Development of A Teledermatological Service System Among Korea-China-Europe Using TEIN

A teledermatological service system among Korea, China and Austria has been developed and tested in this research. For successful design and establishment of a teledermatological service system, four elements were considered-networking among hospitals and participants, standard specification for teledermatological consultation, database for medical record, and design and implementation of software. In addition to the fundamental stationary system, mobile teledermatological service function using PDA was added to provide dermatologists with ubiquitous consultation service. It was evaluated and proved to be a feasible for tele-consultation system by the dermatologists participated in this research.

Many studies for computer-based chromosome analysis using artificial neural network (ANN) have shown that it is possible to classify chromosomes into 24 subgroups. It is important to select optimum features for training the ANN. Our purpose was to select features that had the low classification error and the best ability for human chromosome classification. We applied the medial axis transformation for the medial line, extended the line to the boundary and obtained relative length, relative area and centromeric index. The Giemsa-stained human chromosome has a sequence of banding pattern that is perpendicular to the medial axis of the chromosome. Density profile is a one-dimensional graph of the banding pattern property of the chromosome computed at a sequence of points along the possibly curved chromosome medial axis. Some studied used relative length, centromeric index and 62 density profile as features, but we prepared two data sets as features that one set was relative length, centromeric index and 80 density profile considered No. 1 chromosome's length and the other was relative length, centromeric index, the 80 density profile and relative area and compared classification error of each set. We found that the classification error showed to be decreased by adding relative area to the other features.

<P>The Rose Bengal Test (RBT) is the most widely used screening test for brucellosis in both humans and animals. Owing to its apparent simplicity of reading, however, interpretations of the RBT results can be affected by personal experience. This study describes a simple way to improve the accuracy and uniformity of reading the RBT reaction by counting the number of agglutinated particles using transparent OHP film with Quantity One, which was originally designed to count the bacterial colony numbers on agar plates. Using this system, the reactivities of three Rose Bengal antigens from different sources against international standard serum (1,000 units, VLA, UK) could be numerically measured: the intensity scale ranged from zero to around 1,600. This system enabled us to compare the antigenicity of Rose Bengal antigens from three different sources by using statistical analyses such as regression and mean intensity. Collectively, mathematical measuring of the reaction intensity used in this study may help interpret subtle test results by providing more reliable data and additional statistical information on the herd. In addition, the method would also be applicable to other agglutination test for other diseases.</P>
Imrpovement of Training Effect for a Tilt Table with Visual Feedback Function

In the previous study we have developed an electrical actuator-driven type tilt table for the patients who had to lie down for long period of time. This kind of patients are needed to exercise to maintain up-right standing position and recover their muscle power of paralytic leg. We improved its functionallity so that it can provide a patient with visual feedback of exercise to increase the effect of rehabilitation. This could be possible by measuring and displaying the knee bent angle and pressure for each foot during exercise in real time. It is expected that the patient’s exercising effect can increase by self-monitoring these two values during exercise.

Accurate estimation of insect density is essential for effective pest management. A simple robotics and image processing system were combined to automatically recognize the density of whiteflies. Subsequently the robot arm was utilized to spray the pesticides in the area of infestation in a minimized amount. The estimated densities of samples in the laboratory condition were in accordance with the actual values. The detection system was efficient when the whitefly densities were at medium to high levels. The results of the present study indicate that the robotic and image processing integration system described here would be useful for evaluating the population dynamics.
A Robust Heart Rate Monitoring System Based on RF Communication Protocol

A robust and real time heart rate monitoring system for multiple rehabilitation patients which can be used in a rehabilitation hospital was developed. A customized wireless network was proposed in this study to provide patients with full mobility during exercising and to save electrical power consumtion in portable units. The system consists of patient’s side device (PSD) and central monitoring system (CMS). The PSD calculates a patient’s heart rate continuously and send it to CMS when it gets call from CMS. The CMS collects heart rate for each patient sequentially and generates warning signal if the heart rate is out of preset range. The PSD was designed to be wearable and consume minimum electrical power.
