      • Women Vulnerability to Climate Change

Farida Abubakari 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 2017 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 학술대회자료집 Vol.2017 No.7

Ghana s geographical location makes it particularly vulnerable to climate change. Climate change in Ghana has led to an increase of the temperatures, frequency, and severity of extreme weather phenomena, flood, and a general decrease in rainfall. Women constitute about 80% of the agricultural work force and they do a lot of physical work especially in extreme high temperatures, which have long-term consequences on their health and fatigue levels and affect agricultural productivity and sustainable farming. Temperatures could reach about 41 degrees and could increase the risk of cardiovascular or heart diseases, death and meningitis illness, especially among women farmers in the Northern part of Ghana. Pregnant women as well as their babies are also exposed to cholera, malaria and sometimes they become homeless when the place gets flooded with water. In addition, as food shortage becomes more severe and frequent, the health of women suffers a lot as they often reduce how much they eat and sacrifice their diets for other family members. This paper, therefore, attempts to reveal how climate change affects the health of vulnerable women/farmers in Ghana.

      • Comparative Analysis of the Dynamics of Knowledge-intensive Industries in Eurasian Space

Farida ALZHANOVA,Aslanbek AMRIN,Zhanar DYUSSEBAYEVA,Marat URDABAYEV 한국유통과학회 2018 KODISA ICBE (International Conference on Business Vol.2018 No.-

The object of the research - economy of the countries of the Eurasian Space. In this study we propose a methodology for assessing the level of knowledge driven economy, which will allow us to consider different sections and components of the knowledge-based economy. This methodology is not intended to provide a comprehensive analysis of the knowledge-based economy. It is aimed to provide understanding of the relationship of the main components of a knowledge-based economy for economic policy of Kazakhstan. The following approaches are proposed. The first approach is measurement of the level of science intensity of GDP based on the share of R&D expenditure to GDP. The second approach is estimation of the share of high - and medium-technology industries in GDP. The third approach – assessment of the share of high-tech services in GDP. The fourth approach is the valuation of intangible assets in the structure of national wealth. The fifth approach is the assessment of human resources employed in knowledge-intensive industries and enterprises. In this study, the evaluation produced three main approaches.

Knowledge Distribution in the Science and Technology Space(Case of the Eurasian Economic Union)

        Farida ALZHANOVA,Gulnaz ALIBEKOVA,Farkhat DNISHEV,Nazyken BAGAYEVA 한국유통과학회 2023 유통과학연구 Vol.21 No.9

Purpose: The article aims to assess the possibilities and contribution of countries to the creation and distribution of knowledge circulating in the scientific and technological space of the EAEU. Research design, data, and methodology: To understand the conditions and possibilities for the distribution of knowledge, the methodology of the quality of economic space used. The space is considered through density, placement, connectedness, and asymmetry. Used bibliometric analysis, balance of payments analysis, and integration indicators. Results: The study showed that low barriers, including language, created visible advantages in the mutual distribution of knowledge. However, the geo-technological space of the EAEU is polarised and has differences in the density and distribution of scientific resources. Asymmetries are shown in the distance between countries in multidirectional trends. Cooperation between countries has a different level of interaction. Conclusions: The internal resources of the geo-technological space of the EAEU are limited, and most of the needs are covered by external sources. Some mechanisms of the scientific policy of countries in scientific careers act as «demotivates» for distributing knowledge within the EAEU. Countries need to improve the quality of services and trade data to better understand technology distribution processes through bilateral channels.

