Helicobacter pylori Infection and Peptic Ulcer Disease in Patients with Liver Cirrhosis

Background/Aims: We investigated the prevalence and relationship of peptic ulcer disease and Helicobacter pylori infection to liver cirrhosis. Methods: We examined 288 patients with liver cirrhosis, 322 patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia, and 339 patients with peptic ulcer disease. Rapid urease test and Wright-Giemsa staining were used for diagnosis of H. pylori infection. Results: The prevalence of peptic ulcer disease in patients with cirrhosis was 24.3%. The prevalence of peptic ulcer disease in patients with cirrhosis divided into Child-Pugh classes A, B, and C was 22.3%, 21.0%, and 31.3%, respectively (p>0.05). The prevalence of H. pylori infection in the patients with cirrhosis, non-ulcer dyspepsia, and peptic ulcer without chronic liver disease were 35.1%, 62.4%, and 73.7%, respectively (p<0.001). The prevalence of H. pylori infection did not differ depending on whether there was peptic ulcer (35.6%) or not (34.9%) in patients with liver cirrhosis (p>0.05). The prevalence of H. pylori infection in patients with hepatitis virus-related liver cirrhosis and in the patients with alcohol-related liver cirrhosis was 42.5% and 22.0%, respectively (p<0.001). The prevalence of H. pylori infection in patients with Child-Pugh classes A, B, and C liver cirrhosis was 51.5%, 30.5%, and 20.0%, respectively (p<0.001). Conclusions: Factors other than H. pylori may be involved in the pathogenesis of peptic ulcer disease in the setting of liver cirrhosis.

The objective of this study is to investigate the dynamic deformation and fracture behavior of an oxide-dispersed tungsten heavy alloy fabricated by mechanical alloying. The tungsten alloy was processed by adding 0.1 wt.% Y₂O₃ powders during mechanical alloying in order to form fine oxides in tungsten/matrix interface. Dynamic torsional tests were conducted for this alloys, and then the test data were compared with those of a conventionally liquid-phase sintered specimen. The refinement of tungsten particles could be obtained after mechanical alloying and multi-step heat-treatment without an increase in volume fraction of the interfacial area between tungsten particles occurred over broad deformed areas in this alloy , expecting the low possibility of the shear band formation. Also, the oxide dispersion strengthening was effective in promoting the interfacial fracture since fine oxides acted as a initiation site of interfacial fracture. These findings suggested that the idea of forming fine oxides would be useful for improving the self-sharpening effect and the penetration performance of tungsten heavy alloys.
전자빔을 이용한 Poly(dimethyl siloxane)의 개질

본 연구에서는 전자빔을 이용하여 poly(dimethyl siloxane)(PDMS)을 개질하였으며 그 특성 변화를 분석하였다. PDMS 시트를 기존의 열경화법을 통해 제조한 후 20에서 200 kGy의 흡수선량으로 전자빔을 조사하였고, 조사된 시트들의 특성을 팽윤도 및 접촉각 측정, 만능시험분석기(UTM), 열중량분석기(TGA), X선 광전자 분광기(XPS)들을 이용하여 분석하였다. 팽윤도 측정, UTM 및 TGA 결과, 전자빔 조사에 의해 PDMS 시트의 가교 밀도가 증가함에 따라 조사된 PDMS 시트의 팽윤도는 순수한 것에 비해 최대 24%까지 감소하였고 압축강도와 열분해온도는 순수한 것에 대비 각각 최대 2.5 MPa와 10 ℃까지 증가함을 확인하였다. 또한, 접촉각 측정과 XPS 분석 결과를 토대로 전자빔 조사에 의한 산화 반응에 의하여 PDMS 표면에 친수성 관능기들이 형성되기 때문에 PDMS 표면의 젖음성은 순수한 것에 비해 최대 24%까지 향상됨을 확인하였다. In this paper, poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) was modified using electron beam irradiation and its property was investigated. PDMS sheets prepared using a conventional thermal curing method were irradiated by electron beams at absorbed doses between 20 and 200 kGy and their properties were characterized using swelling degree and contact angle measurements, universal testing machine (UTM), thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), and X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS). The results of the swelling degree measurements, UTM, and TGA revealed that the swelling degree of the irradiated PDMS sheets was reduced down to 24% in comparison to the control sheet, and their compression strength and thermal decomposition temperature increased up to maximum 2.5 MPa and 10 ℃, respectively, due to the increase in crosslinking density by irradiation. In addition, on the basis of the results of contact angle measurements and XPS, the wettability of the PDMS sheets was enhanced up to 24% owing to the generation of hydrophilic functional groups on the PDMS surface by oxidation during electron beam irradiation.

The compressive deformation behavior under dynamic loading was investigated using a high performance servo-hydraulic machine in order to evaluate experimentally impact absorption energies of extruded aluminum tubing for space frame. Dynamic compression tests were conducted for three extruded aluminum tubing whose thicknesses were 1.5 ㎜, 2.0 ㎜, and 3.0 ㎜, and then the test data were compared via observation of deformation mode. The results indicated that the dynamic deformation behavior correlated well with load-displacement curve data, i.e., the number of peaks formed by the compression-resistant force matched with the number of plastic hinges formed during compression. In the tubing with thickness of 3.0 ㎜, the number of plastic hinges decreased, and bending occurred seriously. This leaded to drop in impact absorption energies per unit cross-sectional area since energies could not be absorbed effectively upon bending. These findings suggested that in order to improve impact absorption energies of the extruded aluminum tubing for space frame, their thickness less than 3.0 ㎜ and the design of their cross-section for promoting folding instead of bending were recommended.

