This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different nitrogen levels on the yield and nutrient quality of a newly developed domestic hybrid of Teosinte, Geukdong 6〔Zea mays L. subsp. mexicana (Schrad.) H. H. Iltis〕. The field experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with three replicates and consisted of four nitrogen (N) application rates, T1 (200 kg/ha), T2 (300 kg/ha), T3 (400 kg/ha), and T4 (500 kg/ha). No differences were found in plant length, leaf length, leaf width, leaf number, dead leaves, stem hardness, tiller number, and fresh yield (p>0.05). The T3 showed significantly greater dry matter yield at harvest (heading stage) compared to the other treatments (p<0.05). The crude protein content of T4 (10.49%) was higher than those of T1 and T2 (p<0.05). However, there was no significant difference between T4 (10.49%) and T3 (9.63%). The effects on crude fat, crude ash, neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), and crude fiber were not significant (p>0.05). The sugar content was higher in the T2 treatment than the other treatments (p<0.05). For Ca, T3 showed significantly greater content (p<0.05). However, no significant effects were found in the contents of Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Mo, and Zn (p>0.05). Na content was higher in order of T2 > T4 > T3 > T1 (p<0.05). Total mineral contents were not significantly different among the treatments (p>0.05). Given these results, we recommend the amount of nitrogen fertilization necessary for "Geukdong 6" to be around 400 kg per ha (T3), when considering, high fresh yield, dry matter yield, number of leaves and content of crude protein.

Common 3-axis CNC milling machines are generally equipped with 2D tool radius compensation (2D-TRC), which can realize TRC function for the contours in three basic planes when flat end mills are used. The 2D-TRC function makes engineers to program according to the actual contour of a part, and avoids over-cut phenomenon. Unfortunately, the 2D-TRC is unsuitable for ball end mills (BEMs), especially in the situation of milling complex curves or surfaces. In this work, a new TRC named BEM-TRC is used for milling NURBS curve swept surfaces using BEMs based on 3-axis CNC milling machines. In BEM-TRC, the TRC of a BEM involves radial and axial compensation. The cutting point (CP), which is the tangent point between a BEM and a NURBS curve, is considered as a calculation basis point. After obtaining a CP on a NURBS curve using the equi-arc length bisection interpolation method, the cutter center point of a BEM is calculated through off setting the CP the radius ( r ) distance of the BEM along its normal vector. Then the cutter location point of the BEM can be obtained according to the cutter center point. The CNC finishing program corresponding to the cutter location point can be obtained using Matlab software. The simulation based on VERICUT and machining based on a 3-axis milling machine verifies the effectiveness of the BEM-TRC. The over-cut phenomenon is avoided successfully when the BEM-TRC is used.
Design of A Second Harmonic Current Based High Step-down 48V-to-1V Resonant DC-DC Converter

This paper presents an isolated DC-DC converter topology with a single ground-switch resonant inverter and a current driven rectifier. The inverter circuit oscillates the input voltage at a fundamental switching frequency and a series resonant tank is used to obtain the second harmonic current for power delivery. The circuit operates features constant current (CC) output, which means that the voltage gain never depends on the switching duty cycle. After the circuit’s main waveforms are analyzed and the key parameters are optimized, a 5MHz prototype featuring 48V-to- 1V transfer and up to 10A output current is verified by simulation with discrete ferrite transformer and GaN power switches.

Purpose: To report a case of combined laparoscopic and carbon dioxide partial cystectomy and foreign body removal and to review the existing literature on the topic. Materials and Methods: A 43-year-old Asian woman was found to have an intrauterine device embedded in the bladder wall during evaluation for chronic pelvic pain and urinary tract infection. She underwent cystoscopic-laparoscopic partial cystectomy, with an uncomplicated postoperative course. She had normal renal function during the follow-up period. This case demonstrates the possibility and safety of performing cystoscopic-laparoscopic partial cystectomy for the removal of a partially implanted intravesical foreign body. Results: The patient recovered without incident and was discharged 7 days after surgery. No abnormalities were noted in the urine output or renal function in the postoperative follow-up period. No complications due to retrograde flow of carbon dioxide up the ureters or air embolism were noted during the procedure or postoperatively. Conclusions: The combination of laparoscopy and air cystoscopy has been shown to be an optimal method for retracting foreign bodies embedded in the bladder wall. Also, air cystoscopy can be used to give doctors a better view in cases in which vision is compromised under water-contrast cystoscopy.

