Imaging Characteristics of Perosomus elumbis in a Puppy

A 4-day-old, male Poodle dog was presented with dull, depressed and exhausted activity after the birth. On physical examination, the puppy showed arthrogryposis, muscular atrophy and no movement of hindlimbs. Palpation on dorsum revealed an absence of lumbar and sacral vertebrae. On prenatal and postnatal radiography, lumbar vertebrae, sacrum and coccygeal vertebrae were not visualized. On ultrasonography, bilateral kidney and urinary bladder were observed. On computed tomography, there were no apparent abnormalities in the forelimbs, cervical vertebrae or head, while lumbar vertebrae, sacrum and coccygeal vertebrae were not observed. At necropsy examination, the liver, stomach, intestine, kidney and urinary bladder were normal. This congenital anomaly was consistent with Perosomus elumbis. Perosomus elumbis in dogs is a rare condition of unknown etiology. In this report, Perosomus elumbis was evaluated with radiography, ultrasound and computed tomography.
CNN 모델 평가를 위한 이미지 데이터 증강 도구 개발

CNN 모델이 이미지 분류와 객체 탐지 등 여러 분야에 활용됨에 따라, 자율주행자동차와 같이 안전필수시스템에 사용되는 CNN 모델의 성능은 신뢰할 수 있어야 한다. 이에 CNN 모델이 다양한 환경에서도 성능을 유지하는지 평가하기 위해 배경을 변경한 이미지를 생성하는 이미지 데이터 증강 도구를 개발한다. 이미지 데이터 증강 도구에 객체가 존재하는 이미지를 입력하면, 해당 이미지로부터 객체 이미지를 추출한 후 수집한 배경 이미지 내에 객체 이미지를 합성하여 새로운 이미지를 생성한다. CNN 모델 성능 평가 방법으로 개발한 도구를 사용하여 기존 테스트 이미지로부터 새로운 테스트 이미지를 생성하고, 생성한 새로운 테스트 이미지로 CNN 모델을 평가한다. 사례 연구로 Pascal VOC2007 테스트 데이터로부터 새로운 테스트 이미지를 생성하고, 새로운 테스트 이미지로 YOLOv3 모델을 평가하였다. 그 결과 기존 테스트 이미지의 mAP보다 새로운 테스트 이미지의 mAP가 약 0.11 더 낮아지는 것을 확인하였다. As CNN model is applied to various domains such as image classification and object detection, the performance of CNN model which is used to safety critical system like autonomous vehicles should be reliable. To evaluate that CNN model can sustain the performance in various environments, we developed an image data augmentation apparatus which generates images that is changed background. If an image which contains object is entered into the apparatus, it extracts an object image from the entered image and generate s composed images by synthesizing the object image with collected background images. As a method to evaluate a CNN model, the apparatus generate s new test images from original test images, and we evaluate the CNN model by the new test image. As a case study, we genera ted new test images from Pascal VOC2007 and evaluated a YOLOv3 model with the new images. As a result, it was detected that mAP of new test images is almost 0.11 lower than mAP of the original test images.

FBXW7-mediated ERK3 degradation regulates the proliferation of lung cancer cells

Extracellular signal-regulated kinase 3 (ERK3) is an atypical member of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) family, members of which play essential roles in diverse cellular processes during carcinogenesis, including cell proliferation, differentiation, migration, and invasion. Unlike other MAPKs, ERK3 is an unstable protein with a short half-life. Although deubiquitination of ERK3 has been suggested to regulate the activity, its ubiquitination has not been described in the literature. Here, we report that FBXW7 (F-box and WD repeat domain-containing 7) acts as a ubiquitination E3 ligase for ERK3. Mammalian two-hybrid assay and immunoprecipitation results demonstrated that ERK3 is a novel binding partner of FBXW7. Furthermore, complex formation between ERK3 and the S-phase kinase-associated protein 1 (SKP1)-cullin 1-F-box protein (SCF) E3 ligase resulted in the destabilization of ERK3 via a ubiquitination-mediated proteasomal degradation pathway, and FBXW7 depletion restored ERK3 protein levels by inhibiting this ubiquitination. The interaction between ERK3 and FBXW7 was driven by binding between the C34D of ERK3, especially at Thr417 and Thr421, and the WD40 domain of FBXW7. A double mutant of ERK3 (Thr417 and Thr421 to alanine) abrogated FBXW7-mediated ubiquitination. Importantly, ERK3 knockdown inhibited the proliferation of lung cancer cells by regulating the G1/S-phase transition of the cell cycle. These results show that FBXW7-mediated ERK3 destabilization suppresses lung cancer cell proliferation in vitro.
Metallic Foreign Body in the Liver of a Dog

