This research tried to examine how the love style is changed as the psychological tendency specifying individual personality types that other domestic and foreign researches have overlooked all this while. The subjects of this study were the college students and white and blue-collar employees. The instruments used in this study were the Love Attitude Scale and the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator). When applying the MBTI and the Love Attitude Scale, 474 people were analyzed. To get the result, the data from the survey were processed by the statistical program, SPSS/PC^+. Specifically, the statistical methods employed in this study were frequency, percentile, mean, standard deviation, factor analysis and chi-square. The major findings are as follows: 1. The most frequent love style among single men and women in this study was the Eros(46.6%). The next frequent love style was the Storge (40.3%). The Ludus occupied the least portion (13.1%) among single men and women. 2. The personality types over 10% among 16 personality types of MBTI were ISTJ (Introverted Sensing Type) (19.4%), ESTJ (Extraverted Sensing Type) (13.1%), and ISTP (Introverted Thinking Type) (12.4%). 3. As a result of observing the relationship of the love style and the psychological tendency among single men and women, the love style was found to have relationship with TF preference (Judgement Function) and JP preference (Life Style). However, there were no relationships with the love style and EI preference (Focus of Energy), SN preference (Perception Function).
Starburst amacrine cells express parvalbumin but not calbindin and calretinin in rabbit retina

Calcium-binding proteins (CBPs) are important components in calcium-mediated cellular signal transduction. Among the many CBPs, at least three EF-hand CBPs, calbindin-D28K (CB), calretinin (CR), and parvalbumin (PV), have been extensively studied in the retina. In the present study, we investigated the expression patterns of these three CBPs in cholinergic starburst amacrine cells (SACs), which are the most important element for direction selectivity in the rabbit retina. Double-label immunocytochemical analysis of vibratome sections and single-cell injection after immunocytochemical analysis on whole mounts were carried out in rabbit retinas. We found that all SACs in the inner nuclear layer and the ganglion cell layer contained PV. However, none of the SACs in the inner nuclear layer or ganglion cell layer contained either CB or CR. These results suggest that PV, but not CR or CB, may act as a calcium-buffering protein in the SACs of the rabbit retina.

The therapeutic potential of phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitors in inflammatory diseases including some autoimmune diseases has been explored recently with some hopeful results. These PDE4 inhibitors are thought to show their anti-inflammatory effect by down-regulating tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF -α) production in lymphocytes and macrophages. A high concentration of TNF -α have been found in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) synovium and reducing TNF -α using biological agents was proven to be an effective RA treatment. To test the possibility of using PDE4 inhibitors for RA treatment, the effects of a newly synthesized PDE4 inhibitor, DWP205505, on TNF -α and IL-10 production was tested in cells isolated from normal peripheral blood and rheumatoid arthritis synovial fluid. Cytokine production was assayed at the protein level by sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and at the mRNA expression level by semi-quantitative RT-PCR. Another PDE4 inhibitor, RP73401, was used for comparison. DWP205505 and RP73401 had no harmful effect on cell viability up to 10 μM concentration during the 24 hour culture period. DWP205505 as well as RP73401 significantly reduced TNF -α secretion from both unstimulated and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated perpheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) and synovial fluid mononuclear cells (SFMC). The effect of DWP205505 or RP73401 treatment on the mRNA expression of TNF -α was also studied in LPS-stimulated PBMC and SFMC. TNF -α mRNA expression was increased by LPS stimulation and both of the PDE4 inhibitors suppressed TNF -α mRNA expression. For interleukin-10 (IL-10), a little different results were obtained from PBMC and SFMC; IL-10 secretion was unaffected by LPS stimulation and only minimally affected by both of the PDE4 inhibitors in PBMC. In unstimulated SFMC, DWP205505 and RP73401 slightly enhanced IL-10 secretion, while they reduced IL-10 secretion from LPS-stimulated SFMC where IL-10 secretion was a lot higher than unstimulated SFMC. These results suggest that the newly synthesized PDE4 inhibitor DWP205505 may have anti-rheumatioid arthritis activity. (Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology 9(1):106-112, 1999)
Transplantation of Bone Marrow-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells into the Developing Mouse Eye

<P>Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been studied widely for their potential to differentiate into various lineage cells including neural cells <I>in vitro</I> and <I>in vivo</I>. To investigate the influence of the developing host environment on the integration and morphological and molecular differentiation of MSCs, human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) were transplanted into the developing mouse retina. Enhanced green fluorescent protein (GFP)-expressing BM-MSCs were transplanted by intraocular injections into mice, ranging in ages from 1 day postnatal (PN) to 10 days PN. The survival dates ranged from 7 days post-transplantation (DPT) to 28DPT, at which time an immunohistochemical analysis was performed on the eyes. The transplanted BM-MSCs survived and showed morphological differentiation into neural cells and some processes within the host retina. Some transplanted cells expressed microtubule associated protein 2 (MAP2ab, marker for mature neural cells) or glial fibrillary acid protein (GFAP, marker for glial cells) at 5PN 7DPT. In addition, some transplanted cells integrated into the developing retina. The morphological and molecular differentiation and integration within the 5PN 7DPT eye was greater than those of other-aged host eye. The present findings suggest that the age of the host environment can strongly influence the differentiation and integration of BM-MSCs.</P>

<P>To examine the relationship between birth characteristics and childhood cancer mortality, a retrospective cohort study of Korean children was conducted using data collected by the national birth register between 1995 and 2006, which were then individually linked to death data. A cohort of 6,479,406 children was followed from birth until their death or until December 31, 2006. Poisson regression analyses were used to calculate rate ratios of childhood cancer deaths according to birth characteristics. A total of 1,469 cancer deaths were noted and the childhood cancer mortality rate was found to be 3.43 per 100,000 person-years in Korea during the period of 1995-2006. The birth characteristics examined in this study (i.e. , birth weight, gestational age, multiple births, parental ages, and number of siblings) were generally found to be not significantly associated with childhood cancer mortality, and the associations did not vary meaningfully with gender nor with cancer sites. However, among children aged 5-11 yr, higher birth weight was associated with elevated childhood cancer mortality (rate ratio = 1.28, 95% confidence interval 1.04-1.58). Our results offer no overall associations between childhood cancer mortality and birth characteristics, but suggest that the association may be specific to age group.</P>

This essay reads James Joyce`s Ulysses as a narrative of myth-and-city space. Through this reading, colonial metropolis Dublin, the central subject of this novel, is interpreted as a space where two different time-related spaces-one of which as a historical mythic space and the other as contemporary modern city space-are colliding against each other and producing the moment of `dialectical perspective.` This `dialectical perspective` can be used to offer a revolutionary insight to contemporary people, including those who have been and are being oppressed by state, nation, empire, religion, class, gender or any kind of authoritative power and oppressive history, to change the present politics and society. This revolutionary insight, or awakening from the deceitful social structure or mythic reality could be the first political action practiced by any people who hope the advent of a new utopian community `here and now.` In Ulysses, created by exiled and adult Joyce, who constructs `immediate past` of Dublin through retrospective position, modern metropolis and metropolitan lifestyle are superimposed on mythical environment, which seems to produce various momentums of `dialectical images.` Not only do some characters of the novel show this process of immersing in melancholic, oppressive personal/collective unconsciousness ultimately to awaken from it, but narrative technique and structural style themselves, which are intersected and overlapped throughout the entire work, also contribute to creating this perspective. Dublin as a mythic world and modern city space seems to provide us with a potentiality of moments of this awakening. And this is the strength of narrative strategy of Ulysses, which creates this great actual and literary text.
