Modulation-Agnostic Spectrum Sensing based on Anomaly detection for Cognitive Radio

This work proposes a Spectrum Sensing (SS) scheme based on a Convolutional Autoencoder (CAE) for application in Cognitive Radio Networks. The channel occupancy is modeled as an anomaly detection problem. The CAE is trained only with noise-signal samples so that any random modulated signal observed in the wireless channel will be regarded as an outlier. The relationship between the detection threshold and the system performance is evaluated. Experiments demonstrate that the SS proposal can identify primary signal presence with better accuracy (high detection and low false alarm rate) than conventional Energy Detection.

Left Common Femoral to Right Common Iliac Venous Bypass Through a Retroperitoneal Exposure

The endovascular recanalization of the iliocaval system has replaced venous surgical reconstructions as the primary treatment option in severe post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS). We herein present a 51-year-old female with previous deep venous thrombosis, complicated with PTS with a large and complex circumferential calf ulcer measuring 25 cm of length in the left lower extremity. Venogram revealed a complete and extensive occlusion in the left iliofemoral system. A surgical bypass from the left common femoral vein to the right common iliac vein was performed. Patient recovered well and after 12 months postoperation her large wound is healing favorably with a clean and well granulated bed. Iliofemoral venous bypass is a feasible treatment for non-healing ulcer of lower extremity.

Gaofen-1 WFV 영상을 이용한 딥러닝 기반 대형 부유조류 분류

매년 황해와 동중국해에서는 대형 부유조류인 녹조와 갈조가 대량으로 발생하고 있다. 이러한 대형 부유조류는 연안의 양식 시설물이나 해변으로 유입되며, 제거하는데 막대한 경제적 손실을 발생시킨다. 현재는 연안으로 유입되는 대형 부유조류를 탐지하기 위해 원격탐사 방법이 활발하게 사용되고 있다. 그러나 대형 부유조류는 해양의 다양한 대상들과 중첩되는 파장이 존재하기에 이를 정확하게 탐지하는데 한계가 있다. 더욱이 녹조와 갈조는 유사한 스펙트럼 특성을 보이기 때문에 원격탐사 자료를 이용한 구분을 더욱 어렵게 만든다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 위성 영상에 딥러닝 기법을 적용하여 녹조와 갈조를 효과적으로 구분하고자 하였다. 이를 위한 네트워크를 결정하기 위해 최적의 학습 조건을 찾아 AlexNet 신경망을 전이 학습하였으며, 학습과 검증을 위해 Gaofen-1 WFV 영상을 이용하여 데이터셋을 구성하였다. 최적의 학습 조건으로 학습된 네트워크를 이용하여 실험 데이터에 대한 결과를 확인하였다. 그 결과 실험 데이터에 대한 정확도는 88.89%를 보였으며, 녹조와 갈조에 대해 각각 66.67%와 100%의 정밀도로 구분이 가능하였다. 이는 전이 학습된 AlexNet 신경망이 녹조와 갈조의 미세한 차이를 구분할 수 있는 것으로 해석된다. 본 연구를 통해 해양의 다양한 대상으로부터 녹조와 갈조를 효과적으로 분류하고 각각 구분할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. Every year, the floating macroalgae, green and golden tide, are massively detected at the Yellow Sea and East China Sea. After influx of them to the aquaculture facility or beach, it occurs enormous economic losses to remove them. Currently, remote sensing is used effectively to detect the floating macroalgae flowed into the coast. But it has difficulties to detect the floating macroalgae exactly because of the wavelength overlapped with other targets in the ocean. Also, it is difficult to distinguish between green and golden tide because they have similar spectral characteristics. Therefore, we tried to distinguish between green and golden tide applying the Deep learning method to the satellite images. To determine the network, the optimal training conditions were searched to train the AlexNet. Also, Gaofen-1 WFV images were used as a dataset to train and validate the network. Under these conditions, the network was determined after training, and used to confirm the test data. As a result, the accuracy of test data is 88.89%, and it can be possible to distinguish between green and golden tide with precision of 66.67% and 100%, respectively. It is interpreted that the AlexNet can be pick up on the subtle differences between green and golden tide. Through this study, it is expected that the green and golden tide can be effectively classified from various objects in the ocean and distinguished each other.

A new approach to measure the elasticity modulus for ceramics using the deformation energy method

This paper presents an alternative method to measure the modulus of elasticity to traction, E, for relatively limited sample sizes. We constructed a measurement system with a Force sensor (FS) and a Rotation movement sensor (RMS) to obtain a relationship between force (F) and bending (ΔL). It was possible by calculating the strain energy and the work of a constant force to establish a relationship between these quantities; the constant of proportionality in this relationship depends on E, I and L. I and L are the moment of inertia of the uniform cross-section in relation to an oriented axis and length, respectively, of the sample for bending. An expression that could achieve the value of E was deduced to study samples of Y-TZP ceramics. The advantages of this system compared to traditional systems are its low cost and practicality in determining E.

