We report the expression, purification, and characterization of L-asparaginase (AnsA) from Rhizobium etli. The enzyme was purified to homogeneity in a single-step procedure involving affinity chromatography, and the kinetic parameters Km, Vmax, and kcat for L-asparagine were determined. The enzymatic activity in the presence of a number of substrates and metal ions was investigated. The molecular mass of the enzyme was 47 kDa by SDS-PAGE. The enzyme showed a maximal activity at 50oC, but the optimal temperature of activity was 37oC. It also showed maximal and optimal activities at pH 9.0. The values of Km, Vmax, kcat, and kcat/Km were 8.9±0.967×10-3 M, 128±2.8 U/mg protein, 106±2 s-1, and 1.2±0.105×104M-1s-1, respectively. The L-asparaginase activity was reduced in the presence of Mn2+, Zn2+, Ca2+, and Mg2+ metal ions for about 52% to 31%. In addition, we found that NH4 +, L-Asp, D-Asn, and β-aspartyl-hydroxamate in the reaction buffer reduced the activity of the enzyme, whereas L-Gln did not modify its enzymatic activity. This is the first report on the expression and characterization of the L-asparaginase (AnsA) from R. etli. Phylogenetic analysis of asparaginases reveals an increasing group of known sequences of the Rhizobialtype asparaginase II family.
Regional Equilibrium and Migration Patterns in the Americas 1960-2005

This paper analyzes the migration dynamics in the Americas from 1960 to 2005 using an equilibrium approach. The migration flow is evaluated using spatial econometrics techniques and controlling for the labor mobility effect and regional wages. Additionally, the estimated model looks for variations in migration by taking into account the distinctive population features in each country, namely the working age population, unemployment rate and relative wages. The estimated model shows that the spatial equilibrium related to net migration is negatively affected by wages and positively influenced by labor supply in the region.

The aim of the present work was to examine the putative promoter region of the operon ansPAB and to determine the general elements required for the regulation of transcriptional activity. The transcriptional start site of the ansPAB promoter was determined by using highresolution S1-nuclease mapping. Sequence analysis of this region showed -10 and -35 elements, which were consistent with consensus sequences for R. etli promoters that are recognized by the major form of RNA polymerase containing the σ70 transcription factor. Mutation studies affecting several regions located upstream of the transcriptional start site confirmed the importance of these elements on transcriptional expression.
Blockchain Innovation Technology for Corruption Decrease in Mexico

This research is based on the scope that the disruptive technology known as Blockchain has to face corruption in different phases and spheres of government. This technological method is increasing its acceptance in various socio-economic aspects in recent years, the paper's emphasis is placed on Mexico, and nevertheless it practically can be used to reduce corruption in all countries around the world. The materials and method carried out for this research was a literature review in diverse databases with the most recent literature where some applications, uses and hypothetical cases of the implementation of Blockchain within the government framework in order to reduce corruption were highlighted. The results of this research suggest that the Mexican government can reduce some types of corruption, especially those related to money and collusions, such as biddings/government tenders, government procurement and acquisitions, audits in government agencies, in the embezzlement or diversion of funds, as well as in land registration.