Extraction of naphthalene. Optimization and application to an industrial rejected fuel oil

Farida Bendebane,Lamya Bouziane,Fadhel Ismail 한국공업화학회 2010 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.16 No.2

The extraction efficiency of naphthalene from an organic phase depends essentially on the choice of extractant. It can be enhanced through the optimization of operating parameters. The organic phase studied was a fuel oil rejected at the process end of the coke gas treatment in an industrial plant of Annaba (Algeria). Themixture ofmethanol–phenol has been selected as extractant for its best efficiency. The amount of naphthalene in the oil phase was analyzed by refractometry and verified by infrared spectroscopy. The temperature, the density of methanol–phenol mixture and the quantity of extractant, were considered as the main parameters which affect the performance of extraction. Response surface methodology was applied to investigate the yield of extraction. A Box-Behnken design was used to produce models for objective responses based on parameters that have significant probabilities. It was developed by using these three main parameters at three levels. Analysis of variance showed that temperature and the volume ratio are the most affecting parameters on extraction yield. The developed regression equations described interdependencies between the input parameters and yield of extraction as responses. The results that were treated statistically were very interesting and allowed to deduce the optimum conditions for the best extraction efficiency which was in order to 80.38%. The application of extraction in these conditions has permitted to regenerate the fuel oil rejected by the industrial unit for other uses. The phenol–methanol mixture containing naphthalene can also be regenerated (91.8% of methanol and 94.2% of phenol) and more than 1 ton of pure naphthalene per day can be recovered. This could be very important for the industrial unit on decreasing the cost of the fuel consumption and more profits by producing pure naphthalene.

What Determines Work Discipline and Performance?: An Empirical Study in Indonesia

Kiki Farida FERINE,Reza ADITIA,Muhammad Fitri RAHMADANA 한국유통과학회 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.2

The purpose of this research is to look into the effects of organizational culture and training and development on work discipline and performance. The data for this study was directly obtained from employees of a municipal water corporation in Medan, Indonesia, with a total of 204 participants. Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was applied for data analysis. The results showed that organizational culture and training and development positively and significantly affect performance. However, organizational culture and training & development positively affect employees’ work discipline, albeit insignificantly. The findings of this study suggest that organizational culture and training and development play a critical role in shaping work discipline and performance in organizations in Indonesian settings. Therefore, the finding of this research engage all leaders in the organization to conduct training and development more intensively. Although it seems to have costly, this will have a good impact on the organization in the long run. Furthermore, the authors also suggest the creation of a solid organizational culture for every organization to foster excellent performance. However, each organization should choose its own acceptable organizational culture because it is possible that the organizational culture that works in one context does not work in another.

IMPORT LIBERALIZATION IN A DEVELOPING COUNTRY WITH IMPORT INTENSIVE INDUSTRY : THE CASE OF BANGLADESH

KHAN, FARIDA C. 한국국제경제학회 1994 International Economic Journal Vol.8 No.1

This paper examines the effect of import liberalization in Bangladesh using a modestly disaggregated numerical general equilibrium model. Because intermediate goods account for a major share of imports, the removal of import restrictions has an overwhelming effect on the supply side of the economy. The domestic manufacturing sector is found to expand, particularly the manufacture of exportables. Sensitivity of the results obtained is tested by perturbing certain key parameters. Additional related results are discussed. [F1, O5]

ALZHANOVA, Farida G.,KIREYEVA, Anel A.,SATPAYEVA, Zaira Т,.,TSOY, Alexander A.,NURBATSIN, Akan Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.12

The purpose of this study is to analyze the level of science and technology development and digital readiness of scientific research institutes based on the author's assessment methodology (a set of evaluations and multifactorial indicators). Keeping with the previous literature, the research is caused by the novelty of the problem, which suggests dividing the literature review into two main research groups: theoretical background, which concentrates on the digital readiness definition, and the impact of digital readiness on science. Moreover, the scientific significance lies in the fact that proposed ideas in the research, developed theoretical and methodological provisions can significantly enrich theories related to the identification of the digital readiness of science and its consumers. Further, the research is devoted to the development of assessment methods of digital changes and analysis of the level of development of digital readiness of scientific research institutes, which is based on the author's assessment methodology (a set of evaluations and multifactorial indicators). The methodology provides an opportunity to build ratings of the digital readiness of scientific-research institutes to the formation and development of a digital economy. Obtained results show that the priority task in the current and the future period is to increase the authority and recognition of scientific organizations, the quality of scientific research, and the formation of demand for scientific products.
