Haplodiploid sex determination occurs in a wide range of animals, especially in Hymenoptera, where a fertilized egg develops into a diploid female and unfertilized into a haploid male. However, recent studies on diploid functional males in some wasps suggest that the simple addition of paternal gene by fertilization may not be enough to explain female offspring production in the sex determination system. Recently, activation of sex determination gene (tra) was found to have a pivotal role in determining the sex of Nasonia vitripennis. In N. vitripennis, tra is activated only on the paternal genome (i.e. sperm) not on the maternal counterpart (i.e. egg). Such parent specific activation of a gene is controlled by a epigenetic factor, DNA methylation. However, in Trichogramma kaykai, Wolbachia induces female offspring production without sperm. Therefore all female offspring are clonal to the maternal gene. This violates the role of activated sex determination gene (tra) from sperm in the wasp. We hypothesize that Wolbachia has an ability to activate the gene by demethylation. This hypothesis indicates that the target of sex ratio distorting endosymbionts may be an upstream gene. It will enhance our understanding of evolution of haplodiploid sex determination.
미혼모의 임신 기간 중 심리사회적 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구

목적 본 연구는 미혼모가 임신기간 중 겪는 심리사회적 경험을 현상학적 연구방법으로 분석한 질적 연구로서 다양한 배경을 가진 미혼모들이 임신 중 체험하는 공통된 심리사회적 경험을 이해할 수 있는 것에 의의가 있다. 방법 본 연구의 연구대상은 대구 경북지역에 거주하며 결혼하지 않은 상태에서 출산을 경험한 후 미취학 아동을 양육하고 있는 미혼모 8명이다. 본 연구를 위한 자료 수집은 각 참여자와 1회, 1시간 반에서 2시간 이내의 반구조화 된 심층 인터뷰를 통해 수집되었고, 수집된 자료는 Giorgi의 현상학적 체험 연구방법으로 분석되었다. 결과 분석결과, 6개의 구성요소와 16개의 하위 구성요소가 도출되었다. 6개의 구성요소는 ‘임신, 위기적인 몸의 변화’, ‘충격, 위기임신의 충격에 압도됨’, ‘복합적 갈등관계, 아이아빠’, ‘혼전임신, 사회적 편견에 대한 두려움’, ‘책임감, 한 인간으로서 아이에 대한 책임’이었다. 몸의 변화로부터 임신을 지각하게된 미혼모는 심리적 충격에 압도되고, 아이 아빠와 관계 갈등을 겪는 한편, 사회적 편견으로 어려움을 겪지만, 태아에 대한 모성을 키우며 출산과 양육을 선택한다. 결론 이에 따른 미혼모의 심리사회적 체험의 본질은 ‘예기치 못한 임신으로 인한 다양한 내적갈등과 아이 아빠를 비롯한 복잡한 사회적 관계들과의 갈등과 단절 및 위기 속에서도 모로서 느낀 책임으로 임신을 유지함’으로 도출하였다. Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the psycho-social experience of unmarried mothers. Methods In-depth interviews were carried about with 8 unmarried single mothers living in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region and collected data were analyzed by Giorgi s phenomenological experiential research method. Results As a result of the analysis, six components and sixteen sub ordinate components were derived from this study. The six components were ‘Pregnancy, Critical Body Change’, ‘Shocked, Being Overwhelmed by Crisis Pregnancy’, ‘Conflict, Ambivalent Suffering from Crisis Pregnancy’, ‘Complex Conflictual Relationship with Father of Baby’, ‘Premarriage-pregnancy, Anxiety of Social Prejudice’, ‘Responsibility, The Responsibility for The Baby as a Humanbeing’. Conclusions This study is meaningful for understanding the nature of unmarried single mothers’ psycho-social experiences in their pregnant period and contributed to support psychological counseling or establish policies for unmarried single mothers.

Fluorinated gases (F-gases), such as CHF3 and C2F6, which are used in the semiconductor industry and have considerable global warming potential, can be recovered after use through a gas hydrate-based separation method to prevent their release into the atmosphere. In this study, the guest distributions and dissociation enthalpy (ΔHd) of F-gas (CHF3 or C2F6)+N2 hydrates with different F-gas concentrations (CHF3: 20%, 80%, and 100% and C2F6: 20%, 60%, 80%, and 100%) were experimentally investigated using a powder X-ray diffractometer and a high-pressure micro-differential scanning calorimeter, respectively. At high N2 concentrations in the feed gas, the occupancy of N2 in the small (512) cages of the F-gas+N2 hydrates increased significantly. As a result, the F-gas+N2 hydrates exhibited reduced hydration numbers at high N2 concentration. The ΔHd values (in kJ/mol gas) of the F-gas (CHF3 or C2F6)+N2 hydrates decreased with increased N2 concentration. The overall experimental results provide useful insights into the design and operation of gas hydrate-based F-gas separation processes.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We developed electrochemical microfluidic devices containing Au-Ag bimetallic nanoparticles on single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) electrodes for precise, rapid and non-enzymatic electrochemical detection of hydrogen peroxide (H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>). A homogeneous SWCNT layer on a glass substrate was patterned by a standard photolithography method and an O<SUB>2</SUB>-plasma technique. The patterned SWCNT layers were used as working electrode, counter electrode, and reference electrode in a 1mm wide and 23μm deep microchannel. To enhance the electrochemical catalytic properties of the working electrode, Au covered Ag nanoparticles (NPs) were electrochemically deposited on the SWCNT working electrode with current streaming solution into a microfluidic channel. The AgNPs had catalytic activity to improve the reduction of H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> combined with AuNPs, which could support catalytic reaction of AgNPs. The reduction in H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> in fabricated devices was monitored at an optimized condition and was linear with H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> concentration, resulting in a sensitivity of 13.1μA·cm<SUP>−2</SUP>·mM<SUP>−1</SUP>, a correlation coefficient of r<SUP>2</SUP> =0.985, and limit of detection 26.8μM (S/N=3). For the analysis of real samples, diluted antiseptic solutions containing 3wt% H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> were used to determine the concentration of H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> in the pharmaceutical sample. The recovery values ranged from 97% to 107%, and relative standard deviations were below 5%. 간호대학생의 성역할정체감 유형 탐색: Q 방법론적 접근

Purpose: This study was done to identify types and characteristics of gender role identity from the perspectives of nursing students who experience challenges and maladjustments that are distinct from students in other departments because nursing students have a curriculum that includes both academic courses and clinical practice. Methods: Q Methodology was used to examine differences in the meaning of gender role identity among individual students. Data from 40 women nursing students, using 40 Q samples representing masculinity and femininity, were collected and analyzed. Results: The participants’ responses were classified into three types: ``Affectionate-sensitive type`` represented by those who share traditional Korean feminine characteristics and are delicately sensitive. ``Affectionate-assertive type`` represented by those who have strong characteristics of warm leaders, and are responsive and confident. ``Sensitive-expressive type`` represented by those who are excellent in communication and have high empathic ability. Conclusion: Nursing professors or counselors need to provide nursing students with guidance and counseling related to adaptation to school life, career exploration, and career choice based on the their type of gender role identity.