국가별 기업생태계경쟁은 창조성, 시장성, 생산성의 3요소를 선순환으로 만들어가는 기업가정신과 재투자의 과정이다. 과거 원가경쟁력을 기반으로 한 한국의 기업생태계는 중국 등 신흥경쟁국들의 등장으로 구조전환기에 있다. 이제 연구개발과 창조성 없이 신흥경쟁국들과 차별적으로 경쟁하기 어렵다. 한국 기업생태계는 높아진 국민소득만큼의 고비용구조에도 불구하고 건강한 기업생태계를 만들어가는 새로운 노력이 필요하다. 이에 독일과 일본과의 기업생태계 건강성 비교를 통해 한국 기업생태계에의 시사점을 얻고자 하였다. 기업생태계 건강성의 평가 모델로서 HeBEx(Healthiness of Business Ecosystem Index)를 개발하였으며, 이를 측정 모델로 하여 각 변수별 국가자료를 OECD, World Bank 등에서 수집하고 분석하였다. 이를 바탕으로 HeBEx의 각 요소를 시간흐름에 따른 종단적 분석과 한국, 독일, 일본간 횡단적 분석을 통해 전략적 시사점으로 얻고자 하였다. 이 분석은 한국 경제가 저성장 경제로 전환함에 따라, 지속 가능한 경제 발전을 위한 새로운 성장 동력발견의 시사점을 제공해 주었다. 한국의 기업생태계는 높은 연구개발투입으로 창조성에서 성공한 나라이지만, 글로벌시장개척을 나타내는 시장성에서 실패하여 연구개발 패러독스의 모습이 보이고 있다. 이에 비해 독일은 창조성을 시장성으로 연결하여 건강한 기업생태계구조를 보이고 있다. 그러므로 연구개발과 혁신에 성공한 한국의 기업생태계들은 이를 상용화하고 글로벌 시장개척을 통해 개발의 시장화라는 선순환노력이 필요하다. In the race of economies pitting against each other, some have managed to rise above the competition not by responding to others`` actions but by creating a new condition that will reshape the industry in their favor. For the past few decades, Korea has been able to achieve constant growth (Bae and Rowley, 2004; Dana, 2007; Waechter and Ratten, 2007). To cope with unstable environments, Korea has chosen to continually design technological and organizational architectures aside from simply innovating new products. The Healthiness of Business Ecosystems Index (HeBEx) conceptualized a model for measuring business health, and also operationalized it. This study used HeBEx as a basis of comparison for Korea, Germany, and Japan. Based on the results, this research points out the strengths and weaknesses of the Korean Economy, and suggests some courses of action towards achieving sustainable growth. As Korea``s economy has turned into a low-growth economy, Korea needs to find new growth engines for sustainable economy development. Taking cue from Germany and Japan, Korea needs to focus on the development of advanced technology, and accelerate commercialization of R&D outcome.
Seed Dispersal by Water, Wind, Birds, and Bats in the Caliraya Watershed, Laguna

Seed dispersal supports community structure, maintains genetic connectivity across fragmented landscapes, and influences vegetation assemblages. In the Philippines, only two seed dispersal studies have compared different dispersal agents. We examined the seed dispersal patterns of water, wind, birds, and bats in the Caliraya Watershed, Philippines. We aimed to determine the floral species that were dispersed and how the forest characteristics influenced seed dispersal. By running seed rain traps and drift litter collection from March to June 2022, we analyzed 14,090 seeds in a privately owned study site within the watershed. Water did not exclusively disperse any species and acted as a secondary disperser. Seed density (seeds/trap) was significantly higher for bird-dispersed (n=166) and bat-dispersed (n=145) seeds than for wind-dispersed (n=79) seeds (One-way analysis of variance [ANOVA]: F<sub>2,87</sub>=16.21, P<0.0001). Species number (species/trap) was significantly higher for bird-dispersed (n=3.7) and bat-dispersed (n=3.9) seeds than for wind-dispersed (n=0.2) seeds (One-way ANOVA: F<sub>2,87</sub> =16.67, P<0.0001). Birds dispersed more species because they are more diverse and access a wider variety of fruits, unlike bats. Birds and bats target different fruits and provide separate seed dispersal services. Generalized linear model analyses revealed that the number and basal area of fleshy fruit trees most strongly influenced the bird seed dispersal patterns. Therefore, we recommend a three-way approach to restoration efforts in the Caliraya Watershed: (1) ensure the presence of fleshy fruit trees in restoration zones, (2) assist the establishment of mid-successional and wind-dispersed trees, and (3) intensify the conservation efforts for both flora and faunal diversity.
