SUPERNOVA REMNANTS IN THE MAGELLANIC CLOUDS
BOZZETTO, LUKE M.,FILIPOVIC, MIROSLAV D.,HABERL, FRANK,SASAKI, MANAMI,KAVANAGH, PATRICK,MAGGI, PIERRE,UROSEVIC, DEJAN,STURM, RICHARD The Korean Astronomical Society 2015 天文學論叢 Vol.30 No.2
We present an ongoing study of the complete sample of supernova remnants (SNRs) and candidates in the Magellanic Clouds. 108 objects in both Clouds are considered to be either SNR or reliable candidates. This represents the most complete sample of all known SNRs in any galaxy. It therefore allows us to study SNR population properties such as the age-diameter (Age-D) relation. Here, we show that this Age-D relation is strongly dependant on the local environment in which SNRs are residing.

In this work, the friction and wear behavior of Fe-Ni-Cr alloy specimens processed by direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) method was investigated by using a ball-on-disk reciprocating tribotester sliding against a hardened steel ball under dry sliding conditions. After DMLS, the specimens were further treated by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) in order to reduce the porosity and to increase the density. Subsequently, one of the specimens was subjected to high-frequency ultrasonic peening (HFUP) with the aim to enhance the tribological properties. The microstructural characterization was conducted using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and an atomic force microscope (AFM). In addition, nano-scratch tests were carried out on the specimens using a nano-scratch testing (NST) system. The friction and nano-scratch tests results showed that the HFUP-treated specimen led to a reduction in friction coefficient and wear rate, and an increase in resistance to scratch compared to that of the HFUP-free specimen, which may be attributed to the increase in hardness and the formation of corrugated structure.
Screening of cosmological constant in non-local gravity
Nojiri, S.,Odintsov, S.D.,Sasaki, M.,Zhang, Y.l. North-Holland Pub. Co 2011 Physics letters: B Vol.696 No.3
We discuss a possible mechanism to screen a cosmological constant in non-local gravity. We find that in a simple model of non-local gravity with the Lagrangian of the form, R+f(@?-1R)-2Λ where f(X) is a quadratic function of X, there is a flat spacetime solution despite the presence of the cosmological constant Λ. Unfortunately, however, we also find that this solution contains a ghost in general. Then we discuss the condition to avoid a ghost and find that one can avoid it only for a finite range of 'time'. Nevertheless our result suggests the possibility of solving the cosmological constant problem in the context of non-local gravity.

We have studied the origin of the resistivity peak which is often observed near the Curie temperature on the resistivity temperature characteristic in Ga1ကxMnxAs epitaxial layers. It was conrmed that the Curie temperature of this ferromagnetic semiconductor is strongly dependent on the concentration of free carriers (holes). The concentration of free holes was controlled by an additional nonmagnetic acceptor (Be) at a xed concentration of magnetic atoms (Mn) of Ga1ကxMnxAs (x = 0.03). We show that the temperature dependences of the resistivity at zero magnetic eld and of the magnetoresistance can be successfully described by the magnetoimpurity scattering model proposed by Nagaev [Phys. Rep. 346, 387 (2001)] in both the paramagnetic and the ferromagnetic temperature regions. Quantitative analysis of the experimental data in terms of this model yields the value of the p-d exchange integral Jpd = 0.07 eV nm3 for Ga0:97Mn0:03As.
