Cheng-Hsien Wu,Chen-Chih Huang,Li-Jen Wang,Yon-Cheong Wong,Chao-Jan Wang,Wan-Chak Lo,Being-Chuan Lin,Yung-Liang Wan,Chuen Hsueh 대한영상의학회 2012 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.13 No.3
Objective: Clinical presentation and physical signs may be unreliable in the diagnosis of stercoral colitis (SC). This study evaluates the value of computed tomography (CT) in distinguishing fatal from non-fatal SC. Materials and Methods: Ten patients diagnosed as SC were obtained from inter-specialist conferences. Additional 13 patients with suspected SC were identified via the Radiology Information System (RIS). These patients were divided into two groups; fatal and non-fatal SCs. Their CT images are reviewed by two board-certified radiologists blinded to the clinical data and radiographic reports. Results: SC occurred in older patients and displayed no gender predisposition. There was significant correlation between fatal SC and CT findings of dense mucosa (p = 0.017), perfusion defects (p = 0.026), ascites (p = 0.023), or abnormal gas (p = 0.033). The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of dense mucosa were 71%, 86%, and 81%, respectively. These figures were 75%, 79%, and 77% for perfusion defects; 75%, 80%, and 78% for ascites; and 50%, 93%, and 78% for abnormal gas, respectively. Each CT sign of mucosal sloughing and pericolonic abscess displayed high specificity of 100% and 93% for diagnosing fatal SC, respectively. However, this did not reach statistical significance in diagnosing fatal SC. Conclusion: CT appears to be valuable in discriminating fatal from non-fatal SC. Feasibility of utilizing oven-drying test to estimate the durability performance of concrete
How-Ji Chen,Hsien-Sheng Peng,Chao-Wei Tang 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2011 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.8 No.4
The increasing concern for reinforced concrete structure durability has been justifying in many ways in the last few decades. However, there is no perfect durability test method till now. In this research an alternative method, which is based on the cumulative moisture loss percent of the concrete specimens after oven-drying, was proposed to estimate the durability performance of the concrete. Two temperatures were considered for the oven-drying tests: 100°C and 200°C. Test results showed that oven-drying at 200°C was obviously an unsuitable procedure to preserve the fragile microstructure of cement-based materials. By contrast, experimental results through oven-drying at 100°C allowed estimating the moisture loss percent of cement-based materials in a more rational manner. Moreover, the magnitudes of the cumulative moisture loss percent obtained from oven-drying tests at 100°C for 48 hours have good correlations with the data of other well-known methods, namely, electrical resistance test, water permeability test, and mercury intrusion porosimetry test. This investigation established that regarding the oven-drying test as one of the tests for evaluating the potential durability of concrete is considerably practicable.
Modeling and analysis of multi-shot injection molding of Blu-ray objective lens
Min-Wen Wang,Chao-Hsien Chen,Fatahul Arifin,Jian-Jr Lin 대한기계학회 2018 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.32 No.10
The Blu-ray objective lens is one of the electronic parts that has an important role in data storage in such a way that its production requires a high level of accuracy. One way to produce the Blu-ray objective lens is by means of a micro-injection molding technique. We investigated the effect of insert part in a multi-shot injection molding on the shrinkage after the process of injection. An aspherical shape is made for the insert part of the Blu-ray objective lens, then compared with single-shot injection molding. Zemax software was used to design the Blu-ray objective lens, while Moldex3D software was applied to analyze the flow of material into the mold during the injection process. The Taguchi method was used to determine the best parameters to obtain the minimum shrinkage values of the injection processes of both multi-shot injection and single-shot injection molding techniques. Based on the observations, it is clearly evident that the multi-shot injection molding process has a lower displacement value compared to the single-shot injection molding, namely, 0.0161 mm compared to 0.0550 mm and also the multi-shot injection can save the cooling time 5 seconds faster than single-shot injection molding. So, this can favorably improve the production of the injection process for the material in the form of the micro part.
A New Comprehensive Short-form Health Literacy Survey Tool for Patients in General
Tuyen Van Duong,Peter WuShou Chang,Shih-Hsien Yang,Ming-Chu Chen,Wei-Ting Chao,Tara Chen,Priscilla Chiao,Hsiao-Ling Huang 한국간호과학회 2017 Asian Nursing Research Vol.11 No.1
Purpose: To validate a conceptual short-form health literacy 12 items questionnaire (HL-SF12) in patient populations. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted via a convenient sample of 403 patients from three departments of a community general hospital in the northern Taiwan. Patients’ health literacy was assessed with a validated HL-SF12, derived from the full scale, the European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire (HLS-EU-Q), as well as a single-item from Chew’s Set of Brief Health Literacy Question. A reference population in Northern Taiwan (n = 928) via the HLS-EU-Q in 2013e2014 was used as a reference to compare the health literacy between that of the general public and the patients. Data was analyzed by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), internal consistency analysis, correlation analysis, and linear regression models. Results: Patients’ health literacy assessed with the HL-SF12 was shown with high internal consistency (Cronbach a = .87), and moderately correlated with the single-item from Chew's Set of Brief Health Literacy Question, with satisfactory item-scale convergent validity (item-scale correlation> .40), without floor/ceiling effect, and with satisfactory goodness of fit indices of the three-factor construct model for most of the patients. Their health literacy was significantly positively associated with female gender, higher income, and more often watching health-related TV programs. On the other hands, patients were reported with significantly higher healthcare health literacy than the general public, but not in general health literacy, disease prevention health literacy, or health promotion health literacy. Conclusion: The comprehensive HL-SF12 was a valid and easy to use tool for assessing patients’ health literacy in the hospitals to facilitate healthcare providers in enhancing patients’ health literacy and healthcare qualities.
Effects of UV Assistance on the Properties of Al-Doped ZnO Thin Films Deposited by Sol-Gel Method
Yung-Kuan Tseng,Feng-Ming Pai,Yan-Cheng Chen,Chao-Hsien Wu 대한금속·재료학회 2013 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.9 No.6
We report here the preparation of aluminum doped zinc oxide transparent conductive thin films by a UV-assisted sol-gel method. It was found that UV irradiation creates ozone, which promotes the conductivity and transparency of the films. Boro-silicate glasses are used as substrates; an PGME is used as a solvent; after spin-coating,the films are dried and radiated with UV and then heated to 400°C for decarburization and 500°C for annealing under air. The surface morphologies of the prepared films are observed by FE-SEM and AFM. It was found that the films irradiated with UV-C are smoother and denser. An XRD analysis shows that the films have a typical wurtzite crystalline structure with a c-axis orientation normal to the surface. The electric resistance values measured with a four-point probe show that the films irradiated with UV have better conductivity (at approximately 3.4 × 10−3Ω-cm) than the films that did not undergo UV irradiation. An analysis by visible light spectrometry indicates that the AZO films irradiated with UV are more transparent than the films without UV-irradiation.