제품 개발 기간을 단축하고 품질과 생산성을 향상시키기 위하여 설계/해석 프로세스의 자동화가 요구된다. 일반적으로 설계/해석 프로세스는 시간과 자원을 많이 필요로 하는 작업이기 때문에 분산 환경에서 다양한 엔지니어링 자원을 효과적으로 활용할 수 있어야 한다. 분산 환경에서의 유연한 엔지니어링 프로세스의 통합과 자동화를 가능하게 하기 위해 한국기계연구원에서는 SOA(Service Oriented Architecture)기반의 e-엔지니어링 프레임워크를 구축하였다. 본 논문에서는 한국기계연구원의 e-엔지니어링 프레임워크의 개념 및 구조를 설명한다. 또한 e-엔지니어링 프레임워크에서 발생할 수 있는 예외사항에 중점을 두고 이러한 예외사항에 대해서 엔지니어링 프로세스 측면과 태스크 측면으로 분류하여 장애진단 및 회복 기법을 제시한다. In order to reduce a product life cycle and to improve productivity, it is required to automate the design/analysis processes. In general, since the design/ analysis processes need a lot of time and resources, the various engineering resources should be integrated and utilized effectively in the distributed environments. KIMM (Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials) constructed the SOA-based e-Engineering framework to automate the execution of the design/analysis processes and to integrate the engineering resources in the distributed environments. This paper presents the concepts and the structures of the e-Engineering framework. Also it classifies the exceptional cases that will be able to occur in the e-Engineering framework and suggests the recovery techniques from the exceptional cases with viewpoints of the engineering process and the task, respectively.
Effect by acupuncture on hypothalamic expression of maternally separated rats: proteomic approach.

<P>OBJECTIVES: Early stressors can influence the development of biological and neurological systems. Maternal separation (social isolation) in early life may increase vulnerability to neurodegenerative diseases and neuropsychiatric disorders over the lifespan. To identify new proteins on acupuncture effects in maternally separated rats, an animal model for study of early environmental insults, proteomic approach on the expression of the hypothalamic proteins was performed. METHODS: On post-natal day 14, rat pups were randomly divided into four groups: pups kept with their mothers for 7 days; pups kept with their mothers with acupuncture daily to HT8 (Sobu); maternally separated pups; maternally separated pups with acupuncture. The hypothalamic proteins were analysed by two-dimensional electrophoresis coupled with matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer. RESULTS: The results showed that 27 spots were differentially and commonly expressed. Of 27 spots, 21 spots were identified while six spots were not, and 15 proteins were known proteins. In maternally separated group, the expressions of 14 proteins were down-regulated, compared to control group. In group of maternally separation with acupuncture, five proteins were down-regulated and nine were up-regulated, compared to the maternally separated group. Among nine proteins up-regulated by acupuncture treatment, we found four proteins (dihydropyrimidinase-like 2, dystrophin-related protein 2, tubulin, alpha 1a and syntaxin 1b) related to neurodevelopment. DISCUSSION: The result suggests that acupuncture to HT8 may affect neurodevelopment, and acupuncture may be a possible therapy for neurodevelopmental disorders.</P>

업무 프로세스의 개선 및 효율성 증가를 위해 시스템간의 연동을 웹서비스(Web Services)화 하여 시스템 간의 프로세스 및 데이터 연계를 목적으로 하는 통합의 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이기종간의 레거시 시스템을 SOA(Service Oriented Architecture)기반의 웹 서비스와 통합하여 구매/유지보수 비용을 절감하고 신뢰성, 보안성 및 상호 운용성 향상 등의 비즈니스 프로세스의 가치를 향상시키기 위한 방안에 대해 소개한다. 레거시 시스템을 웹서비스와 통합 시 고려해야 하는 비 기능적인 요소를 OASIS, W3C, WS-I등의 단체에서 정해진 웹서비스 명세 표준에 근거하여 선정하고, 이를 준수한 통합 방안 및 구현사례를 제시한다.

Dynamic torsional tests were conducted using a torsional Kolsky bar for five alloys, one of which was fabricated by double-cycled sintering process, and then the test data were compared via microstructures, mechanical properties, adiabatic shear banding, and fracture mode. The double-sintered tungsten alloy specimen whose tungsten particles were very coarse and irregularly shaped showed cleavage fracture in the central area of the gage sec4ion with little shear deformation, whereas shear deformation was concentrated in the central area of the gage section in the other alloys. The deformation and fracture behavior of the double-sintered alloy correlated well with the observation of the impacted penetrator specimen and the in situ fracture test results, i.e., microcrack initiation at coarse tungsten particles and cleavage crack propagation through tungsten particles. These findings suggested that the cleavage fracture mode would be beneficial for the self-sharpening effect and, thus, the improvement of the penetration performance of the double-sintered tungsten heavy alloy would be expected.
