultured in CR1aa (58.7% and 72.5%, 13.8% and 13.6%, respectively). There was no significant difference between MK1 and CR1aa media with respect to the proportion developing to the blastocyst stage (15.4% and 17.3% vs 6.8% and 8.6%, respectively, p>0.05). There was no significant effect (p>0.05) of donor cell type (cumulus and oviduct cells) on the rates of fusion (65.0% and 52.5%), cleavage (84.6% and 86.5%), development to the morula (35.9% and 44.2%), and blastocyst (15.4% and 17.3%) stages when reconstructed embryos were cultured in MK1 medium. Similar results were found for the reconstructed embryos cultured in CR1aa medium. These results show that culture medium has a significant impact on the early development of reconstructed cat embryos, whereas donor cell type does not have a significant effect.
Psychosocial Reaction and Trauma After a Natural Disaster: The Role of Coping Behavior
Adi Fahrudin 한국사회복지학회 2012 Asian Social Work and Policy Review Vol.6 No.3
This study examined the relationship between psychosocial reaction, coping behavior and traumaamong natural disaster survivors in West Java, Indonesia. One hundred and one subjects werestudied. The roles of coping behavior as a moderating factor were also tested. Psychosocial reactionduring disaster and coping behavior were significantly correlated with trauma. Hierarchical regressionanalysis found that coping behavior was a significant potential moderating variable in termsof correlation between psychosocial reaction and trauma after a natural disaster.

The objective of this study was to analyse the relationship between family characteristics and thetrauma associated with the duration and frequency of sexual assault on child survivors in the stateof Sabah, Malaysia. Eighty children who reported sexual assault through a one stop crisis centre inan urban hospital were studied. The main research instrument used was adapted from the traumasymptoms checklist for children. The results of the study show that there are significant differencesbetween the symptoms of trauma of victims according to the frequency of sexual assault, but notaccording to its duration. Social workers need both to understand and to take note of the relationshipof the variables of family characteristics, frequency of sexual assault and trauma effects on thevictims in their intervention work with child sexual assault survivors who report having beenabused. The implications of these findings are discussed in the context of providing crisis interventionby social workers in Malaysia for child victims of sexual assault.
Preparing Social Work Students for Working with Disaster Survivors
Adi Fahrudin 한국사회복지학회 2012 Asian Social Work and Policy Review Vol.6 No.2
This paper is an overview of disaster social work and preparing social work students for workingwith disaster survivors. Disaster has common immediate, and medium- and long-term problemsand needs. Experiences from various countries throughout the world suggest a range of helpingroles and tasks that social work is suited for. A social work professional has particular expertise inunderstanding and addressing the immediate, and medium- and longer term effects of loss on individuals, families, and communities affected by a disaster. In preparing social work students forworking with disaster survivors, social work programs do not introduce enough subject matteror course work about disasters. Practice training, field work, collaboration work, and communityservice in disaster relief are important academic environments for social work students when learningand practising in disaster settings.

The present study examined the ability of people with substance-dependence problems to copewith stressful events and refrain from resuming alcohol drinking and the use of drugs. This studyspecifically examined the length of time that substance abusing-residents spent in a state-owned,residential-based therapeutic community program at Lembang-Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. A study sample of 68 residents completed a questionnaire with four sections. The results of thisstudy showed no significant differences in the scores rating the coping behavior of the residentsaccording to the length of stay in the program. This study also found no significant differencesin the Coping Behavioral Inventory scores of the residents according to the level scores of totalCoping Strategy Inventory. It is important for social workers to understand the relationshipbetween the length of stay of residents and their ability to cope so that they can effectively engagein intervention work with individuals with substance-dependence issues who participate in thetherapeutic community.
Occupational Stress and Psychological Well-Being in Emergency Services

Sources of occupational stress and their impact on job satisfaction and psychological well-beingwere examined in a questionnaire survey of 617 Malaysian firefighters. The role of coping strategiesand work motivation as moderating factors were also tested. Sources of occupational stress hadsignificant reverse correlations with job satisfaction and well-being. The hierarchical regressionanalysis was used to examine the moderating effect of work motivation and coping strategieson job satisfaction and psychological well-being. The result suggested that coping strategies andwork motivation are one of the potential moderating variables between sources of stress and jobsatisfaction.

Background: Conditioned medium is the medium obtained from certain cultured cells and contained secretome from the cells. The secretome, which can be in the form of growth factors, cytokines, exosomes, or other proteins secreted by the cells, can induce the differentiation of cells that still have pluripotent or multipotent properties. Objectives: This study examined the effects of conditioned medium derived from E17 rat brain cells on cells with pluripotent properties. Methods: The conditioned medium used in this study originated from E17 rat brain cells. The CM was used to induce the differentiation of primary colonies of mice blastocysts. Primary colonies were stained with alkaline phosphatase to analyze the pluripotency. The morphological changes in the colonies were examined, and the colonies were stained with GFAP and Neu-N markers on days two and seven after adding the conditioned medium. Results: The conditioned medium could differentiate the primary colony, beginning with the formation of embryoid-body-like structure; round GFAP positive cells were identified. Finally, neuron-like cells testing positive for Neu-N were observed on the seventh day after adding the conditioned medium. Conclusions: Conditioned medium from different species, in this case, E17 rat brain cells, induced and promoted the differentiation of the primary colony from mice blastocysts into neuron-like cells. The addition of CM mediated neurite growth in the differentiation process.
