A Gastrobronchial Fistula Secondary to Endoscopic Internal Drainage of a Post-Sleeve Gastrectomy Fluid Collection

        Paraskevas Gkolfakis,Marc-André Bureau,Marianna Arvanitakis,Jacques Devière,Daniel Blero 대한소화기내시경학회 2022 Clinical Endoscopy Vol.55 No.1

A 44-year-old woman underwent sleeve gastrectomy, which was complicated by a leak. She was treated with two sessions ofendoscopic internal drainage using plastic double-pigtail stents. Her clinical evolution was favorable, but four months after the initialstent placement, she became symptomatic, and a gastrobronchial fistula with the proximal end of the stents invading the diaphragmwas diagnosed. She was treated with antibiotics, plastic stents were removed, and a partially covered metallic esophageal stent wasplaced. Eleven weeks later, the esophageal stent was removed with no evidence of fistula. Inappropriate stent size, position, stentingduration, and persistence of low-grade inflammation could explain the patient’s symptoms and provide a mechanism for gradualmuscle rupture and fistula formation. Although endoscopic internal drainage is usually safe and effective for the management ofpost-laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy leaks, close clinical and radiological follow-up is mandatory.

Portal cavernography during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography: from bilhemia to hemobilia

        Rawad A. Yared,Paraskevas Gkolfakis,Arnaud Lemmers,Vincent Huberty,Thierry Degrez,Jacques Devière,Daniel Blero 대한소화기내시경학회 2023 Clinical Endoscopy Vol.56 No.4

Portobiliary fistulas are rare but may lead to life-threatening complications. Biliary plastic stent-induced portobiliary fistulas during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography have been described. Herein, we present a case of portal cavernography and recurrent hemobilia after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography in which a portobiliary fistula was detected in a patient with portal biliopathy. This likely indicates a change in clinical presentation (from bilhemia to hemobilia) after biliary drainage that was successfully treated by placement of a fully covered, self-expandable metallic stent.

Evaluation of dietary sources of protein on growth performance in pigs

Mohana Devi, S.,Devi, US,Kim, IH INSTITUTE OF AGRICULTURAL FOOD INFORMATION 2014 VETERINARNI MEDICINA -PRAHA- Vol.59 No.5

<P>A 6-week trial was conducted to investigate the effects of animal skin protein sources from swine and cattle on growth performance, body condition and blood characteristics in growing pigs. A total of 96 pigs (23.50 &plusmn; 0.61&nbsp;kg) were randomly allotted into four dietary treatment groups as follows: (1) basal diet (BD); (2) basal diet with 1.5% hydrolysed render meal (HRM); (3) basal diet with 1.5% swine skin meal (SSM); (4) basal diet with 1.5% cattle hide meal (CHM). There were six replicate pens per treatment with four pigs per pen. The average daily gain (ADG) was improved in response to SSM treatment compared with other treatments (P &lt; 0.05). Pigs fed with HRM, SSM and CHM diets showed increases in average daily feed intake (ADFI) and decreased gain-to-feed (G : F) ratios compared with pigs fed with BD (P &lt; 0.05). There were no differences in dry matter (DM), nitrogen (N), and energy (E) digestibility among treatments. The backfat thickness and lean percentage of pigs was unaffected by the treatments. Similarly, there was no difference in blood characteristics among treatments. In conclusion, the supplementation of SSM in growing pig diets improved the growth rate and Feed Intake (FI), but its usage in swine diets is limited by the poor protein quality. &nbsp;</P>

The Effect of Fraud Pentagon Theory on Financial Statements: Empirical Evidence from Indonesia

DEVI, Putu Nirmala Chandra,WIDANAPUTRA, Anak Agung Gde Putu,BUDIASIH, I Gusti Ayu Nyoman,RASMINI, Ni Ketut Korea Distribution Science Association 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.3

This study aims to obtain empirical evidence regarding the effect of the fraud pentagon theory on financial statement fraud. The novelty of this study is the use of factor analysis to consolidate the five elements of the fraud pentagon into just one factor, which, to the knowledge of the researcher, no one else has done to research the effect of pentagon fraud on financial statement fraud. This study uses both agency theory and fraud pentagon theory. The population of this study consists of state-owned companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The research period in this study is from 2014 to 2019. The data used in this study is secondary data obtained from the company's annual financial statements. A purposive sampling technique was used to determine the research sample. The selected companies total 20. Factor analysis and simple linear regression analysis method were used as research the methods. Based on the research results, it was found that the fraud pentagon theory had a positive effect on the financial statement fraud of state-owned companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. High level of the pentagon fraud on a company leads to a higher indication of financial statement fraud.