Gardenia jasminoides Ellis, a representative for “homology of medicine and food”, can be used to produce pigment and edible oil. Here, aqueous enzymatic extraction (AEE) combined with puffing pre-treatment was explored to prepare oil from gardenia seeds. Both wet-heating puffing (WP) at 90 °C and dry-heating puffing (DP) at 1.0 MPa facilitated the release of free oil by AEE, resulting in the highest free oil yields (FOY) of 21.8% and 23.2% within 3 h, much higher than that of un-puffed group. Additionally, active crocin and geniposide were also completely released. The FOY obtained was much higher than mechanical pressing method (10.44%), and close to solvent extraction (25.45%). Microstructure analysis indicated that gardenia seeds expanded by dry-heating puffing (1.0 MPa) had a larger, rougher surface and porous structure than other groups. Overall, AEE coupled with puffing pre-treatment developed is an eco-friendly extraction technology with high efficiency that can be employed to oil preparation.

<P>To investigate the role of histone H3K27 demethylase UTX in embryonic stem (ES) cell differentiation, we have generated <I>UTX</I> knockout (KO) and enzyme-dead knock-in male ES cells. Deletion of the X-chromosome-encoded <I>UTX</I> gene in male ES cells markedly decreases expression of the paralogous <I>UTY</I> gene encoded by Y chromosome, but has no effect on global H3K27me3 level, <I>Hox</I> gene expression, or ES cell self-renewal. However, <I>UTX</I> KO cells show severe defects in mesoderm differentiation and induction of <I>Brachyury</I>, a transcription factor essential for mesoderm development. Surprisingly, UTX regulates mesoderm differentiation and <I>Brachyury</I> expression independent of its enzymatic activity. UTY, which lacks detectable demethylase activity, compensates for the loss of UTX in regulating <I>Brachyury</I> expression. UTX and UTY bind directly to <I>Brachyury</I> promoter and are required for Wnt/β-catenin signaling-induced <I>Brachyury</I> expression in ES cells. Interestingly, male <I>UTX</I> KO embryos express normal levels of <I>UTY</I> and survive until birth. In contrast, female <I>UTX</I> KO mice, which lack the <I>UTY</I> gene, show embryonic lethality before embryonic day 11.5. Female <I>UTX</I> KO embryos show severe defects in both <I>Brachyury</I> expression and embryonic development of mesoderm-derived posterior notochord, cardiac, and hematopoietic tissues. These results indicate that UTX controls mesoderm differentiation and <I>Brachyury</I> expression independent of H3K27 demethylase activity, and suggest that UTX and UTY are functionally redundant in ES cell differentiation and early embryonic development.</P>
A modal approach for the efficient analysis of a bionic multi-layer sound absorption structure

The interest of this article lies in the proposition of using bionic method to develop a new sound absorber and analyze the efficient of this absorber in a ski cabin. Inspired by the coupling absorption structure of the skin and feather of a typical silent flying bird — owl, a bionic coupling multi-layer structure model is developed, which is composed of a micro-silt plate, porous fibrous material and a flexible micro-perforated membrane backed with airspace. The finite element simulation method with ACTRAN is applied to calculate the acoustic performance of the multi-layer absorber, the vibration modal of the ski cabin and the sound pressure level (SPL) near the skier's ears before and after pasting the absorber at the flour carpet and seats in the cabin. As expected, the SPL near the ears was significantly reduced after adding sound-absorbing material. Among them, the model 2 and model 5 showed the best sound absorption efficiency and the SPL almost reduced 5 dB. Moreover, it was most effctive for the SPL reduction with full admittance configuration at both the carpet and the seats, and the carpet contribution seems to be predominant.

The catalytic performance of ceria oxide (CeO2) was greatly influenced by the materials' structure and surface area. In this paper, CeO2 porous nanospheres (PNS) with tunable pore and sphere sizes were synthesized by a solvothermal method using diethylene glycol as reaction media. All the as-synthesized CeO2 PNS presented good adsorption capacity for methyl orange, which makes them potential application in waste water treatment conveniently and economically. The control over the sphere and pore sizes of CeO2 PNS was achieved by regulating the volume of water bubble in the reaction system, which supplied limited room for the assembling of preformed CeO2 small nano-precursors.
