<P>Two-dimensional high-index-contrast dielectric gratings exhibit unconventional transmission and reflection due to their morphologies. For light-emitting devices, these characteristics help guided modes defeat total internal reflections, thereby enhancing the outcoupling efficiency into an ambient medium. However, the outcoupling ability is typically impeded by the limited index contrast given by pattern media. Here, we report strong-diffraction, high-index contrast cavity engineered substrates (CESs) in which hexagonally arranged hemispherical air cavities are covered with a 80 nm thick crystallized alumina shell. Wavelength-resolved diffraction measurements and Fourier analysis on GaN-grown CESs reveal that the high-index-contrast air/alumina core/shell patterns lead to dramatic excitation of the low-order diffraction modes. Large-area (1075 x 750 mu m(2)) blue-emitting InGaN/GaN light-emitting diodes (LEDs) fabricated on a 3 mu m pitch CES exhibit similar to 39% enhancement in the optical power compared to state-of-the-art, patterned-sapphire-substrate LEDs, while preserving all of the electrical metrics that are relevant to LED devices. Full-vectorial simulations quantitatively demonstrate the enhanced optical power of CES LEDs and show a progressive increase in the extraction efficiency as the air cavity volume is expanded. This trend in light extraction is observed for both lateral- and flip-chip-geometry LEDs. Measurements of far-field profiles indicate a substantial beaming effect for CES LEDs, despite their few-micron-pitch pattern. Near-to-far-field transformation simulations and polarization analysis demonstrate that the improved extraction efficiency of CES LEDs is ascribed to the increase in emissions via the top escape route and to the extraction of transverse-magnetic polarized light.</P>
The Effects of Consumer Preferences for Wireless Internet Services on the Demand for Mobile Devices

Recently, smart phones such as the Galaxy S and IPhone, and tablet PCs such as the Galaxy Tab have been introduced and become widespread in the market, thus the environment for wireless Internet services has been improving. As the market has improved, consumer preferences for mobile devices and the relationship between these devices and wireless Internet services regarding consumer preferences have become a very important issue. However, although there have been a considerable number of studies on the demand for mobile devices, it is not easy to find previous studies on the relationship between consumer preferences for specific attributes of wireless Internet services and the demand for mobile devices. The main purpose of this study is to analyze which mobile device is more likely to be preferred or become the main channel for wireless Internet services and how the demand for each mobile device is influenced by consumer preferences for specific attributes of wireless broadband Internet services used on it, and to induce managerial implications based on the main findings. To derive the results on consumer preferences, conjoint analysis is used. The survey was conducted using 1,000 Korean consumers. In the survey, respondents are allowed to choose more than one hypothetical alternative representing a mobile device combined with a certain type of wireless broadband Internet service if they desired. To estimate the consumer preferences quantitatively, a multivariate probit model is used. According to the estimation results, owing to their portability, smart phones are more likely to become a major channel for wireless Internet services despite their drawbacks in terms of display size and performance. Portability is the most important factor affecting the choice of a mobile device when using wireless Internet services. Therefore, manufacturers of mobile devices for wireless Internet services should improve the overall functionality and performances of mobile devices without negatively affecting portability. However, at the same time, consumer preferences for specific attributes of wireless Internet services are found to affect the demand of each mobile device much differently. Therefore, the prediction that smart phones will be the prevalent mobile device for use of wireless Internet services can be somewhat changed, depending on which and how wireless Internet services are provided to each mobile device and how they affect the demand for each mobile device. As mentioned above, there are significant differences between mobile devices with regard to the effects of mobility, data transfer speed, type of contents or Internet interface for wireless Internet services. It is found that the mobility of wireless Internet service is highly valued for smaller devices, but not much for notebook PCs. In contrast, data transfer speed and similarities in the type of contents or Internet interface to those provided by fixed broadband Internet services become more important for larger mobile devices. Thus, it is necessary for wireless Internet service providers to differentiate and optimize their contents and Internet interfaces properly for various mobile devices. Additionally, it is reasonable that manufacturers of smart phones focus on mobility and portability (or convenience) rather than adding sophisticated functions or pursuing higher-level specifications. Further, for smart phones, for which mobility and convenience are important, wireless Internet service providers should develop and provide easy and convenient programs, rather than advanced programs that require high device performance. Lastly, with respect to individual demographics, young and highly educated people are more likely to be consumers of newly introduced mobile devices for using wireless Internet services. Therefore, these young and highly educated consumers should be considered a major target for manufacturers of mobile devices for wireless Internet services.
딸기 유기 재배시 주요 품종간 생육, 수량 및 병해충 발생 특성