Percutaneous Endovascular Aortic Aneurysm Repair with INCRAFT Endograft Guided by CO2 Digital Subtraction Angiography in Patients with Renal Insufficiency

Iodinated contrast is the most common contrast agent used during endovascular abdominal aneurysm repair (EVAR). However, its use may worsen kidney function in patients with renal insufficiency. Previous studies have demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of carbon dioxide (CO2)-EVAR. Here, we report cases of three male patients with mild renal insufficiency (mean age: 79 years) that successfully underwent CO2-EVAR using INCRAFT ultra-low profile endografts. CO2 angiography provided the necessary vascular roadmap for safe and effective percutaneous EVAR, eliminating the need for iodinated contrast media and preventing contrastinduced nephropathy.

How dental students’ course experiences and satisfaction of their basic psychological needs influence passion for studying in Chile

Purpose: This study aimed to determine how the general course experiences of dental students in Chile and the satisfaction or frustration of their basic psychological needs influenced their passion for studying, and how passion influenced students’ study strategies. Methods: A correlational cross-sectional study was conducted at 3 Chilean dental schools between April and June 2018, in which 935 undergraduate students participated. Students responded to Spanish-language versions of 4 psychological scale tools: the Course Experience Questionnaire, the Basic Psychological Needs Satisfac¬tion and Frustration Scale, the Passion Scale, and the Revised Study Process Questionnaire. Data were analysed with bivariate correlations and structural equation modelling, controlling for age, gender, year of study, and type of university. Results: Students’ general course experiences (i.e., good teaching, clear goals and standards, appropriate assessment, and appropriate workload) positively predicted basic need satisfaction and negatively predicted need frustration. Need satisfaction positively predicted passion in students, with stronger scores for harmonious passion. Basic need frustration positively predicted obsessive passion and negatively predicted harmonious passion. Harmonious passion positively predicted deep study strategies and negatively predicted surface study strategies, while obsessive passion positively predicted both deep and surface study strategies. Conclusion: Dental students’ optimal course experiences positively influenced the satisfaction of their basic psychological needs, which favoured harmonious over obsessive passion. In turn, harmonious over obsessive passion positively influenced deep study strategies. Therefore, efforts should be made to provide course experiences that support students’ basic needs and harmonious passion for studying, both in classroom and chair-side teaching.

Common models and approaches for the clinical educator to plan effective feedback encounters

Giving constructive feedback is crucial for learners to bridge the gap between their current performance and the desired standards of competence. Giving effective feedback is a skill that can be learned, practiced, and improved. Therefore, our aim was to explore models in clinical settings and assess their transferability to different clinical feedback encounters. We identified the 6 most common and accepted feedback models, including the Feedback Sandwich, the Pendleton Rules, the One-Minute Preceptor, the SET-GO model, the R2C2 (Rapport/Reaction/Content/Coach), and the ALOBA (Agenda Led Outcome-based Analysis) model. We present a handy resource describing their structure, strengths and weaknesses, requirements for educators and learners, and suitable feedback encounters for use for each model. These feedback models represent practical frameworks for educators to adopt but also to adapt to their preferred style, combining and modifying them if necessary to suit their needs and context.

3D Free-space Antenna Radiation Pattern Reconstruction from Non-anechoic Measurements using Impulse Response Method

Several techniques for radiation pattern reconstruction to obtain free-space antenna radiation pattern are Time Reversal algorithm, Spherical Waves decomposition, FFT, matrix Pencil, Chebyshev polynomials and Hilbert Transform. These methods are a set of algorithms that when implemented avoid the use of anechoic chamber which is a standard in communication equipment certification. The objective of this paper is to investigate Impulse Response methodology for obtaining 3D free-space results from non-anechoic measurements. Two antenna configurations are studied to see effects of walls and floor specular reflections. Three standard test antennas (AUT) are simulated: Horn, Yagi and Helical. Fingerprints and pattern error show reconstruction accuracy of 3D Impulse Response over FFT method.

In 1881, the southern Philippine archipelago of Sulu was plunged into an extended contest for the succession to its sultanate. With only a tentative peace established by 1894, tensions remained volatile between the districts of Patikul, Parang, Luuk, and Maimbung on the main island of Jolo. These tensions straddled coincided with the transition of the colonial regimes from the Spanish to the US regime in 1899.