      • A Critical Study of Canada Social Transfer as an Instrument of Social Policy

( Devi Roy ) 한국정책학회 2016 International Journal of Policy Studies Vol.7 No.2

The expansion of the federal role in social policy led to the development of a Canadian welfare state. The federal government funds the majority of social programmes through the mechanisms of Canada Health Transfer (CHT) and Canada Social Transfer (CST). The CST is the federal transfer payment programme in support of education, social assistance and social services, which includes early childhood development and early learning and childcare. The CST was initially combined with the CHT in a programme called the Canada Health and Social Transfer (CHST) 1995. It was made independent from the Canada Health and Social Transfer programme on April 1, 2004, to allow for greater accountability and transparency in the social sector areas. As CHST was bifurcated into CHT and CST, the CHT is the largest major transfer and it provides funding for healthcare and supports the principles of the Canada Health Act to provinces and territories. The present paper attempts to analyse that CST is the primary federal contribution in Canada to provincial and territorial social programmes and is also an instrument of social policy. The federal transfer is an important instrument for the provinces and the territories for a social change. For the implementation of the policy, fund plays a crucial role. So from this paper tries to analyse the Canada Social Transfer as a key instrument of the social policy of 10 provinces and 3 territories. It has taken data of one decade from 2005 to 2015.

An Outline of Meat Consumption in the Indian Population - A Pilot Review

Devi, Subramaniam Mohana,Balachandar, Vellingiri,Lee, Sang In,Kim, In Ho Korean Society for Food Science of Animal Resource 2014 한국축산식품학회지 Vol.34 No.4

The consumption of meat is increasing in India and agriculture is considered as the backbone of a majority of people. Livestock plays a significant role, and poultry and dairy are the major sectors contributing to economic development. The majority of meats consumed in India are fish, bovine, mutton, goat, pig, and poultry. In Indian context, culture, traditions, customs, and taboos influence meat consumption to a great extent. However, studies show that urbanization has been causing a rise in demand for meat products. India is the world's second largest exporter of beef. In India, 95% of goat meat produced is consumed locally. Meat consumption, in particular, is determined by the religions where pork is forbidden to Muslims and beef is prohibited to Hindus. The preference and consumption of chicken meat can be considered as a universal phenomenon and chicken meat is greatly accepted by consumers in India as compared to the other meat consumption. The increase of chicken meat consumption is due to the versatility of the meat, relatively low cost in comparison to other meat, and the acceptance of the chicken meat to all religions. There has been a great rise in the production of livestock products and this is expected to continue in the future. The pattern of meat consumption depends considerably on culture, tradition and urbanization. This review was formulated with the objective of identifying the meat consumption patterns in a typical Indian society.

A low-complexity 3-level filter bank design for effective restoration of audibility in digital hearing aids

Devis Tomson,Manuel Manju 대한의용생체공학회 2020 Biomedical Engineering Letters (BMEL) Vol.10 No.4

A low-complexity method for sub-band decomposition of audio signals in digital hearing aids for audibility restoration applications is described in this paper. This 3-level filter bank is capable of generating an array of 4, 8, and 16 sub-filters from a single finite impulse response filter. The prototype low pass filter is accomplished using the Parks McClellan algorithm with a minimal number of 28 multipliers. Fractional interpolation technique is utilized to generate more number of sub-bands with narrow bandwidth from the prototype filter. This filter bank can be used for patients with any degree of hearing impairment to compensate his audiogram. The selection of filter bank is based on the rate of change of impairment recorded in the audiogram. Apart from reduced complexity, the developed filter bank has the advantage of requiring only minimal hardware, which makes the implementation of cost-effective hearing aids a reality.

      • Classification and characterization of putative cytochrome P450 genes from Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer.

        Devi, Balusamy Sri Renuka,Kim, Yu-Jin,Sathiyamoorthy, Subramaniyum,Khorolragchaa, Altanzul,Gayathri, Sathiyaraj,Parvin, Shohana,Yang, Dong-Uk,Selvi, Senthil Kalai,Lee, Ok Ran,Lee, Sungyoung,Yang, Deok Consultants Bureau [etc.] 2011 Biochemistry Vol.76 No.12

<P>In plants heme containing cytochrome P450 (P450) is a superfamily of monooxygenases that catalyze the addition of one oxygen atom from O2 into a substrate, with a substantial reduction of the other atom to water. The function of P450 families is attributed to chemical defense mechanism under terrestrial environmental conditions; several are involved in secondary and hormone metabolism. However, the evolutionary relationships of P450 genes in Panax ginseng remain largely unknown. In the present study, data mining methods were implemented and 116 novel putative P450 genes were identified from Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) of a ginseng database. These genes were classified into four clans and 22 families by sequence similarity conducted at amino acid level. The representative putative P450 sequences of P. ginseng and known P450 family from other plants were used to construct a phylogenetic tree. By comparing with other genomes, we found that most of the P450 genes from P. ginseng can be found in other dicot species. Depending on P450 family functions, seven P450 genes were selected, and for that organ specific expression, abiotic, and biotic studies were performed by quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction. Different genes were found to be expressed differently in different organs. Biotic stress and abiotic stress transcript level was regulated diversely, and upregulation of P450 genes indicated the involvement of certain genes under stress conditions. The upregulation of the P450 genes under methyl jasmonate and fungal stress justifies the involvement of specific genes in secondary metabolite biosynthesis. Our results provide a foundation for further elucidating the actual function and role of P450 involved in various biochemical pathways in P. ginseng.</P>
