<P><B>Purpose:</B> M2-type TAMs are increasingly implicated as a crucial factor promoting metastasis. Numerous cell types dictate monocyte differentiation into M2 TAMs via a complex network of cytokine-based communication. Elucidating critical pathways in this network can provide new targets for inhibiting metastasis. In this study, we focused on cancer cells, CAFs, and monocytes as a major node in this network.</P><P><B>Experimental Design:</B> Monocyte cocultures with cancer-stimulated CAFs were used to investigate differentiation into M2-like TAMs. Cytokine array analyses were employed to discover the CAF-derived regulators of differentiation. These regulators were validated in primary CAFs and bone marrow-derived monocytes. Orthotopic, syngeneic colon carcinoma models using cotransplanted CAFs were established to observe effects on tumor growth and metastasis. To confirm a correlation with clinical evidence, meta-analyses were employed using the Oncomine database.</P><P><B>Results:</B> Our coculture studies identify IL6 and GM-CSF as the pivotal signals released from cancer cell–activated CAFs that cooperate to induce monocyte differentiation into M2-like TAMs. In orthotopic, syngeneic colon carcinoma mouse models, cotransplanted CAFs elevated IL6 and GM-CSF levels, TAM infiltration, and metastasis. These pathologic effects were dramatically reversed by joint IL6 and GM-CSF blockade. A positive correlation between GM-CSF and IL6 expression and disease course was observed by meta-analyses of the clinical data.</P><P><B>Conclusions:</B> Our studies indicate a significant reappraisal of the role of IL6 and GM-CSF in metastasis and implicate CAFs as the “henchmen” for cancer cells in producing an immunosuppressive tumor ecological niche. Outbreak of Cyclosporiasis in Korean Travelers Returning from Nepal

Cyclospora cayetanensis is an apicomplexan protozoan and is one of the most common pathogens causing chronic diarrhea worldwide. Eight stool samples with diarrheal symptom out of 18 Korean residents who traveled to Nepal were obtained, and examined for 25 enteropathogens including 16 bacterial species, 5 viral species, and 4 protozoans in stool samples as causative agents of water-borne and food-borne disease. Only C. cayetanensis was detected by nested PCR, and 3 PCR-positive samples were sequenced to confirm species identification. However, the oocysts of C. cayetanensis in fecal samples could not be detected by direct microscopy of the stained sample. As far as we know, this is the first report of a group infection with C. cayetanensis from a traveler visiting Nepal, and the second report of a traveler‘s diarrhea by C. cayetanensis imported in Korea.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>To fabricate micro-patterns for bioengineering applications, we used graphene sheet, metal mask, and plasma treatment rather than the commonly used photolithography process. Two types of micro-patterns were fabricated (line, and circle) on SiO<SUB>2</SUB>/Si (100, p-typed) substrate. In the line and circle micro-patterns, graphene etched areas were 100 and 150μm, respectively, with fluorinated graphene spacing. The efficiencies of early cell adhesion, which is necessary for the growth and proliferation of cells, were 62, 17, and 65% on the pristine, fluorinated, and etched graphene surface, respectively, for 6h of cell culture. After seeding the neuron cells on the patterned substrate, neuron cells proliferated and differentiated along the graphene etched regions. The graphene sheet was used as a passivation layer for micro-array of the neuron cell on SiO<SUB>2</SUB>/Si.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Graphene sheet has been used in the miniaturization process. </LI> <LI> Graphene sheet was partially etched by plasma treatment in O<SUB>2</SUB> gas environment. </LI> <LI> Graphene sheet was fluorinated by plasma treatment in C<SUB>3</SUB>F<SUB>8</SUB> gas environment. </LI> <LI> Fluorinated graphene sheet artificially control the adhesion of cell. </LI> <LI> Fluorinated graphene sheet was used as a passivation layer for micro-cell array. </LI> </UL> </P>

Environmental problems have emerged in society and interest in eco-friendly practices has increased. As the cosmetics industry grows, environmental problems caused by packaging materials and chemicals are occurring. Cosmetic ingredients contain chemicals and containers are difficult to recycle, such as plastics and glass. In response to these changes, the cosmetics market is also launching green marketing. Consumers aim to consume by their values and express their beliefs through consumption. As interest in eco-friendly cosmetics increases, consumers choose products from various perspectives such as whether they contain chemical ingredients, quality, and price. For this reason, many companies need to make eco-friendly efforts to reduce waste and plastic in the manufacturing and distribution process to gain consumer trust. Demand for eco-friendly cosmetics is increasing as awareness of eco-friendly cosmetics is increasing through eco-friendly practices by individuals and companies. In order for the eco-friendly cosmetics market to grow, it is necessary for companies to make up for their low accessibility and awareness of eco-friendly cosmetics. This study conducted a survey of adults in their 20s and 30s living in Korea for about four weeks from January 28 to February 27, 2020, using the online form. A total of 207 copies of the questionnaire were collected, of which 201 were used as final analysis materials, excluding six dishonest answers. In this study, we looked at the impact of environmental values and green marketing perceptions on consumers purchasing patterns of eco-friendly cosmetics from a consumers point of view. Through this, we will understand environmental values, awareness of green marketing, and influence of eco-friendly cosmetics purchasing form, and present suggestions of green marketing strategies of eco-friendly cosmetics companies.
눈꺼풀 막스선의 앞쪽 이동 유무에 따른 안구건조증 환자의 임상양상 분석