국내에서 육성된 딸기 '매향' 등 6품종을 대상으로 유기재배 방법으로 촉성 및 반촉성 직형에서 재배하여 생육, 수량, 과실 품질 및 병해충 발생 양상 등을 조사하여 유기농 재배에 적합한 딸기 품종을 선발하고자 본 연구를 수행하였다. 2년에 걸친 시험 결과 두작형 모두에서 '설향'의 수확량이 타품종에 비하여 유의성 있게 높았다. '설향'의 재배기간 전체 평균 당도는 12.˚Bx로 타품종과 비교하여 낮은 경향이었으며 특히 고온기에 당도저하가 두드러졌다. 그러나 촉성 재배의 주요 출하시기인 2월 하순까지는 타품종과 비슷한 당도 변화를 보였다. '설향'의 경도는 평균 279g/Ø5㎜로서 기존 촉성재배 대비 품종인 '아키히메' 보다 조금 높은 경향을 보였으며, 산도는 '매향'(0.69%)에서 가장 높았다. 촉성 재배시 '선홍'에서 생체중 및 근중이 타 품종에 비하여 유의하게 높았으며, 엽면적은 '설향'이 유의성있게 높았다. 반촉성재배시 품종간 생육 특성은 통계적으로 유의성이 없었다. 병해충 발생양상을 조사한 결과 '설향'의 잿빛곰팡이병 발병도가 높게 나타났다. 재배 및 육묘기 모두 '설향'이 흰가루병에 강한 저항성을 보였으며, 목화진딧물 발생량도 타품종과 비교하여 낮은 경향이었다. 점박이응애 발생량은 '레드펄'에서 낮은 밀도를 보였다. 전체적인 생육 및 병해충 발생양상 조사한 결과 '설향'이 촉성 유기 재배에 가장 적합한 품종으로 판단되었으며 반촉성 재배시에는 고온기 '설향'의 경도 및 당도가 저하되어 적합하지 않을 것으로 판단된다. The objective of this research was to investigate the suitable cultivar for organic strawberry (Fragaria ananassa Duch.) cultivation in Korea. The six strawberry cultivars which were bred and commonly cultivated in Korea as forcing and semi-forcing culture were tested in this experiment. To achieve the objectives, various characteristics of these cultivars were investigated for two consecutive years such as growth habit, yield, fruit quality and occurrence rate of disease/pest. As results of this research, the total yield of 'Seolhyang' was the highest among cultivars tested in both forcing and semi-forcing cultivation. The average of soluble solid contents (SSC) in 'Seolhyang' was 12.0˚Bx that is lower than other cultivars and especially below 10 °Bx after March (high temperature period). But there was not much difference in sse among 6 cultivars until the end of February. The average of hardness in 'Seolhyang' was 279 g/Ø5 ㎜ which was a little higher than that of 'Akihime'. Titration acidity (TA) in 'Maehyang' was 0.69% which was the highest value among 6 cultivars. Total fresh/root weight of 'Seonhong' and leaf area of'Seolhyang' were significant among other cultivars' ones in forcing culture. Growth habits (fresh weight, root weight, leaf area, etc.) showed no significant difference among cultivars in semi-forcing culture. The lowest occurrence rate for powdery mildew and aphids was found in 'Seolhyang', but gray mold was severer than other cultivars. The density of two spider mites was the lowest in 'Redpearl'. We have concluded that 'Seolhyang' is the most suitable cultivar for organic strawberry cultivation by the result of yield, tTuit quality and resistance of disease/pest.

시각장애인용 점자전자책 배포시스템은 전자책 표준인 ePub 형식의 전자책을 검색 배포하는 시스템으로 검색된 전자책을 다운로드한 후 점자로 변환하여 시각장애인이 점자입출력장치를 통해 읽을 수 있도록 한 시스템이다. 시각장애인은 점자입출력장치를 통해 시각장애인용 홈페이지에 접속하며 다운로드 된 점자전자책을 점자 혹은 음성으로 읽을 수 있다. 점자입출력장치는 검색과 다운로드와 같은 전자책 배포 기능과 함께 처음읽기와 이어읽기 등 점자전자책 읽기 기능을 제공한다. 시각장애인은 점자전자책배포시스템을 통하여 보다 다양하고 방대한 양의 콘텐츠를 쉽게 접할 수 있다.