<P>A 4-year-old beagle had intermittent vomiting and weight loss for 1 month. On plain radiography, an approximately 3.5-cm, radiopaque, linear foreign body was identified in the region of the liver. On ultrasonography, a hyperechoic linear structure with reverberation was identified in the left lobe or quadrate lobe. On computed tomography(CT), a thin hyperattenuating material consistent with a metallic foreign body was identified just medial to the gall bladder. Removal of the foreign body was performed without complications. We present a rare case in which a metallic foreign body was embedded in the liver asymptomatically and found incidentally during a clinical examination performed to ascertain the cause of clinical signs.</P>
A radiographic study of growth plate closure compared with age in the Korean native goat

This study was performed to assess the growth plate closure time with aging in the Korean native goat. Radiographs of proximal and distal epiphysis of humerus, radius, ulna, femur and tibia were obtained at 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 20, 21, 30, 43 and 52 weeks after birth in 30 Korean native goats. The secondary ossification centers were scrutinized and assessed the maturity process on the basis of the criteria(stage 0 to 10). The secondary ossification centers of proximal and distal epiphysis of humerus, radius, femur and tibia and proximal ulna epiphysis appeared immediately after birth. While, that of distal ulna epiphysis appeared during the 1st to 2nd week of life. The fusion of distal humeral epiphysis occurred during the period from 8 to 12 months. The fusion of proximal radial epiphysis and distal tibial epiphysis were found at 1 year. The fusion of proximal and distal epiphysis of ulna and femur, proximal epiphysis of humerus and tibia and distal epiphysis of radius were found at 1 year or more than 1 year. As a result, growth plate closure was highly related to age in the Korean native goat and it is suggested that the estimation of animal's age might be useful by illustration of maturity process of the secondary ossification centers in the Korean native goat.
Sonographic Detection of Small Amounts of Free Peritoneal Gas in Beagle Dogs

<P>The detection of small amounts of free peritoneal gas in the canine patient can pose a diagnostic dilemma. The objective of this study was to determine how much of this free gas could be detected ultrasonographically. Ultrasound examinations were carried out after increments (0.1 m<I>l</I>) of air were intraperitoneally injected. Via ultrasonography, 0.4 m<I>l</I> of free gas can be reliably detected. The authors concluded that ultrasonography is a very sensitive modality for the detection of small amounts of peritoneal free gas (above 0.4 m<I>l</I>).</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Current surgical treatments for osteochondral injuries include chondrocyte transplantation, osteochondral grafts, and bone marrow stimulation. Despite these approaches, repaired tissues often show limited regeneration resulting in fibrocartilage formation with poor mechanical properties. To overcome these shortcomings, a regenerative cell-laden scaffold therapy is a promising treatment option. In this study, we propose a three-dimensional (3D) micro-sized mesh structure using a cell-laden collagen bioink. To achieve the optimal cell-printing condition for the fabrication of cell-laden collagen structure, porous mesh collagen scaffold (PMCS) were assessed for the mechanical properties, printability and cell viability analysis. <I>In vivo</I> regenerative effects of PMCS were compared to the injecting hydrogel without pores (non-porous collagen scaffold (NPCS)), collagen/poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) hybrid scaffold (CPHS)), and pure PCL scaffold (PPS). The porous mesh-structured/cell-laden collagen scaffold (PMCS) showed significantly enhanced cartilage regeneration <I>in vivo</I> compared to other conditions.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