목적: 안구건조증 환자들을 대상으로 막스선의 앞쪽 이동 유무에 따른 안구건조증의 임상적 특징을 분석해 보고자 하였다. 대상과 방법: 본 연구는 후향적 연구로서 안구건조증 환자 127명의 127안을 대상으로 막스선의 위치를 검사하고 분석하였다. 안구건조증은 1군 눈물 생성 부족(쇼그렌증후군 포함), 2군 마이봄샘기능부전, 3군 기타 눈물층 불안정으로 나누었다. 모든 환자들을 대상으로안구건조증 자각 증상 점수 설문 조사(Ocular Surface Disease Index), 각막 플루레신 염색 정도(score 0-15), 결막 리사민그린 염색 정도(score 0-12), 눈물막파괴시간(tear break up time), 쉬르머검사(Shirmer test)를 측정하였다. 결과: 막스선의 전방전위가 있는 군에서 마이봄샘기능부전(2군)의 비율이 가장 높았다(p<0.05). 또한 막스선의 전방전위와 안구건조증 객관적 지표들의 상관성을 분석해 보았을 때, 막스선의 전방전위가 있는 경우 쉬르머검사의 측정치가 통계적으로 유의하게 낮게 나왔다(p<0.05). 결론: 막스선의 전방전위는 마이봄샘기능부전이 동반된 안구건조증 환자에서 많이 나타났다. 향후 마이봄샘기능부전을 진단 및 치료하는 데에 있어 막스선을 유용한 보조적 마커로서 활용해볼 가치가 있겠다. Purpose: To evaluate the clinical characteristics of patients with dry eye syndrome according to anterior displacement of the Marx line. Methods: This retrospective study involved 127 eyes in 127 patients with dry eye, who were divided into three groups: group 1, aqueous-deficient, including Sjögren syndrome; group 2, meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) dry eye; and group 3, other tear layer instability. A detailed assessment was conducted, involving the Ocular Surface Disease Index, corneal fluorescein staining (score: 0-15), conjunctival Lissamine green staining (score: 0-12), measurement of tear breakup time, and Schirmer’s test. Results: The proportion of patients with MGD was highest in the group with anterior displacement of the Marx line (p < 0.05). The correlation between anterior dislocation of the Marx line and Schirmer’s test, an objective indicator of dry eye syndrome, was significantly weaker when there was anterior displacement of the Marx line. Conclusions: Anterior dislocation of the Marx line was more common in patients with MGD. The Marx line is a useful marker for diagnosing MGD.
동작 모니터링 스마트 의류를 위한 직물 센서의 성능 평가: 더미 실험을 중심으로

TThis study explored the requirement of fabric sensor that can measure the motion of the joint effectively by measuring and analyzing the variation in electric resistance of a sensor in accordance with bending and stretching motion of the arm by the implementation of a motion sensor utilizing conductive fabric. For this purpose, on both sides of two kinds of knitted fabric, namely ``L`` fabric and ``W`` fabric Single Wall Carbon Nano-Tube(SWCNT) was coated, fabric sensor was developed by finishing them in a variety of ways, and the sensor was attached to the arm band. The fabric sensor consisted of total 48 cases, namely background fabric for coating, the method of sensor attachment, the number of layer of sensors, the length of sensor, and the width of sensor. The performance of fabric motion sensors in terms of a dummy arm, that is, a Con-Trex MJ with 48 arm bands around it was evaluated. For each arm band, a total of 48, fastened around the dummy arm, it was adjusted to repeat the bending and stretching at the frequency : 0.5Hz, ROM : 20°~120°, the voltage was recorded for each case after conducting three sets of repeat measurement for a total of 48 cases. As a result of the experiment, and as a consequences of the evaluation and analysis of the voltage based on the uniformity of the base line of the peak-to-peak voltage(Vp-p), the uniformity of Vp-p within the same set, and the uniformity of the Vp-p among three sets, the fabric sensors that have been configured in SWCNT coated ``L`` fabric / welding / two layers / 50×5㎜, 50×10㎜, 100×10㎜, and SWCNT coated ``W`` fabric / welding / two layers / 50×10㎜ exhibited the most uniform and stable signal value within 5% of the total variation rate. Through all these results of the experiment, it was confirmed that SWCNT coated fabric was suitable for a sensor that can measure the human limb operation when it was implemented as a fabric sensor in a variety of forms, and the optimal sensor types were identified.
